Présentation de l'éditeur

Just in time for the holidays, take another wonderful trip to Oregon. Enjoy this sweet story about some new small-town people and learn about the lives and loves of a hot young couple. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch up on some of your favorite book people and the enchanting town of Pride.

Amber is new to Pride. As the new manager of the Golden Oar, she has big plans for helping make it one of the finest restaurants along the Oregon coast. But when she moved into town, she hadn't count on running into, and almost killing, the most gorgeous man she'd ever laid eyes on.

Luke thinks he knows what he wants out of life. That is until the woman he's been waiting for all his life takes him down. Literally. Now he's out to prove he's not just another man-boy, but someone Amber can trust and come to love.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 I can see how some would enjoy it. 13 novembre 2014

This is the first book/novella I have read by Ms. Sanders. She seems to have a good following and some people really seem to enjoy her books. I am happy for her and her readers. But I had a couple of issues with it.
First, the good. Interesting story. A hero and a heroine with unusual back stories and current lives.
Amber is new to Pride. After a job ending in a less-than-stellar manner, she is surprised and delighted that she got a job in Pride as the restaurant manager for The Golden Oar, the restaurant owned by the Jordans. Luke was raised in Pride by his grandparents after the death of his parents. After his grandfather died, Luke left MIT to take care of his grandmother.
Pride seems like a lovely small town with lots of helpful and involved neighbors.
The not so good. Well, the stories weren’t all that believable and didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Amber never comes to Pride to look at the restaurant. She never meets face to face with the chef or the chef’s sister, the person she is replacing. Amber rents a sight unseen apartment over a grocery store. Just a lot of little “who does that” reactions.
Then the way she meets Luke for terrifying and annoying, and not in a good way. The scenes that unfold from that meeting are also highly unlikely and a little disturbing. Luke’s father sends him, for no good reason given, to a school that taught sign language. While admirable, it seems a bit farfetched. A doctor takes blood from a patient and she isn’t aware and apparently the doctor nor her grandson Luke tell her the blood is going to have tests run on.
There are other moments through the book that just don’t make sense. Amber has issues with Luke’s “man-boy” persona, a persona she assigns him due to the fact that he does something with games/gaming, yet she never really asks him to explain what exactly he does.
There is a time at the beginning of Luke’s and Amber’s acquaintance where Amber is in an employee room, cleaning garbage off herself that is due to her fellow employees “initiating” her into the Golden Oar. Well, Luke walks in while she is washing her hair, bending over a sink, and she forgets she is in a bra and leggings and carries on a conversation with him. There are also some physical movements described that seem physically impossible, including a statement that said, “She thought about standing between her legs, how it would feel to have him holding her hips as he moved behind her.”
And this brings me to the editing/proofing issues. The Jordan family owns the Golden Oar. They are constantly referred to as the “Jordan’s.” The use of an apostrophe on names is an issue through the whole book. There is a Lacey Stevens in the book but at one point she is referred to as Lacey Steven’s.
Wrong words are used. For example, instead of “padding” into a room, the dog Jackie is “paddling” into a room. There is a priest and sometimes he is referred to as “father” and then “Father,” with no name after it. Ms. Sanders says one of the characters “beamed” her brother instead of “beaned.” There are lots of examples of this type of editing issue.
Now, these editing issues don’t take some people out of the story. For others, they just put the book down and walk away. I read the whole thing because I wanted to see how it ended. That is a testament to likeable characters and a story that generates interest.

I love this town and its residents. And here we welcome another that makes us fall in love with her and more of the town. This darling woman not only needs a new town but family and friends. This is a great series and can't wait for the next ones. Don't know how many books this series is going to be but as far as I am concerned it could go to 100 ! Love it that you really get to know the characters and get to visit them each and every book.

I feel as if I am part of a new family .... To me, books are a way to "escape" for a little while what is going on around you .... This series goes way beyond that ... thank you Jill !!!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A wonderful funny read that you will not want to put down 8 juillet 2014

This is the second book I have read of this author, I loved the last one and she didn’t let me down in this one. I totally loved this story Jill is an outstanding author that knows how to get right to your heart in her heartwarming, loving romances. She writes stories you have a hard time putting down, that will almost break your heart and bring tears to your eyes, in her heartwarming tales of love, lost and finding your way. I would love to live in Pride Jill brings the town to life with her wonderful characters who are funny, loving people who care. Jill puts emotion in to her writing, wonderful humor that makes you chuckle she is a very talent author.

Amber who has had hard time in the love department decided it is time to say good bye to the city life after almost being attacked and she moves to Pride where things are calmer. She will be a manager for a restaurant and live a nice peaceful life. She has a past she is trying to put behind her the last thing she needs is a new love interest after her last few who were man boys she now knows what she wants in a man that is if she was looking. Her first day in Pride she almost runs over a man on a bike, one look and she was hook that is until she found out he spends his time playing video games. She doesn’t want or need another man boy who only plays games. She spends her time fight the attraction but isn’t doing so well.

Luke is a fun loving man who loves to live life to the fullest. He has outstanding friends and a wonderful grandmother who I fell in love with. He came back to Pride when he grandfather died to help take care of his grandmother. He lost his family at a young age and she is all he has left. He gave up his life moved back but needed something to support his self. He started designing video games but he can’t get Amber to understand that. He takes one look at her and knows he wants to get to know her but she isn’t helping. Luke decides he is going to change her mind, he isn’t willing to give up on a relationship with her.

There is more to this story the just Amber and Luke there is Amber past comes back to slap her right in the face. Along with some hard times for Luke, there will be some trying times in Pride before they can even think about starting a relationship.

I loved that the author takes parts out of the series and put it in the next one in the series to mix it in, it is like coming home. You know who she is talking about and you think wow isn’t that neat. It is almost word for word from book to book. This is a standalone book and can be read without reading any of the series. Reading the series just makes it a better read. There is NOTHING I can say I didn’t like about this sweet wonderful read. It was truly and outstanding read one that I could not put down. I can’t wait to read more of the series. If you are looking for a sweet, heartwarming, funny story that has heart and soul look no farther you have found it.

I enjoy a series, with each new book you can visit an familiar place and learn more about people you have become fond of. Relationships grow and you learn more about everyone. Jill Sanders has a great place and real characters in her Pride series. I can't wait to start her others.
