Maybe a bit much for my non-snow country use, but I really like it. 10 juillet 2015

I got the green Leanne Pelosi model in the 18L.

My needs for it were: kinda cute but not too youthful, not too big (carries more than a book), carry a 13" laptop and possibly carry a skateboard. After going through thousands of others on Amazon and several other online sites and even hitting a few skate/surf and sport stores in the area with these slightly broad filters, I narrowed it down to this one.

Check out the Dakine site for a few more pictures. These pictures don't really tell you what the backpack has to offer.

I thought 18L would be too small after my in person research, but I found out it is the perfect size for me. I also checked the return policy, just in case.

For me, it's a bit of an overkill, I do not currently snowboard or ski. I had read that someone said it was too strappy for their needs so they cut a few off and I was like oh come on, how can it be too strappy. Then I got the backpack. She was so right. There ARE quite a few straps on this thing and they are all over the place. Straps are tucked away in the corner pockets for the ski carrying, those are straps that you can't see in the picture. Then the straps you can see are longer than expected. I attached the hangtag picture so you could have some idea of what is where.

I was deciding between a basic black one that holds skateboards, another Dakine one with a cute Sherwood print or something on it and this one. This one was a little more $ than the others. It was amazingly $30 less here than on other sites.

Why I chose this one...
-The cute embroidery of the moose and tree on the side and the arm strap.
-Did you see the interior lining? It is a forest looking print. This lining is a plastic feeling material not dissimilar to a light rain jacket.
-One of the fixed straps on the side has flowers all over it.
-It also has a little whistle on the cross strap. Can't hurt to have a whistle!
Those little stupid details got me. All I basically needed was something to hold the laptop and a few notebooks anyways. My laptop just fits. See the picture attached. The green and brown overall look make it look more serious but the cute hints here and there make me happy.

There is no area to put a water bottle, but some water bottles have a clip on them, so that will work with one of the straps on the side. It is supposed to support a hydration system. All I can see are two elastic things on the arm strap that could keep a tube near you. I just found the place where the tube leaves the backpack, it's on the very top of the backpack where there is a tag that says Dakine on one side and H2O on the other side. There is a moderately sized hole right there closed with velcro that goes into the main compartment of the backpack.
I can imagine if it were going to rain I could hold an umbrella on the side area somehow.
There are places for pens and all, and you can put your phone in the top pouch as it has a soft lining. I attached a picture of that.
As for all of the ski straps and such, well, maybe I will need to carry a thin yoga mat with this, that might work with the ski straps.
As for the snowboard strap, I attempted to put my skateboard on there, but the grip tape threatened to shred the nice green fabric as it sat on it.
There is a picture with both snowboard straps visible, the bottom one can go through a opening in the front of the backpack to be less obvious when not in use.
So, much more than just a backpack, many things here I cannot even imagine using at this time in my life, but it is obvious there was a lot of thought and detail that went into this backpack. Maybe one day I can appreciate all of it.

Solid backpack for the outdoor person 21 mars 2014

While it's heavily advertised as a snowboarder's/snow skier's backpack, I've only used it for hiking and it does the job very well. Once you secure it (appropriately) to your body, you hardly know it's there (the best description I can think of is that it becomes 'part of your body'). I also noticed the backpack is very durable and well made, I had to drag it on rocks/gravel a few times (don't ask why) and it held up, no rips of any kind (did get dirty and dusty, but that's no big deal). It's also easy to install a hydration system (I used the Platypus Big-Zip 3 liter bag, and I just bought a second one for those long, ten-mile hikes I plan to do during the summer).

And oh yeah, the pack is stylish too... good eye-candy as far as backpacks are concerned. If you've never owned a true outdoor backpack, this is a good place to start. You can even use it around town, to school, to box socials, and square dancing (a pair of cowboy boots fits easily in there - if you don't want to wear the boots on your way to the square-dancing).

Happy Trails

This bag fits perfect in all aspects, it has plenity of space for all equipment, food and also for an extra pair of boots,
the diagonal ski carry is a bit unstable but nothing out of normal. very lightweight, and it can also fits perfect in the city.

So far, So Great 1 octobre 2015

I've only had this backpack for a short amount of time, but it's treated me well so far.
As of now, 5 stars for sure:
Before I list the pros and cons, my intended use for this is for daily use going to and from class and for a nice daypack whenever I need it.
I will probably use it come winter time when it is time to snowboard, however, I do not intend on using the snowboard or ski straps anytime soon.
The following pros and cons are personal opinions that may fit your personal likes or they may not, just trying to give you guys some heads up before purchasing.

-Quality build, doesn't feel cheaply made and haven't found any place where they tried to cut corners yet. Other than the straps for skis and snowboards, this interior is very simplistic yet functional.
-Great Size, not too big, not to small
-Deceivingly roomy main compartment
-Laptop sleeve fits my 13.3" Macbook pro perfectly (Also doubles as a bladder pocket as well, haven't tried it yet)
-The snowboard straps have pockets to tuck them away in when they're not being used
-Feels comfortable on my back
-Shoulder straps are comfortable (a bit bigger than I like, but that's definitely me being overly picky)
-Hip strap isn't oversized or too small
-Has a relatively flat look when you put stuff in it. That may or may not be a pro depending on your individual opinion but I don't personally like when the backpack looks like your a freshman on the first day of school when you have stuff in it.

-Front compartment, while it provides ample space to put stuff in, the organizing pockets are not tall enough for a pen to fit all the way in. Just looks a little weird.
-Limited pockets, this definitely extremely subjective, but I wish there was a pocket designed for your phone or wallet or some type of zipper pocket either on the outside or in the front pocket. (take this with a grain of salt)
-My biggest issue, though I knew this prior to buying it, there's not water bottle pocket. I bought this mainly for daily use despite it being for snowboarding and skiing, so a pocket would have been nice but it obviously would have gotten in the way of ski straps so I understand why it's not there.

Overall opinion:
I recommend this backpack 100%. I bought first and foremost because I love the color scheme. The navy blue and "dark khaki" color looks great. Not totally sure how I feel about the black design that it hard to see from the product picture unless you zoom in but it's nothing too obnoxious. It's made with quality and I've had a Dakine before when I was younger and loved that as well. For it's intended use, I think Dakine did a really good job with this one. For daily use, it obviously missing a couple things I would like, like a water bottle pocket or a more complex front pocket, but it's not anything that would force me to take a star away, plus, its not intended for general use so why complain when I knew exactly what I was buying.

Great backpack 10 avril 2014

I use this in high school and it is great. It is very comfortable, looks fantastic, and is a great size. It fits snug to your back so when there are books and binders in it it still seems very flat and small. I would recommend this product to students and snowboarders/skiers alike.
