Présentation de l'éditeur

Mickey Campbell had already lost one legal battle with his first invention. Surely this time it would be different. Joining forces with Theo Spencer, his long-time friend and a genius in neural science, they would create a device that would allow humans to access information from computers and send it directly into the brain, using a mental interface.

But when headstrong Theo starts experimenting with an altered interface using his own body, the device starts serving a different purpose. Should Mickey continue helping his friend, or should he put his foot down and stop everything?

Together, and with help from beautiful assistant Felicia Jones, they would explore how far the technology could go while testing the bonds of their friendship. And the world would be impacted by the ramifications of their choices.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Finally! Someone Writes About How They Got There... 16 juin 2014

I always wondered how the brain to computer interface in all the futuristic books was developed. When the authors write stories, the awesome computer speaks in your head, shows your brain pictures, and you can control everything with a thought. Must be nice, but some poor dude had to develop and then test a rudimentary version. That had to hurt. Ouch!

This book is about those two guys, and it is sci-fi at its best. They form a startup for their brain to computer interface, which is big clunky hardware, including a chair. It doesn't stay that way. One wouldn't think this would be an action novel, but it develops into one. The discoveries, the risks, the rewards, the knowledge - it overwhelms one partner, that's when the creativity really rolls.

My curiosity is no longer running rampant. Lysle Shields provided an exciting and highly satisfying answer to my question: How did they get computers completely controlled by the human brain?
Awesome job Mr. Shields!

Love it! This book probes the current and future possibilities of symbiosis between humans and computers. Suspenseful at the end, the slower first few chapters allow you to immerse yourself in the characters lives and learn their quirks and motivations. I truly feel this is a great first book by this author and look forward to reading more!

The story was slow to build, while I appreciate it when the author takes time for character development, in this case I felt like it was taking too long for the book to get interesting. Minor contextual errors where the author's word processor changed the spelling of a word to something else are minor by itself but when it happened every few pages it got very frustrating.

I came close to giving up on this book while waiting for it to "get good" but I was rewarded with a great ending that almost made the initial suffering worth it.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an unbiased review.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good sci-fi. 3 mai 2014

The book starts a little slow as it establishes the characters, but then it picks up. Then it really picks up! From the start and until the end, I was entertained. That does not happen often for me. I am very quick to abandon a book.

There is:
- No sappy love story.
- No political statements.
- No bad attempts at humor

What this book does have:
- Sci-Fi
- Good delivery

If you want a sci-fi book that does not try to be anything other than a good sci-fi book, "Crossing the Asymptote" will serve you well.

It was not clear from the description, but this book is kid-safe. I do not remember reading any curse words nor any "bad" situations that I would not want a kid to read about.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fantastic Read! 2 mai 2014

No amount of analysis can convey the quality of "Crossing the Asymptote”. It is a truly gripping story, told in a lean, hard, athletic narrative prose that puts more literary English to shame. Mr. Shields III knows how not only to make words be specific but how to arrange a collection of words which shall betray a great deal more than is to be found in the individual parts. It is magnificent writing, filled with that organic action which gives a compelling picture of character. This novel is unquestionably one of the events of an unusually rich year in literature.
