Scott James puts himself out there for our benefit. He right up front de-bunks some of the current popular fad diets and nutrition concepts and `routine `gym workouts, and feels that if we stick to `clean diets' (no preservatives, refined sugars, trans fats or have undergone any processing) we'll eventually get bored, craving some of those forbidden fruits we all desire. Now he is as up front about exercise and physical fitness as he is about nutrition and Flexible dieting. He is a reliable, informed and very entertaining and supportive coach. And now he introduces us to CrossFit functional training - and continues to gain our respect and admiration by simplifying thoughts on excellent care of our health and body.

In his introductory explanation for this book he states, `CrossFit is a new functional training philosophy that focuses on improving the cardiovascular fitness as well as muscular endurance of all individuals in a hardcore, yet fun filled and encouraging manner through different daily workouts referred to as WODs (workout of the day). CrossFit is based upon 10 physical traits. The end goal of CrossFit is to equip an individual with a body that is capable of performing any and every physically demanding task presented to them. CrossFit style training is the polar opposite to the regular training performed in a gym, a typical CrossFit workout will not utilise any treadmills or lateral pull-down machines, although I will go further in to depth of these workouts later in the book.' Feel safe and in good hands? Then read on because the whole concept he shares is fascinating and educational.

James goes into the history of CrossFit, the man responsible for its development, the benefits of embracing this `sport', and then proceeds to explain the various forms of CrossFit training. He outlines the tools (basically your body!) needed to participate and then rolls out the various training suggestions - interestingly given a person's name as a designator! And after the workouts he offers even more information on nutrition than in his previous two excellent books. `Eat Like a Predator, Not Like Prey' `In order to build lean muscle, recover and have sufficient energy levels it is crucial that your diet is in check. The Paleo diet is the diet of choice amongst CrossFit enthusiasts.'

At book's end Scott James sums it up: CrossFit allows individuals of all ages to partake in a community based, fun and competitive workout regime that is constantly changing, CrossFit will force your body to adapt to any challenge you are faced with and is ideal for not only building lean muscle and explosive power - but also an unbreakable mindset to match. No longer do you need to spend countless hours on the treadmill staring at a wall; no longer do you need to perform the same monotonous workout routine week after week. I found this book extremely useful as I build my workout routine. I would strongly recommend this book for anybody looking to create a regular schedule for getting fit.

Nothing new in here. Just some basic info and wods to work with. It wasn't life changing..Its good if you don't know whats involved in crossfit.

This does cover the basics of Crossfit but the WOD's are very challenging. I would look elsewhere to find better WODs.

Some typos, but certainly is a good list of WODs! Fun to look through while planning and aspiring. Totally worth $4.
