Everything you need in one great book! 31 juillet 2009
Par R. Wise - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I played folk and rock guitar when I was younger, but I've always wanted to play classical guitar and somehow never got around to it. I decided to try again recently, but I'm too busy to set up regular lessons right now, and finding a teacher in my area is hard. That's why I bought this book. It has everything you need to get started in classical guitar. It tells you what to look for if you're shopping for a classical guitar, how to hold the guitar correctly (which is different from holding a "normal" guitar), and how to play the proper "strokes" with your fingers. The book doesn't progress too quickly, and there's plenty of material here--from scales to arpeggios to well-known pieces from the classical repertoire. Plus, the included CD (over 70 minutes' worth of music) has every musical example demonstrated, and it sounds lovely! I especially enjoyed the pieces by Bach. I recommend this book to all guitarists: beginning, lapsed (like me), and those who already play other styles but are looking to take up classical the right way. An excellent buy!

A great contribution for the self-learner, but challenging 17 mars 2012
Par Charles Wilkes - Publié sur Amazon.com

Learning classical guitar is a challenging endeavor. Yes, this is the right book with the right exercises and techniques to teach you to become a competent beginning classical guitarist.

Importantly, it is different from other 'For Dummies" books because it is not easy or patronizing. Authors Mark Philips & John Chapell have created a course that has the integrity to challenge you to develop real skills over time. You will be proud of each chapter you complete -but you will work for it- especially if you are new to the guitar like I am.

This book is a great work for the beginning self-taught student, because it does not oversimplify this beautiful instrument. Yet, with determination it puts complex techniques and skills within your grasp.

Great Book 14 septembre 2011

I purchased this item as a gift for my husband. He is delighted with it, and says he has learned more from this book than all the others put together. Not being a musician myself, I can't speak to the information in it for myself, but he is knowledgeable, so I will take his word for it.

A Great Primer for Classical Guitar 5 août 2013
Par Big D - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
This is an EXCELLENT book if you want to learn to play classical guiatar. I will skip the first few chapters and get to the music. There are a variety of exercises to start with. They are not musical (my opinion), but they get you practicing using the various strings and fingers. What I like is the different rhythms that are incorporated in the exercises. The authors use whole, quarter, sixteenth notes, etc. which add variety and a true sense of music. I will add I have played guitar a long time, know some music theory, can read music, but I never learned to play with my fingers (either classical or fingerpicking styles). Using the fingers is a challenge after many years of using strictly a pick. The book picks up with musical pieces that are very melodic and challenging. The book covers alot of concepts such as arpaggios, barre chords, etc. It is not a book that one will master in a month. With dilligent daily practice A person can learn the rudiments of classical guitar and be prepared to move on to books that have actual songs to play. For the money the book is a steal. I give it my highest recommendation!

TONS OF INFORMATION 11 octobre 2010
Par C. Feldman - Publié sur Amazon.com

Excellent, informative and well written. All the basics are covered and most questions are answered clearly with illustrations. By the time you finish the book you'll be playing short songs and (if you work) reading music.
