Présentation de l'éditeur

Dr. de Lorgeril, the architect of the famous secondary prevention trial of the Mediterranean Diet has written a game-changing book exposing the truth about cholesterol and statins. In short, his comprehensive assessment of pharmaceutical trials is the most meticulous dissection of statin clinical trials I have ever seen. This book is a must read for anyone with clinical heart disease or anyone vulnerable to heart disease including those with positive family histories, and especially in those considering statin therapy. Highly recommended!

--- Stephen T. Sinatra, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.N., Cardiologist and co-author of The Great Cholesterol Myth

With the 2013 US and UK guidelines on the prevention of cardiovascular disease, tens of millions of healthy people over the world will find themselves prescribed with statins. These tens of millions of people will be added to the tens of millions already taking this medication for high cholesterol, previous cardiovascular issues or diabetes.

However, not one of these patients will see their health improved or their lives saved by statins, and a large number of them will fall victim to their serious side effects that are often irreversible, such as diabetes, eye and neurological disorders, even cancers.

This is what Michel de Lorgeril brilliantly demonstrates with this new book. Dr de Lorgeril is a medical doctor and scientist, internationally renowned for his research into the Mediterranean diet, omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols.

He speaks out against this collective regulatory insanity, based on biased, truncated and often falsified studies.

- The theory that cholesterol ‘blocks arteries’, that it causes heart attacks and strokes is an illusion that does not stand up to any physiological, experimental, epidemiological or clinical argument.
- Contrary to current dogma, statins do not reduce mortality, and this book provides irrefutable proof of this.
- These drugs, which can lead to diabetes and cancers, can also cause severe muscle damage, cognitive impairment and sexual dysfunction.

Doctors and patients need good quality scientific evidence in order to make informed decisions. But for decades now they have been misled by directives based on corrupt clinical studies, which have been knowingly altered to exaggerate the benefits of their molecules and to minimise their secondary effects. When their findings are carefully analyzed, nothing remains of their claims.

By far the most serious side effect, says Michel de Lorgeril, is that these prescriptions convey a false sense of security and prevent the population from adopting healthier lifestyle measures. Measures whose efficacy in the prevention of heart attacks and cardiovascular disease has been proven - and which are presented in this book.

Michel de Lorgeril, M.D., is a cardiologist, nutritionist and researcher at France’s National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a member of the European Society of Cardiology, internationally renowned for his reserch into the Mediterranean diet, omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols. In recent years, he has published numerous articles in the medical and scientific press denouncing the systematic disinformation around cholesterol and statins.

I very much liked the systematic way deLorgeril analyses the studies that have been used to get statins on the market and about the risks of elevated cholesterol levels. The exposure of the dramatic conflicts of interest between medical ethics and pharmaceutical business leaves a bitter aftertaste and confirms my suspicions about the functioning of many institutions that are supposed to work for the wellbeing of society.
It is an easy to read book for anybody who has an interest in his own health and it is fairly easy to verify the statements made in the book with the literature references given. As stated above: a must-read!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Brilliant. This is the definitive guide to statins 19 août 2014

I loved this book. The title is perfect - it's about cholesterol and statins and that's it. There is a huge audience for this book, as too many people are worried (completely unnecessarily) about cholesterol and too many people take (completely unnecessarily) statins. This book has the power, information and passion to change both.

Michel de Lorgeril explains that "as a scientist my job is to analyse and critique theories." And that's what he does - in a highly readable, engaging, entertaining and sometimes shocking way.

De Lorgeril pulls no punches as he describes "the history of the cholesterol theory" as "an uninterrupted series of lies, orchestrated by an intensive propaganda that became increasingly sophisticated with time." He details the lies, the propaganda, the spin doctors, the scam, and the crimes against humanity, trial by trial, drug by drug, company by company. You read about data having been hidden and results having been manipulated and find yourself wondering why people aren't in jail.

This succinct, but comprehensive, book covers the classics of Keys, Framingham and the French paradox, as well as the less well known Lyon, ENHANCE and the Oxford conflicts. This book is the definitive guide to statins and statin trials and it brings us right up to date with the current debate on side-effects, covering "the now well established connection between statins and new-onset diabetes".

If you've ever wondered what fish and essential fatty acids have to do with cholesterol and statins... if you'd like to know what really causes heart disease... if you can't understand why challenging the cholesterol theory triggers such extreme reactions... this book is for you. If you're on statins, or under pressure to take statins, that's tens of millions of people for starters, this book is especially for you. Too many people in this scandal are too conflicted to do the right thing. Each individual can end this outrageous chapter in medical history: read this book and learn the true statin story.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Pointing the way to true science and exposing the lies often generated by epidemiology 10 mars 2015

After all the statistical/epidemiological "studies" posted in the general news almost on a daily basis, that lead folks to believe things that aren't proven, it's a breath of fresh air to find a scientist who insists on using the scientific method. It seems like the majority of investigators, especially when it comes to nutrition, are more interested in headlines than real, believable scientific discoveries. But de Lorgeril holds their feet to the fire, pointing out where so many have fallen into the trap of relying on associations, rather than doing the hard work of science to determine causation. Those "statistical shortcuts," resulted in the awful effects that many had to contend with when taking statins for an imaginary "cholesterol problem".

This book should be required reading for all science majors.

I was prescribed Statins, this book opened my eyes! Unfortunately my doctors wouldn't even had a look at it, kind of a self-censorship that will take a long time to overcome.

This book makes me want to refuse stations altogether. Unfortunately, it seems that to understand drug research results, one has to first follow the money. I suspect this is true for all drugs, not just stations.
