Présentation de l'éditeur

Network design engineers are the backbone of the internetworking world. They are the people responsible for turning concepts into designs. They must take the customer’s requirements, budget, and plans for growth and apply design principles to turn ideas into reality. They quietly do this while claiming none of the credit.

Designing networks is one of the most challenging and rewarding careers a network engineer can choose. You will have to forge close links with vendors and your customers, and deal with installation engineers on a daily basis as they turn your designs into live networks through installation, testing, and handover phases.

The Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) is your first qualification on the road to becoming a Cisco Certified Design Expert, which holds the same, if not more, prestige as the famous Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert credential. If you choose to add hands-on qualifications such as CCNA and CCNP to your portfolio of skills, you will be in a unique position to see the network take shape, from planning and design to the final build. You will also be in very high demand by employers or as a consultant.

This manual has been written by an expert Cisco engineer who has several years of experience as an employee and as a consultant designing and troubleshooting large corporate networks at an enterprise level.
This guide will teach you everything you need to master in order to pass your Designing for Cisco Internetwork Solutions (DESGN) v2.1 (640-864 DESGN) exam, including:

- The OSI model
- Network design methodology
- The Cisco enterprise architecture model
- Enterprise LAN and data center design
- Enterprise WAN design
- IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and transition
- Designing with OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
- Network security design
- Voice and video design
- Wireless design considerations
- And much more

For ten years, the Simplified range of IT study manuals have been helping students to pass their exams and get ahead in the world of internetworking. Whether you want to make a career change into the world of IT or to progress in your current job – or perhaps enter the exciting world of consulting – this guide will help you.

Every day, people all over the world are passing their exams and getting jobs they never dreamed possible thanks to the Simplified study guides. We look forward to hearing your success story.

Daniel Gheorghe is a CCIE in Routing and Switching. He is currently preparing for his second CCIE certification (in Security) and he is developing his skills in system penetration testing. I will have to redesign our entreprise network. I thought my CCNA Security and Wireless certs. were enough but decided to buy this book anyway. i am glad i did because i thought i knew things but this book is proving me i was wrong just after understanding concepts of network design methodology in chapter 2! I am quite exited to finish the book and confident that i will be up to the task!

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good, but not enough 18 février 2013

I just took the test and passed, but only after reading through the foundation learning guide as well. This book is much easier to read than the cisco press books, BUT it does not contain all the information you need to pass the test. There were questions on the test that were not covered in this book, but were covered in the foundation learning guide. I can't go into detail because of the NDA, but needless to say this book needs a more in depth coverage of cisco specific technologies. I will say that in all fairness to the author that the CCDA exam topics listed on their site are a bit shallow and didn't give the author enough to go off of.

Now, not that this makes any difference in regard to this particular book, I hope someone from Cisco reads my next rant. Some of the CCDA exam topics contain some of the most incoherent curricula I have run across up to this point (SONA, Borderless, SAFE, etc). A lot of the terminology and theory that Cisco uses for this exam seem to have been written by marketing staff who lack thorough knowledge of the finer points of networking. Cisco used a lot of unique terminology that no one else in the industry uses, and they overlap several different solutions to address the SAME design methods. I realize that there is more than one way to skin a cat. When it comes to a right or wrong answer on an exam though, this is very problematic to a student who is trying to figure what that right answer is. It was a really confusing and frustrating path to pass the exam. I finally did and now I can move on to the real goal, the CCDP (ARCH) curriculum which is much more clearly written and not coincidentally more useful for a network professional.

This book gives you a very good perspective on design and why designers make the choices they make! My manager does design for us, and he wants me to learn, and actually, when you get to the level of designing and architecting, you are at the top my friend! This book helps me to understand design and to develop a frame of thought when designing networks for customers. I'm studying for my CCIE R&S and this book has shown me that learning CCDA level material can very well help one study for their CCIE as well! Thank you sir for this well written tomb!

This book is very interesting. Right now, I am going for my CCNP and this book has helped me to understand why architects do some of the things they do, and basically gave my a different perspective of the network, one that is from the architect's point of view. I found this book to be very useful, and it will be especially useful when I take my CCDA exam (which I think I'll be taking after my CCNP). I recommend this book to anybody who is in the Cisco world.

I got this book HONESTLY just for fun, but it turn out to be a very interesting choice, I have not finished the book but so far what I read is pretty interesting it goes deep into my concepts of CCNA, I was not expecting to be shocked, check chapter 2 network design, YOU BELIEVE you know everything, well surprise, surprise, YOU DON'T, and this book prove me wrong, I have learn some tricks I din't know and ground some others I knew with fresh ideas, I will be happy to share my thoughts once I finish the whole book.
