Présentation de l'éditeur

-Over 200 useful, digestible, exercises-
-Comprehensive coverage of Picking, Legato, Rhythm and Expressive Techniques-

There’s a myth amongst many guitarists that excellent technique can only be achieved via years of practice.

Complete Technique for Modern Guitar destroys the notion that aspiring players must spend all their practice time accelerating through progressively more difficult and obscure exercises. This book focuses on only the exercises that most quickly develop the fundamental four areas of guitar technique: Picking, Legato, Playing in time, and expression.

Each exercise is accompanied by a full explanation, practice hints, and an individual audio track to make sure you are making the most of your practice time.

Only exercises which generate immediate, tangible improvements are included so there is always an immediate, musical benefit to your playing.

First of all a great thanks to the author who published this very usuful book. I find it really well organised, simple to understand, covering all the basic techniques that need to be mastered in order to be able to express your own ideas on the instrument. It also comes with all audio files for free, downloadable from the site. A great plus! I would suggest it both to beginners and intermediate players.

I am fairly new to guitar, having been playing off and on less than a year. I get frustrated and quit for a bit then pick it up again. I've tried many different books and internet videos for help over the course of a year.

I'm at a point in my playing that I can play well many open chords, barre chords, and have memorized the 1st 4 positions of the Am Pent. scale.

Sadly, I've been unable to do much with it. As I have many issues with timing. Its very poor, and I struggle with it. Constantly falling out of time, having issues if going from 1/4-1/8 - 16th notes etc.
Pick control - Pick/Hand co-ordination has also been a huge fail for me. Specifically when picking individual notes and string skipping.

Basically, when it comes to memorizing a chord shape or scale pattern, I pick it up rather quickly. Beyond that its been a tough road for me.

I picked up this book, since it claimed to target the specific areas I need the most help in. And I'm glad I did.

Ive only been at it for 3 days now, but already showing improvement in my weakest areas.Though I still need to do a lot of work, I am no doubt seeing results.

Mr. Alexander does a great job explaining what and why you are doing what you are doing and how to properly do it. And it works.

I've also learned that I'm simply trying to bite off more than I can chew by playing too quickly too soon, thus building bad technique and habits.

So, I have been doing several 15-30 minute practice sessions a day thus far, doing exactly as instructed. And a few minutes of just whatever.... but slowing it way down and implementing picking/timing lessons Ive learned so far.
There really is an improvement.

He also was kind enough to send me a PDF copy so I can print out for my music stand. Sometimes its easier than the Kindle version.

I highly recommend this book. I will be trying others as well once I get a better grip on my biggest issues, which this book covers.
Very satisfied and will buy more of Mr.Alexanders books in the future.

This guy really knows how to write an instruction book that is actually useful. After buying a few titles on Amazon and being disappointed, Joseph's books have been by far the most useful (at this time I have three of his books).

I have been an acoustic-strumming-only guitar player for years. I bought an electric a few years ago, but I have basically been playing it like an acoustic. Now I'm really trying to expand my playing. I have been really stuck in finding good exercises for someone of my level. This book gives me a ton of stuff to work on and explains very well the benefits of learning these techniques.

It would be great to have a companion book over different picking techniques. This book talks about the concept of alternate picking, but I would like to have some good exercises on picking patterns (both with a pick and finger-style).

Most instruction books like this have a CD with the physical book, but offer nothing for Kindle versions making the books worthless. However, with this book you get to download the audio from his web site. Very awesome. And if you want the book as PDF, he'll send that also.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Develop technique that will put you heads and shoulders above other players 23 avril 2014

Most guitarists are able to distinguish between very good or even great players and those players who are just AMAZING. And the primary thing that makes the difference is that amazing players possess a highly developed sense of rhythm (besides possessing all of the other qualities which makes one amazing). And of course this includes very clean and solid picking techniques and developing your ear in order to apply just the right rhythmic approach and technique to any given situation. Obviously, you do need to know the right notes to play (scales, arpeggios, licks against chord changes). These topics are covered very well in many of this author's other books. But once you feel confident that you know the fretboard relative to chord changes - then this book (or the things covered in this book) need to be your focus. This book covers in perfectly clear detail, many exercises to help you build and use technique in many different scenarios. Once you begin to master what's offered in this book, you will have achieved a level of real musicality in your playing instead of vanilla, rote executions of scales and licks - no matter how smooth and fast you are with these executions. And as you use this book, just remember to stay experimental and above all, have fun!

This book, focuses on what most of us guitarists tend to not concentrate on. That is the technique, technique and technique. I've been playing guitar for 10 years now, and at some point we all get to the point we're we feel like we're not improving, we've reached a plateau. We wonder if it's our own limitations that prevent us from being the guitarists of our dreams. This book is wonderful for any level of guitar player. Honestly, you follow these exercises, and page by page you'll see yourself improving day by day. I've only started it but it's already making me look at the way I play. If you want to be the 'perfect' play it's all about technique guys. Get on it!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 turning out to be the best 9 août 2014

I tend to see technique skills as the tools that allow me to explore music. If I am not facile on an instrument I can't discover what I can do with it musically. Technique skills are the tools and building material to free me to make what I want either from a blueprint (score/sheet music) or from what is just burning inside and trying to get out.

This Alexander book is turning out to be best of the technique building books because it actually has breadth and material successively builds on itself.

Alexander does not beat you up with excessive anything. He talks you through what he expects you'll do and accomplish, gives you an amazingly succinct baseline of exercises and finally suggests how you can expand the baseline to meet your own needs.

He reminds you all the while that it is likely that technique is a means to an end for you, and you need to keep that end in sight.

Picking exercises are great quick workout. In section 2 some of the mixed rhythm exercises are fun little head challenges at first, then great reminders to practice occasionally. Nice legato section... Other books tend to just dump a few lengthy legato exercises in somewhere. Alexander leads you thru with building exercises the same way as he does with picking and rhythm. Nice.

Note however, I found this book is not for a self learner who is just starting out. I bought the first section (picking)under a different title when I first started to play. It was too much, too fast and i stupidly got it in kindle format. Now that I've played for a few months and worked my way through a couple of Mel Bay method books my hard copy of this Alexander book Is perfect for me. I would think it would also work well for any advanced beginner or intermediate player looking to strengthen their skills.
