Description de l'ouvrage

19 octobre 2010
Chi is a michievous newborn kitten who on a leisurely stroll with her family finds herself lost and alone. Seperated from the warmth and protection of her mother, desperately attempts to reunite with her family of feral cats. When the kitten feels all hope is lost, she is found in a park by a young boy named Yohei and his mother. After taking a tumble Yohei feels just as distraught as the kitten he sees before him, and he quickly takes comfort in feeling a sense of sympathy with the cat. And before she could even know what hit her, the little kitty was picked up and soon under the protection and care of Yohei's family--the Yamada's. Every moment of their daily life is filled with something we can all cherish.

In the third volume of Chi's Sweet Home, Chi has made a new friend.  There is another cat in the neighborhood.  This cat is the very cat that the building manager considers to be a nuisance and the same one with a reward on his head.  The cat's name is Kuro; a giant of a feline.  All black and with a bit of an appetite, this cat has been known to not only sneak into people's yards but he has even been bold enough to enter some apartments searching for food.

Chi's first encounter with Kuro back in volume two was not a positive one.  When the big cat one day walked up to the Yamada's back door, Chi was startled by its size.  Kuro is so big, Chi could not even tell it is also a cat!  Chi thought it was some new beast altogether.  So when Youhei sees the new cat he immediately panics as he tries to protect his little buddy.

Now the two cats are working together to take on the big world outside of the Yamada's apartment!

Biographie de l'auteur

Konami Kanata (pen name used by Kanata Konami) was born on July 3, 1958, in Nagano, Japan.  A veteran manga artist Konami made her professional debut in 1982 with the serialized comic Petit Cat Jam-Jam for Kodansha's semenal shoujo manga magazine NakaYoshi. The daughter of an elementary school teacher, most of Konami's stories are for readers of all ages making her one of the most accessible artists in recent history.

In her nearly thirty year career, Konami has penned more than a dozen comic series, with the majority of them focusing on cats and pets. Konami is well regarded within the pet-manga community for her keen sense of cat ecology. Her ability to observe and render feline behavior has earned her respect from the Japanese manga community as a whole. While most of her properties were published for a younger female demographic, her most recent series Chi's Sweet Home is currently being published by Kodansha's Morning magazine, Japan's leading comic magazine for adult readers. Proving that quality can be found even in the cutest of sources.

Chi's Sweet Home will be Konami's first translated work.

Par Chi Yamada - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
Chi's Sweet Home tells of the wholesome adventures of a little cat named Chi, who becomes separated from her cat family one day and is adopted by a young couple with a toddler.

Chi's Sweet Home will likely not appeal to you if you dislike overly-cute stories. However, I find that the series is excellent, and even though it's seven volumes long (AND COUNTING!), it doesn't fall into a trap of repetition. Chi's always finding new and interesting ways to get herself in trouble.

In this volume, the apartment's supervisor is hot on the tail (ha-ha) of Chi and Blackie- and with the imminent threat of Chi being discovered looming, the Yamadas are forced to make a choice- to send Chi off to Hokkaido to live on a farm, or allow her to continue to live in secrecy in their no-pets apartment.

This volume is, so far, the most exciting one to come out. And by now, Vertical's pretty much smoothed out all the kinks that were present in Chi's inner monologue- it sounds much less awkward and flows more smoothly. As usual, their presentation is great- they leave the color artwork in, and provide an excellent translation. Their editing of the SFX and text present throughout the story doesn't stick out and looks quite natural. The main difference between the English and Japanese versions here is the lack of the last Omake- however, they kept Blackie's narrated preview of volume 4 in. I think we can expect to see these extras on their website soon, though, so I'm not fretting.

If you like Chi, or kittens, please check this series out- it's Vertical's best-selling manga, with every new volume spending a little well-deserved time on the NY Times Manga Bestseller list!! It's a fun read, especially for people who are brand-new to the manga scene, or little kids.

Chi is a kitten who has found a new home and this series details her adventures (oh no, the vet) in a fun, sweet way with clear artwork and humor. Great for younger anime fans (I would say 7 and up) my own 11 year old didn't find this series until recently and devoured it, and hopes there is more. Great for reluctant readers, as well.

Anyone who has owned a kitten will be surprised at just how accurately this manga captures what we imagine the kitten was thinking when it decided to shred the curtains or pee on the rug.

A fantastic manga with great art and a wonderful story. Also brilliant for children.
