Présentation de l'éditeur

From the New York Times bestselling author of Twist Me comes an addictive, thrilling tale of dark love set on post-invasion Earth…

In the near future, the Krinar rule the Earth. An advanced race from another galaxy, they are still a mystery to us—and we are completely at their mercy.

Shy and innocent, Mia Stalis is a college student in New York City who's led a normal life. Like most people, she’s never had any interactions with the invaders—until one fateful day in the park changes everything. Having caught Korum’s eye, she must now contend with a powerful, dangerously seductive Krinar who wants to possess her and will stop at nothing to make her his own.

How far would you go to regain your freedom? How much would you sacrifice to help your people? What choice will you make when you begin to fall for your enemy?

Note: This is book 1 of a completed trilogy. All three books are now available.

Biographie de l'auteur

Anna Zaires fell in love with books at the age of five, when her grandmother taught her to read. She wrote her first story shortly thereafter. Since then, she has always lived partially in a fantasy world where the only limits were those of her imagination. Currently residing in New York City, Anna is happily married to the man of her dreams and closely collaborates with him in the writing of the Krinar Chronicles.

I loved the book and bought the sequel. Is part romance, part sci-fi, and the best of it - is out of the ordinary.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A big 5 stars! 16 octobre 2012

What happens when your lover is supposed to be your enemey? Would you sacrifice your chance at happiness because of rumors and prejudice? These are just some of the hard questions that I was asking myself while reading Close Liaisons.

Mia is a naive college student that gets caught up in a dangerous situation when Korum, a visitor from another planet, takes an interest in her. From the first time they meet she feels physically drawn to him, but only five years after the Krinar race made themselves known to Earth there is still a lot of mistrust placed on the alien visitors. Korum doesn't help things with his blunt and territorial personality. His highhandedness and domineering ways had me scared yet drawn to him at the same time. I felt just as confused about my feelings for him as Mia did!

While Mia's naivety and Karum's pompous attitude towards humans had me cringing on more than one occasion I couldn't manage to put it down. The plot and steamy love scenes had me devouring the pages, and thinking about it long after I finished.

For the happily ever after seekers amongst us be aware that Close Liaisons has a satisfying, yet, happy for now, open ending. (Not open enough to feel frustrated, just enough to keep you excited for the next installment.)

My one and only complaint would have to be that during the sex scenes I felt a little put off by the very clinical terms used. Don't get me wrong, I don't want vulgar or flowery synonyms for the male and female form, but something about the very sterile terms thrown into hot (HOT, HOT!) sex scenes let me down.

With an original plot, and characters that won't leave your mind for some time to come I can't recommend Close Liaisons enough!

*You might think I'm a bit crazy, (seeing as there was no BDSM and Close Liaisons is a Sci-Fi Romance) but I can't help but see similarities between Mia/Korum and Anna/Christian from 50 Shades of Grey. A sheltered, small town college student meets a domineering slightly crazy/stalkerish, handsome man is the name of the game in this one. While Anna Zaires writing is much better (in my honest opinion) than James' I thought it might be helpful to point out the similarities to those that enjoy reading about slightly dangerous and all-consuming relationships.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fascinating read, would give it 6 stars 15 septembre 2013

When the Krinar invade earth, after some initial bloodshed, the two races settle down and co-exist peacefully. Other than changing their diet, the Krinar pretty much leave the earthlings to live their lives the way they want. Of course, resentment and fear continue to simmer among the conquered earthlings. As race, the Krinar are beautiful people, but cruel and bloodthirsty--so the Earth people believe.

Mia, a college student who wants to become a counselor, doesn't give the Krinar much thought until the day she crosses paths with Korum, one of the "Ks," and he takes an immediate and strong interest in her. Having heard the rumors, she's scared to death of him and is afraid to tell him no so she reluctantly and fearfully becomes his "charl." He pretty much takes over her life. But they have tremendous chemistry, and she discovers a great passion with him and comes to care for him.

And then she is contacted by members earth's Resistance Movement who want her to spy on Korum and report back with any information that could be useful in overthrowing the Krinar. She must then betray a man she has come to love--and who might also kill her if he discovers her duplicity--or reject and fail her people.

This novel gripped me by the throat and wouldn't let me go. The actions and ambivalent emotions of an innocent college student attempting to take on a powerful, dangerous invader felt so true to life, it was easy to identify with the heroine even though she is much younger than heroines I usually care to read about. Author Anna Zaires crafts technology and customs for the Krinar that are interesting without going into tech overload. The chemistry between the characters was believable and hot. Although there was some disconnect between the crude and clinical language used, overall, it did not detract from the sexiness of the story for me.

What I liked most about this book was the way Zaires creates a fascinating day-to-day life while leaving the reader guessing about the story outcome and the motives of the Krinar. Are the alien invaders the bad guys? Or are the Resistance fighters the bad guys? Who is telling the truth?

Loved this book. Would rate it 6 stars if I could. Close Liaison is part one of a trilogy, and I've already started reading book 2. At the time that I am writing this review, Close Liaisons is free on Amazon.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Great concept, horrible execution 27 août 2013

I got this book for free during a Kindle ebook promotion, and although I finished reading it, I am really glad that I didn't pay money for the privilege. I love the enemies-turned-lovers concept and liked the idea of humanity being peacefully ruled by superevolved aliens. Sadly, what I got instead was Fifty Shades of Grey--with aliens!--and including the same poor-quality writing. Korum is your typical domineering a** and Mia is a complete doormat. I can understand why Korum would fall in love with Mia, seeing as she gives in to his every whim (and even her rebellions turn out to be manipulated by him), but I don't know why Mia would stay with Korum unless she was physically addicted to the amazing sex and/or emotionally stuck in an abusive relationship. Even forgiving the occasional rough-sex-with-bruises as consensual, their relationship follows a classic emotional abuse pattern. And after Mia learns that Korum has really been manipulating her for half of the book, how does she react? She's oh-so-happy that Korum won't kill her and she can't bring herself to kill him, either, so they'll live happily-ever-after while she completely abandons her human life to be with him.

If you are a survivor of abuse, DO NOT TOUCH THIS BOOK.

Never have I hated a character more than the female lead in this book. I hope in the 2nd book she's killed off and is replaced with someone whom isn't a judgemental egotistical whining brat. I forced myself to read this but it was with tears of frustration and me shouting often. I should have listened to the other reviews that warned about this book being bad.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 I liked it 25 décembre 2012

There were many things I really enjoyed about the book. I loved the setup - the Krinar taking over, and the changes that they made in Earth customs, specifically how they changed our diets by changing farming and eliminating meat, eggs and milk, essentially. I enjoyed the descriptions of how the tech worked, and how there was the inevitable backlash against alien domination.

For the 'needs improvement part', there was honestly too much sex and not enough relationship building in the book. I felt like the plot was carried by misunderstandings (*no* communication between the hero and heroine), lack of guts on her part (and a big dash of stupidity), and caveman tactics on her hero's side. She was too afraid to ask questions. He never bothered to explain anything to her, or ask permission. He just took over her life.

I liked it enough to read the second one.
