Revue de presse

“Ron Pevny's book Conscious Living, Conscious Aging is a unique and valuable resource for those seeking purpose, service, and continual growth in the later chapters of their lives. Its uniqueness lies in its weaving together of Sage-ing and other conscious aging practices, deep wisdom about life transitions and rites of passage, and inspiring stories from those who have chosen to engage in this inner work, all with the goal of supporting the development of the conscious elders our world urgently needs.” (Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, co-author of From Age-ing to Sage-ing)

“Ron Pevny's spot-on wisdom on the elegance of aging is spiritually relevant and deeply useful. His is an inspiring voice for living in greater mindfulness within each present moment.” (Michael Bernard Beckwith, author of Life Visioning)

“Conscious Living, Conscious Aging fills a conspicuous gap in the literature concerning positive aspects of growing older...The book is well-documented, clearly written, and insightful.” (Robert C. Atchley, PhD, author of Spirituality and Aging)

Présentation de l'éditeur

We financially plan for our retirement, but do we plan for our wellbeing? Here is an empowering guide with practical tools to help you live a passionate, fulfilling second half of life.

If you’re part of the Baby Boomer generation, then you belong to 26 percent of the US population that is retiring healthier than any generation before. And that means retirement is starting to look a whole lot different.

No longer satisfied with a quiet life of sitting on the porch or puttering around the house, retirees (or soon to be) are looking to create a passionate, active, fulfilled, and engaging later life. That’s where Ron Pevny comes in. His inspiring guide helps you do what he calls “conscious aging”—or making a reality the life of growth, purpose, service, and spiritual exploration you’ve always imagined for yourself. In addition to wisdom for navigating loss and grief, Pevny offers advice that helps you identify your goals, contribute to society, remain engaged and relevant, and spend your later years in profound personal development.

Today’s seniors are reshaping what retirement is all about. It is a whole new opportunity to engage with family, community, and the world with vigor. Don’t just grow older—age consciously.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A gem of a book for the journey into a richer, more satisfying elderhood 29 novembre 2014

Ron Pevny’s book Conscious Living, Conscious Aging is a gem of a book that I would recommend to every self-reflective person at or beyond mid-life. It will entice you on a journey of inner growth that makes the elder years richer and more satisfying and vital than most people can imagine. It could change the paradigm of aging and how elders can reclaim their traditional social roles as wise stewards and mentors. Ron brings to the book the wisdom of his great experience, both personal and from leading “Choosing Conscious Elderhood” retreats and other nature-based programs (full disclosure: I participated in one recently). Each chapter takes up one of the issues we need to confront and work through to be conscious elders––for example, healing and releasing the past through reframing our stories , healing relationships, forgiving ourselves and others, and letting go of outworn identities; facing our mortality; building legacy, and balancing serving and savoring. Each chapter ends with an illustrative “story by the fire”; one of the most compelling for me was “From Grief to Gratitude in the Death Lodge,” about a mother’s healing from her daughter’s suicide several years previously. Resources and exercises are appended. The writing is elegant and lucid, and yet at the same time it’s as though you are having a conversation with Ron around a campfire. I’m gifting this book to friends for the holidays.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Important Principles for Getting the Most Out of Life 27 janvier 2015
Par Miriam Knight - Publié sur
As this demographic bulge of boomers enters the third age, we are faced with a choice – in fact a number of choices. We can accept the " sentence" of age and decay, with all the associated degenerative illnesses, and try to make the best of our twilight years. Alternatively, we can revel in the opportunities for personal expansion and contribution to the community that come with the release from the confines of the workplace.

It would be a great pity to waste the fruits of all the wisdom we have acquired in over half a century of living, but more often than not, that is the case. In traditional societies this wisdom is highly prized and honored, but in the youth culture of the West it is too often ignored and wasted. If, as elders, we acquiesce in this and go quietly into our retirement homes and vegetate, we will be missing out on what could be one of the most exciting and fulfilling periods of our lives.

To take full advantage of these years we need to be healthy and have a positive attitude. But as the author points out, conscious aging goes a step further. Conscious aging has a spiritual dimension in which the individual connects deeply to a sense of purpose and connection. He or she is inspired to find ways to give back to the community that will nurture their spirits and enrich all those around them. That is the difference between being an elder and simply getting old. Which do you choose?

Ron Pevny condenses the wisdom he has gained from decades of experience leading rites of passage retreats into a very readable first book on the passage so many of us Baby Boomers are now facing. He focuses on the rite of passage into elderhood and his book is a narrative describing the various aspects of his weeklong nature based retreats. I recommend his book highly for anyone over fifty-five who wants more out of their later years than simply growing old.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Finding the Space to Flourish 6 février 2015

I have been an ardent advocate for what’s called the Positive Aging movement – promoting life planning that builds on our strengths, and developing community networks for sharing our strengths. Ron Pevny’s book has shown me that “Positive Aging” may be superficial until we look inward and clear the path for our authentic selves to flourish.

Yes, we’ve acquired a lot of skills and know-how during the years that it’s taken to get old. But we’ve also acquired a lot of clutter that we need to relinquish before we find the spaciousness to achieve wellness. Ron Pevny takes us through the process of life review, with steps to forgiveness, healing, and letting go. He shows us how to shine light on the shadows and how to rewrite our stories so that we can move on with a clear sense of purpose.

Conscious Living: Conscious Aging is a practical guide that integrates personal stories with varied choice of step-by-step practices and a great list of excellent resources for follow-up. Get yourself a copy, because mine is too marked up to loan out.
