Grade 2-5?Teachers, parents, and scout leaders are sure to snap up this attractive resource, which is not only for Valentine's Day but adaptable to other times of the year as well. Each of 20 simple projects appears on a two-page spread; materials are pictured and named in a sidebar on the left-hand side. Step-by-step directions include full-color illustrations of the process and of the completed item. Materials are readily available, e.g., wallpaper scraps, old playing cards, newspaper, and paper-towel tubes. The activities are presented in a readable format so that youngsters will be able to do them with minimal adult supervision. Carol Barkin and Elizabeth James's Happy Valentine's Day (Lothrop, 1988) includes recipes and games as well as crafts, as does Judith Corwin's Valentine Fun (Messner, 1983). Robyn Supraner's Valentine's Day (Troll, 1981) features paper and clay crafts.?Beth Irish, Orange Public Library, CA
