Présentation de l'éditeur

Kastner's Chinese Nutrition Therapy is an excellent introduction to Chinese dietetics for both students and practitioners of Chinese medicine ... I whole-heartedly endorse his book.--Nigel Wiseman For millennia, the Chinese have taught that a healthy, appropriate diet is an integral part of maintaining good health and healing various disorders. Here, the author demystifies Chinese dietetics, one of the pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Joerg Kastner provides an introduction to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the energetics of foods. Emphasizing a holistic approach throughout, Chinese Nutrition Therapy provides readers with tools for integrating the principles of Chinese dietetics into their daily lives. The book includes a comprehensive classification of more than 300 readily available foods such as vegetables, grains, herbs and spices, fruit, meat, seafood, dairy products, oils and fats, and more. Numerous clinical examples and treatment suggestions artfully combine Western medical conditions with Chinese diagnostic techniques. For this second edition the section on clinical examples has been expanded by detailed chapters on the treatment of obesity and physical and / or emotional fatigue. The explanation of causes of diseases according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the different symptoms, and the lists of recommended foods and foods to avoid are supplemented by advice on the adequate acupuncture treatment. Highlights:
  • Descriptions of Chinese dietetics in practice and discussions of dietary factors, such as seasonal adaptations and differing requirements for children and seniors
  • Practical tips on how to adapt Chinese nutrition therapy to Western products and cooking methods
  • Clinical examples covering the major organ systems
  • A handy A to Z list of common foods and their healing characteristics
  • An essential reference for students and practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine, this user-friendly book will also be valued by nutritionists, dieticians, physicians, and anyone interested in living a long and healthy life. 5.0 étoiles sur 5 The ONLY Authoritative Chinese Nutrition Resource I have been able to find! 18 décembre 2005

This book is THE BEST book on chinese nutrition I have ever been able to find! The author is a Licensed Acupuncurist and a Medical Doctor from Germany and extremely detailed, thorough, and organized. There are chapters explaining Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory, General Nutrition, Common Disease Patterns and Food Treatment, Individual Food Therapeutics, Case Studies, Food Tables by Energetics, and Food Tables by Name. I'm in love with this book! It is easy to use, and very practical! A must have for your library if you like nutrition, chinese medicine, or just want to treat health problems naturally with food! Try it out! You won't regret it!

If you are a practitioner of TCM looking for a text that is theoretically sound and clinically relevant, look no further. Its modern layout, use of currently accepted terminology and comprehensiveness make this book a great leap forward for education and practice in TCM Nutrition.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good info, but way overpriced 9 janvier 2007

The layout of the book is nice and the concepts are presented clearly. This book covers the basic and covers them pretty well. For a more thorough coverage of food, nutrition, TCM, and other alternative diet therapeutic principles THE book to get is Paul Pitchford's "Healing with Whole Foods". I refer to this book more than just about any in my library and it always gives me insight and perspective.

With that being said, my main problems was not with the lack of breadth of 'Chinese Nutrition Therapy', because, frankly that is not what the book is meant to be. It is meant to purely be a treatise on TCM diet therapy. My problem with the book is its ridiculous price tag. $45 for a small, couple hundred page paperback book is unreasonable and I refuse to purchase any more overpriced, slick books. Take into consideration that 'Healing with Whole Foods' can be gotten on Amazon for about $25 and is 700 pages of solid info--both basic and more detailed.

The TCM publishers need to stop taking advantage students and charge reasonable prices for texts--especially basic, small, paperback texts. Unless required for class, skip this one and go for Pitchford's classic.

    5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Helpful Reference 17 septembre 2005

Our family has recently seen a Chinese nutritionist to help my son's acne and my daughter's digestive problems. This philosophy of eating is in juxtaposition to the typical American diet we have consumed all our lives, so this book was helpful in clarifying instructions from our nutritionist. The philosophy of Chinese medicine is well explained, even for a newcomer like me. It explains what foods are acceptable, in what combination, with what health problems. It was interesting to learn how climate changes affect the foods you should be eating. Much of the book is actually written for the use of a nutritionist, with notes on which herbs to prescribe. The book is well organized, making it easy to look up certain foods or food types. Overall, I would recommend this book.

    4.0 étoiles sur 5 I really like it and then I don't.... 11 août 2010

I'm torn - this book has some excellent information, easy to read and set up nicely/logically. However, I do have some issues with the some of the temperature natures of foods being different depending on where you look - yes strange. For instance, butter is neutral, warm in one section and cooling in another. Plus, I have issues with this just in general from book to book - shouldn't it always be the same no matter what resource you are looking?

I do have to say overall this author does impress me, but I am a bit worried about the inconsistencies.
