Not a Flag Football Book IMO 29 mars 2006

Format: Broché Achat vérifié
The reason I bought this book was because I wanted a book that tought me things unique to flag football. There are plenty of books about coaching youth football, some of them very good. But I wanted a book that would give me the tools to SIMPLIFY football for children playing FLAG football. Most flag football leagues in the U.S. today are based on the NFL Flag Football rules and guidelines. That is, 5-on-5 with no blocking. I have played in adult flag football leagues, in a whole other part of the country, and the rules were consistent with the NFL Flag Football rules and guidelines. This book is completely about 8-on-8 football WITH BLOCKING. In fact, the book is repleat with plays and drills that are so complicated and blocking-heavy that it will not be very useful for coaching in most flag football leagues.

If you don't know the rules, are new to football, etc., this book might have value.

The book is about 150 pages. The first 50 pages is dross, unless you are an absolute newbie. If you know the game at a basic level and want depth to help your flag team win some games, look elsewhere.
Didn't Get Anything Out of This Book 4 juin 2012

I've been coaching my son's flag football for a few years now, and the older he is getting the more competitive the leagues are becoming. So, I decided to search for a good "How to" book on how to be a successful coach. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of books out there for this purpose. To complicate matters further, there are variations on number of players and what is or is not allowed. Chamness's book is too specific to be useful in any other league than the specific one it is written for. For example, Chamness includes blockers in his schemes, which doesn't make sense to me since it is flag where no contact is allowed. I do not think this to be a fault of the author, though. The author is simply writing to what he knows. However, most of what his book discusses was not pertinent to me and my league (NFL Flag). In addition, the other "generic" parts about how to manage players and how to conduct practices were pretty much common sense. I would only recommend this book if you fit the following three criteria: 1. You are starting a league from scratch; i.e. You are the town athletics director and flag football organizer 2. Your teams play with eight players on each side of the ball 3. Your league allows down linemen to block and you allow light contact after the snap. If you fit one of these criteria, this book is for you.

There were a lot of hater reviews out there about how this book was too simple. I agree it is very simple but it is designed for the first time football coach to his kids team. Perfect for me, my kids first time football coach. Great inexpensive pick up if you are in this boat. I thought it was well worth my time.
