Présentation de l'éditeur

Do you take me seriously? Because I don’t. I use my jokes and easygoing personality to hide the pain I’ve felt since he took his last breath. I’m adrift without my partner in crime, my best friend…my brother. I can taste the vengeance just within my grasp.

Until she barges into my life. Promising me happiness and a peace I’ve been craving for years. She is the sun to my darkness, the happy to my despair.

But she holds secrets. Just like I do. She holds hers close, where I just pray mine don’t rock the walls we’re trying to build.

Now I’m stuck at a crossroads between my desire for revenge and my craving for her and the life we could have together—and I have no idea which road I should travel.

All I know with crystal clear certainty is that the past has the power to destroy it all.

*No cliffhanger* *This book is not suitable for younger readers. There is strong language, adult situations, and some violence.*

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Sometimes you are lucky enough to discover a series that does so much more than just entertain you. You know what I’m talking about – the series that makes you feel as it touches on every emotion. Harper Sloan’s Corps Security series is one of those series.

The first book in the series, Axel, made me feel both anger and happiness as it dealt with some issues of domestic violence and forgiveness. Cage was next and had so much humor and heart in it that I found myself laughing out loud. Next up was Beck, followed by the novella Uncaged, and I think I went through two boxes of tissues for each one.

Ms. Sloan’s newest installment to this vaulted series is Cooper and while my expectations were set obviously high, I had no doubt that Cooper would not only fulfill them, but probably exceed them. And to nobody’s surprise, it more than exceeded them.
Cooper was about salvation and redemption and had so much heart on every page that I also felt cleansed of most of the sadness left over from Beck. The main focus of this book was on the healing power of love and Ms. Sloan has turned me into a true believer of the idea that love can conquer all.

We first met Asher Cooper in the last book and I have to confess I wasn’t a big fan of his. I know that he had suffered an emotional blow with the death of his brother but I didn’t like how he was dealing with the situation. In this book, the reader was given the opportunity to learn more about the Cooper brothers’ childhood and I not only began to understand Asher’s behavior but wanted to just hug him and tell him that it would be okay.

And the reason it would be okay is because of Chelcie and the “sunshine” that she brought into Asher’s life. I love all of Ms. Sloan’s heroines because they are strong, smart and sassy women who know how to fight for the people they love. I loved Asher and Chelcie together and how they helped pull each other from the sadness and guilt that was drowning them both.

With each book, Ms. Sloan’s writing just gets better and better. The storyline flows so naturally and I am absorbed into the world she has created. I end up losing myself in the pages until I have finally finished the book. When I finished Beck I felt exhausted from the emotional marathon I had been through. This time with Cooper, I felt energized and hopeful again and yet anxious as I realized that it may be awhile before the next book comes out.

Speaking of the next book . . . I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to mention by book boyfriend Maddox. For those who are fans of this series, we all know the hidden emotional depth of Maddox Locke. In Cooper, we continue to see glimpses of the pain that he is dealing with. I was already in love with Maddox before this book, and now my love has reached celestial levels. I cannot wait for Ms. Sloan to write his story so that this amazing man can have his own happy ending.

As much as I want you to read this book, I do not recommend reading it as a standalone. There is too much emotion tied into this book from the others in the series and in order to truly appreciate Asher and Chelcie’s journey you need to have read the others. Each of the others was a five star review for me as well, so you know that you will be reading some amazing books. You won’t regret it!

“This, this love that you’re questioning—this love is perfect.”

Before I completely start this review I’ll give it to you straight. I’m 100% biased. I’m Harper’s beta reader and her personal assistant BUT I will be honest with you—I went into beta reading this book believing it would be the weakest of the series.
It was just a feeling I had.
I had complete faith in Harper Sloan as an author; however, I, like I’m sure a lot of loyal fans may go into this book, wasn’t sure how I would feel about this story.
I happen to believe that I’m always right, I mean my favorite hashtag ever is #DanielleIsAlwaysRight…but…Danielle happened to be wrong this time…REALLY wrong.

“You make it impossibly hard not to hand my heart over to you.”

From the prologue of this story…it’s just THERE. You just connect on a level that I’m not sure you have even connected thus far in the series. Greg Cage is without a doubt my favorite of the men, therefore his book, Cage, has been my favorite…until now. So basically the book I felt would be the weakest? Yeah—it’s without a doubt the most powerful, possibly even my new favorite.

“I don’t know how to move on. I don’t know how to escape this…this darkness.”

I’m not going to sit here and tell you this happens and that happens. I’m going to tell you that Asher Cooper and Chelcie Avery are BOTH a mix of each and every character in the series that you have fallen in love with, and watching THEM fall in love with EACH OTHER? It’s beautiful. It’s incredible. It’s inspiring.

”You’re my everything, Sunshine. You’ve made me whole again.”

It makes you take a step back and feel every moment.
The past.
The present.
The future and what it could hold.

“I’ve been stuck in this fog, this darkness that’s held me captive…This black hole of grief that I couldn’t escape. But then you came into my life…you were my light when there was none to be found.”

Don't get me wrong, I love the series. However, how is it that everyone one of the heros in these books act like a caveman. And what's with all of them saying "mine". And all the overdone pet names. I really like the books but it is so repetitive in every book. Each story is different, nothing's the same except how each and every hero/heroine dynamic. The men should grab the women by the hair and drag them to their caves.

Serious book hangover. Harper has done it again with this amazing book. I must say I did miss not having more interactions between the rest of the CS boys and girls but the story was great. Can't wait for Locke.

Harper blessed us this week by releasing the prologue to this story, and boy oh boy did I know she was going to put us though the ringer!! I thought for sure no one could be better then Cage but I was wrong. From the very beginning I was sucked into the story of Asher and Coop. Hearing Asher's story of how and why he felt the way he did for Coop was AMAZING! I went through every emotion possible with this story. I laughed, cried, and also wanted to through my Kindle into a wall. Man, I went through a lot of tissues. Harper takes us on one heck of a journey with this book. By far this is the best Corps Security book yet. Harper, I felt every single emotion all the characters were feeling from your amazing heartfelt story. I couldn't put this book down. I didn't want to lose, or even a second, the connection I felt to this story.
