Présentation de l'éditeur

Garden plants can be really tricky to grow if you choose the wrong ones. If you're not sure which plants will thrive in your garden and want to avoid expensive 'trial and error gardening' then this book is for you.

Learn the short-cut way to knowing what conditions plants like. This is the cheat’s guide to becoming a ‘Plant Whisperer’. You’ll learn lots of cunning little tricks to enable you to know which plants will suit your garden, just by looking at their leaves and other indicators.

Plants that like to grow in certain conditions often have similar characteristics. So, rather than learning lots of plants individually, it's much simpler and quicker to learn the characteristics instead. If you're looking for a gardening book on Kindle that will really help you learn about garden plants, this book is perfect to help you understand, the often overlooked, essentials.

How to Choose the Right Plants will show you:

• Simple techniques to discover your garden’s soil type (the first stage to choosing the correct plants).
• Learn what to look for when choosing plants so you get the right plant for the right place in your garden (critical for your success)
• Learn the important plant characteristics which will help you to identify the plant’s needs.
• Learn how to spot if a plant requires sun or shade just by looking at the leaves.
• Learn how to work out if your soil is acid or alkaline without needing a pH testing kit.
• Learn the short list of names that will tell you about the plant’s growth habit and flower colour.

The book is perfect for complete beginners and established gardeners who wish to improve their plant knowledge.

A very easy to read introduction to the information that plants can give us about their needs and the best place in our garden for them to live (if they are suited to our garden at all). Informative and graspable concepts put across by someone who clearly knows her stuff. Thanks very much.

Very informative but easy to read and understand. I like the idea that the author provides general guidelines to help you figure out what plants need - it's great tool to help in your gardening.

Rachel Mathews' book series is well-written and illustrated, considering the constraints of Kindle's imaging capacities. The book that focuses primarily on plants was worth it, just for the rich links, bonus materials, and video extras that she offers from her website (www.successfulgardendesign.com) linked to from within this e-book. I too am a professional landscape designer and enjoy it when I can learn just a little bit more about the never-ending task of being a "plant whisperer". This book is a good starting point for those wishing to acquire "the basics", or to improve their "design eyes", and not too much latin to scare away the novices!

She covers the basics in a charming way, and graduates to the more nuanced clue-finding aspect of "what to look for" in location of, conditions needed, and combinations with other plants.. That is what distinguishes a successful design from a mere jumble of plant material. My only caveate is that once a successful planting pattern is established; repeat it so that it looks like it was on purpose and not just a lucky fluke! She may well have addressed this in one of her other seperate titles that touch on garden surveying, decking, patio & garden design.

Her father gave her good advice on being observant of successful plant placement and design, and for Rachel it has paid off for this prolific author. I will be seeking out her other titles and expect to learn great things from them as well.

This book offers something for all levels of gardeners - from newbies to green thumbs. The conversational tone of the book makes reading it feel more like talking to an experienced friend or garden mentor. Much of Rachel's advice is simple and intuitive, and shows you how to look at plants and make decisions about their cultural requirements based on their leaves or flowers, so it works no matter which hardiness zone you garden in.
