5.0 étoiles sur 5 Beyond the Basics, But Not So Far Beyond as to be Intimidating 15 avril 2014

How to Crochet, Vol. II is an illustrated volume to take the beginning crocheter to the next step. Beatrice Crimbleton, the creator of this book, is clearly a crochet expert and manages to make what may be complicated stitches, to the beginner, learnable. I was familiar with the stitches she presents, including shell, bobble, lace, mesh, star, hairpin, and my favorite, the crocodile stitch. But Crimbleton goes to the next step and offers patterns, each one using one of the stitches just presented.

Illustrations are in color, and that makes the book so much more enjoyable than those printed in only black and white.

Crimbleton rounds out her books with charities in need of blankets, scarves, and other crocheted items. It’s one answer to the question, “what should I make next?” and make someone’s life just a little more comfortable.

If you want to extend your crochet skills, give this inexpensive Kindle book a look. It will be worth your while.

The ever fussy Mrs. Spudman actually likes this book quite a bit. Intermediate Guide offers the reader good, clear instructions accompanied by small color photographs, examples, practice patterns, and full patterns for things like blankets and sweaters. In the book the author discusses specialty stitches and materials for the crocheter.

According to Mrs. Spudman How to Crochet offers better detail than many of her other crochet books.
At the end is a listing of charities to which a knitter may donate finished projects.

Like the author, I was taught crochet as a child, along with knitting, embroidery etc. My mother believed the adage that 'Idle hands were the devil's workshop! But as I grew older I found that crocheting was my favorite . Beatrice Crimbleton's first book was a reinforcement of my early lessons. I was always a little timid about going into the more complicated stitches. Reading this expertly executed manual with its very clear instructions and colorful pictures has given me the courage to venture further into the beautiful world of crochet. My only problem is which one to try first. They all look so interesting. I cannot wait to see the expression on the faces of the people I gift with my creations as these will be quite different from what I usually crochet. Thank you for such a wonderful is much appreciated.

I received this free of charge from the author in exchange for an unbiased and honest review-and that is just what this is. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in crochet.

Absolutely cute squares! Not your ordinary granny squares. The pictures are clean and the instructions well written. The designs are very nice. Even my seventeen year old fell in love and ordered a blanket. She's even willing to help! These are great for all levels of experience. Easy but fun and engaging patterns. A perfect add to your pattern stash and to do list!

I didn’t read Vol I, so I don’t know if this is a smooth continuation to Vol II. The disclaimer mentions that in this guide the reader builds upon techniques used in How to Crochet: Vol I, with advanced patterns. The first chapter talks about the abbreviations the author will use, CH = chain DS = double stitch etc, so it appears the novice can grasp the language while feeling very familiar to the intermediate crotchet.
I have brought cowl scarves from my co-workers and a woman on Etsy. Before reading this book I had no desire to try a pattern for myself, but now I am really thinking of buying a pattern and starting small, certainly not with a cowl scarf...(Smile) So if you can make scarves reach out to me. I LOVE them!!!
Chapter one starts the reader with the different stitches, while the next chapter moves into material. Material you might ask? Well if you are like me I thought yarn was yarn, but there is a difference and Crimbleton describes these differences along with letting the reader know which to use for what project. For example linen hemp and flax is typically used for jewelry and baskets, while Alpaca is soft and used in clothing. (seems interesting right?)
The bonus chapter is where you get your bang; I once heard it said that “service is the rent you pay for your space on earth. Crimbleton shares how this hobby can bless others. So whether you are just beginning or have some of the basic stitches and your own hook I’m sure you will find something of value in this volume.
