Présentation de l'éditeur

Surrogate mother Shelby McDougall just fell for the biggest con of all—a scam that risks her life and the lives of her unborn twins.
Twenty-three year-old Shelby McDougall is facing a mountain of student debt and a memory she’d just as soon forget. A Rolling Stone ad for a surrogate mother offers her a way to erase the loans and right her karmic place in the cosmos. Within a month, she's signed a contract, relocated to Santa Cruz, California, and started fertility treatments.
But intended parents Jackson and Diane Entwistle have their own secret agenda—one that has nothing to do with diapers and lullabies. With her due date looming, and the clues piling up, Shelby must save herself and her twins. As she uses her wits to survive, Shelby learns the real meaning of the word “family.”

Par The Kindle Book Review - Publié sur Amazon.com

Shelby McDougall is a 24 year old with tremendous debt struggling to continue her education and even though she has family, she does not have much of a support system. She sees an ad in Rolling Stone for a surrogate and thinks that this would be perfect for her in so many ways...she'll get to stay in school, pay-off some of her mounting debt while helping a couple realize their dream of becoming parents, not to mention trying to balance the books with a past transgression she committed. To Shelby it looks like a win/win situation for everyone involved. For Shelby this would be one of the most selfless acts she could do for a stranger although her parents and her brother Dexter are against her decision, especially her self-centered, narcissistic, selfish sister-in-law Jessica. Jessica forces Dexter to kick her out of their home, with the justification being that her pregnancy is unhealthy for their daughter Ashley; which to all intents and purposes leaves her homeless.

Jackson and Diane, parents to her unborn twins, give her place to live until the babies are born. They offer to let her live in a cottage on their vast property. And here is where things start to become strange...things are just not adding up. Shelby starts seeing them as different, different than the happy parents to be that they should be. It could be her imagination she thinks since she feels isolated and because while checking her favorite news websites the headlines scream out `baby ring busted' in New York. This hits just a little too close to home for Shelby's liking. Given that her brother has never agreed with her decision to become a surrogate, he starts feeding her imagination that things really are not what they seem to the point that even she starts to see things his way and this is where the suspense intensifies.

This is not only one great suspense novel that has it all-mystery, action, adventure, and romance, but it also gets you to thinking about surrogacy with all the possible pros and cons. Is surrogacy a loving, caring, noble, self-sacrificing act...a precious gift to give or is it all about the self-interest, selfishness, and greediness of making money off of and taking advantage of the innocents? Nancy W. Wood has written one great book that offers something for everyone's taste. "Due Date" is well written, well researched, and very entertaining. Even though this is a work of fiction it could very well have been ripped from the headlines. If you enjoy your books with a little more meat on their bones then "Due Date" is the book for you. Ms. Wood is a talented writer that you can expect more great books from in the future.

Suspenseful and beautifully written, Due Date is a page turner!

Ms. Wood has created An Original in a well-loved genre, complete with a believable female protagonist and many twisted and surprising plot turns. Her descriptions of the natural settings are exquisite and one of my favorite things about the book. She also expertly immerses us into a local's view of the quirky and loveable town called Santa Cruz. So much fun! A great summer read. Quit your day job Nancy---Can't wait for your next book!

The novel was good. It grabbed my attention and held it until the very end. However, that didn't happen until a good ways into the book. I felt there was too much happening in the beginning to really grasp my undivided attention. But, when the story really gets going, I didn't want to stop reading! I read half of the book in one day just because I had to know the end. And now, I can't wait for the sequel!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Exciting new author, couldn't put it down! 22 août 2012

As a mystery lover, it was exciting to find a fresh new author who has written a gripping, suspenseful, and contemporary novel! The lead character, Shelby McDougall, is a strong, resourceful, and compassionate woman who wants to help a childless couple create a family - even as she struggles to explain to her own family why she plans to accept payment as a surrogate and to give up the twins she's carrying. The story begins with excitement and book-gripping suspense, continuing to build and expand from there. With rich characterizations, twists, and unexpected plot turns, the author pulls us in to Shelby's world as she solves a series of mysteries, wrestles with the meaning of family, and courageously rescues herself and another pregnant woman from captivity. And then, just when it seems that Shelby's life is settling down, a new threat arises and Shelby boldly takes action to save a stolen child. Overall, a very exciting and refreshing read!

Picking up this book the first time, I expected to read for about an hour and come back to it later that night. I was wrong! As the plot kept twisting and the characters kept getting more intriguing, I found myself sitting on the couch engrossed in the story for the entire afternoon and evening! The main character Shelby is relatable, strong, and funny, the perfect combination to make an incredibly interesting and realistic heroine. I strongly recommend this book, and eagerly await the second installment. Thank you Nancy!
