5.0 étoiles sur 5 A thrilling sci-fi adventure a la XCOM 6 juillet 2013

I first discovered this author thanks to Xenonauts, an upcoming strategy Pc game inspired by XCOM. Lee Stephen was approached by Xenonauts creator to write a novella exploring Xenonaut's world and background. Intrigued by this author I read some extracts from his books and I was not let down in the least. So one year ago I bought Epic 1 to 4. It was a fantastic read through and through. Although I read some people criticising the military hierarchy and structure in this series because it was not akin to the one they served with, we should remenber that it is set in the future and that it is fiction. So have fun people, try this on kindle first and if you like it I recommend you buy all four paperback.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Terrific Book - Can't wait for the next one. 15 mars 2007
Par John D. Olmstead - Publié sur Amazon.com
I just finished reading this and I haven't enjoyed a book this much in awhile. I'm not much of an alien or sci-fi enthusiast, so I was a little hesitant in giving this a shot, but I was beyond pleasantly surprised.

The story is solid, it keeps the reader engaged and interested and never veers off far enough to loose your interest. The character depth is outstanding, being an avid King reader I have come to be very picky about connecting with the characters in a story. Lee Stephen does an excellent job at connecting the reader to each of the characters, you don't just read about them you feel for them, experience their ups and downs, and hope for their success.

The story itself is very believable, enough detail is given to make the story seem authentic without overselling it. The world he creates begins to take on a life of its own, with a bit of its history revealed but also with questions left unanswered. The unanswered questions leave you wanting more, you start wanting to understand and find the same answers the characters are searching for. There were times I found myself trying to understand something only to find on the next page a character asking the very same questions, as if we were in this world together. It is a world that I already desire to get back to and see what is going on and it is my hope that Mr. Stephen gains enough backing and support to continue this series.

If you haven't picked this up I highly recommend it. It is outside of my normal genre yet I found it terrific, hopefully all those who read it will too.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 PROFANITY NOT REQUIRED!! 5 janvier 2008
Par Kristina M. Orlando - Publié sur Amazon.com
I recently read Dawn of Destiny by Lee Stephen, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was unaware of this author and his works until one of my students `introduced' me to the series. [I teach gifted English Language Arts at a middle school in Paradis, LA...] My student said that he thought it was great, and he thought I would enjoy reading it as well. Well, I did.

I found it quite refreshing that the book dealt with serious, hard subject matter in a manner that is appropriate for anyone to read. The author leads the reader into an introspective process to uncover and accurately portray the psyche of an individual. Profanity is not a fundamental element in literature; it adds no momentous embellishment. Therefore, I completely disagree with the reviewer that said that "the dialogues are way too sterile for this genré." The author did re-create slang words for the world the book takes place in, such as "veck" and "dregg hopper." This was quite creative, in my opinion, and I felt like the dialogue was very appropriate for the genré. The former reviewer must not have realized that the genré is science FICTION. I think he/she missed a key word there!

As for the mention of the unnecessary presence of Christianity in the book - there actually was no direct mention of Christianity whatsoever. The religion in the book is an unnamed religion. The words "Christ" and "Bible" don't even appear, as the book Scott reads is only referred to as "Scripture." It IS a "natural part" of a person's psyche to reflect upon their plan, what they will choose to do, and what is `right' from the standpoint of a `spiritual aspect.' That's normal and an inevitable component of the human experience.

Overall, I think this is an awesome book! I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in intellectual entertainment, and I look forward to reading the second book in the series, Outlaw Trigger!

This book is a remarkable display of a writer's ability to give the reader a stunning visual without dragging the story down with minutae. The story focuses on Scott Remington, a rookie member of EDEN, the future defense system of earth against invading aliens. Though the genre is science fiction, this book appeals to trekkies and non-trekkies alike (the writer of this review being in the latter category). The first novel, in what promises to be a fantastic series, introduces the characters who fight with Remington to protect the earth and discover the motivation behind the alien attacks.

The book is a thrilling read, pushing the reader through a gamut of emotions: on the edge anticipation, terrifying alien encounters, and moments of fist pumping elation. At the climax of the story, the action brought the reviewer to head to toe chills. The characters are so well drawn, the dialogue so authentic, one instantly relates to the heroes of the story and finds a favorite to root for easily. The action in the story is equiavalent to watching a favorite sport, moments of victory feel like having your team score or seeing a knockout.

I received two novels from Amazon at the same time, one from CS Lewis and this one from the unknown Stephens. I couldn't put Stephens book down and can say I was more intrigued by Stephens' novel than Lewis'. So I can say this book was even better than CS Lewis!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Epic: Dawn of Destiny - My Official Review 10 septembre 2007
Par Joshua M. Anderson - Publié sur Amazon.com
Epic: Dawn of Destiny is the story of Scott Remington, a young man just out of the military academy. It follows him through his first battle, where his actions earn him a reputation among his commanding officers (If you want to know what kind of reputation, read the book), through his re-assignment to another unit, and ends with the third major battle of his military career. Along the way he makes and loses friends, and also makes a few enemies.

After reading this book, I was prepared to give it an average review at best. There were several items that I thought could have been better in the story; these are outlined below. However, after taking an extra day to think about it, I decided I really couldn't give it anything less than five stars. This is a very, very entertaining story and the author does a good job of pulling you in and keeping the story rolling.

There were a few items that I thought could use some improvement:

- Scott Remington performs several difficult missions that no one else is able to pull off over the course of this book. However, the author makes these missions seem almost too easy for Remington. If they are so difficult, how can he complete them with the reletive ease that we see in the story?
- Some extra time could have been devoted to developing the other characters a little bit better. While the the author does a decent job on his character development, none of the characters other than Remington are that memorable.
- Finally, the subplot with Remington and Nicole almost seems like an afterthought to the story, added after the rest of the plot has been completed, wherever room can be found to add it. The resulting conversations are also fairly unrealistic. The two of them would have had a much harder time with the story developments than is actually shown.

In closing, while I do think that the above points could be improved on, they do not stop this book from being a highly entertaining, fast-paced story. Any book that keeps me reading until 4 in the morning is well-deserving of the five star rating that I give it. While science-fiction is defintely not my preferred reading, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good war story. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

great book. I'm not big on sci fi, I'll take a good horror story any day of the week, but word of mouth tracked me down and I decided to give Dawn of destiny a shot. I am glad I did.

This book reads so smoothly you actually get sucked into it. A Lot of people talk about not being able to put a book down, I had to put this one down a couple of times just to pull myself out of it. It is so intense I felt like I was there.

The characters in the story are so believable. There is at least one thing you can indentify with each of them. the hero is great, not superhuman, just a man trying to get the job done. he's the first guy to admit he's no superman, that down to earth quality in a hero made me like him from the start.

The overall story reads like a movie, flowing easily from one chapter to the next, no down time. You will find no reason to skip ahead looking for action because it never loses the pace, from beginning to end.

This is one of the best books I have ever read, and I am an avid reader. If book 2 is as good as Dawn of Destiny Lee Stephen could quickly become my favorite author.
