A truly soulful book 7 février 2005
Par bookaholic - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
`A Wildwitch seeks to honour the land on which they live, experiencing life as an endless circling dance or enchantment and devotion, finding magic in the mundane and inspiration in the midst of modern existence.' Poppy Palin

What a delightful new exploration in the midst of so many `how to be a witch' books that have hit the market. This is a natural and honest exploration of the inner realms. Pomp and ceremony has been excluded (although a little guidance on creating magical ceremony is offered) as has any allusion to hierarchical mystery, and yet all the delight of natural magic and mystery is retained. Here is a book for beginners and the more experienced alike. Although written for adults, this is a book that you would be thrilled (rather than nervous or dubious about) for your children to read on their spiritual path.

Craft of the Wild Witch manages to be both grounded and spiritual, being rooted in the poetry of the Earth. Thankfully, for the more eclectic witches among us, there are no Wiccan structures to adhere to. Moon phases, divination and the Sabbats are covered but even these more exhausted subjects are given a fresh slant with Poppy's poetic descriptions. Guidance on spellworking is offered in a way that I found to be more in tune with natural laws and less prescriptive than many other texts. The author takes us on trance journeys (guided visualisations) as well as detailing some of the various reasons for feeling the need to do this. The journeys provided take us to meet Green Jack, Moon Mother, our Spirit Guides, our Otherworld Self and to connect with the strength of trees. Thus, the necessary is covered as well as some more original journeys that I haven't seen elsewhere. There is also a valuable section on safe journeying and checking the validity of guides before welcoming them wholeheartedly into your life.

A review at the end of each chapter is a very helpful feature of this book, although I would have liked to see an index too.

This is a truly soulful book with a holistic un-adorned approach to witchcraft. It is delicately subjective in the way that Ms Palin blends ethos and practice with personal experience. Craft of the Wild Witch is not only a `how to' book but a `how to feel' book as the author's genuine connection to spirit and nature is thoroughly infectious!

Why only 4 stars? Because I'm a perfectionist! Also, Poppy Palin's books just keep getting better so I have to leave room for her next work...!

Craft of The Wild Witch: Green Spirituality & Natural Enchantment 5 juin 2007

Poppy Palin has written a very inspired, sensitive and intelligent book about the real meaning of living a life as a wild witch, at the most essential level. The book is so well written and well organized, and completely brought me back to my green spirituality, which in my everyday "overload" of work, media, telephone, etc. I had lost touch with without even realizing it. Poppy Palin brought me back. Since reading her book I have changed my priorities completely. Poppy Palin is very articulate, and has a beautiful very readable writing style. The only thing missing from this book was Poppy's delightful artwork, which would have been such a treat, but which were not included as she wanted to focus on the importance of the text. Poppy is a wonderful artist, however, and it is worth seeing her website for inspiration. I look forward to reading her other books !!

This was and is indeed a powerful book it will challange you to sort out your inner demons of thought, clarity, and self created illusions, of who the gods truly are and why we believe what we believe.

the natural elements of teaching in this book are great for a new student first stepping onto this path, and it will give you a solid foundation with which to build a very natural earth based practice.

you will enjoy it as i did.

Refreshing approach to a very Personal Journey 11 septembre 2008

I have wanted to purchase a book of this nature for quite some time but hesitated because of the almost corney way in which these things were presented. This is an honest book about a very personal journey. It makes suggestions, but does not demand anything. I have every intention of blending my Catholic/Christian beliefs with my desire to be closer to nature and the universe in this unique way. I don't believe that the worshipping of a God who has a traditional male image (for those of us who can't help but put a face to it) conflicts with my belief that the creator has no sex, and that a male (God) and female(Goddess) image is of our own making. My God/Creator is ageless, sexless and loves me for who I am, not the way in which I worship. My God can be honored in many ways, with many different faces, even if that face is a tree, a bird or a mountain stream. I have found that this book presents the Craft of the Wildwitch in a way that I can integrate these beliefs into my everyday life, a way of life that suits me, as a solitary practitioner. Do not hesitate if you have been looking for some guidance, but know this is not a spellbook, it is a guide for self exploration. If you always felt a connection to the sacred and have found the sacred in the air and earth and sky, then this book is for you.

good at explaining... 16 août 2007

I got this book as a gift, although if I didn't, I probably would've bought it on my own eventually. I like Palin's writing style; her descriptions are beautiful and wordy, and she explains (very often) what it means to be a Wild Witch and what it means to live your life as one. She gives tips on protection magic and a lot of basics of green witchery. There aren't many exercises and rituals in the book, which is what I found to be the most disappointing thing about it.

If you're interested in green witchery, this is a good book to get, but should be supplemented with others.
