A few hits, a lot of misses 24 avril 2014

I'm a true Disneyphile and listen to a lot of trance, house and EDM, so I definitely *wanted* Dconstructed to be great. Sadly, like some other commenters have mentioned, a lot of the artists seem to have phoned it in, with only a few jewels standing out.

While Armin's reinterpretation (hardly a remix) of "Let It Go" will probably be the headline track for many, it was a 3-star track by my standards. The original is far better, even if your 5 year-old has made you listen to it 1000 times on the way to school already. To me, the real gems were Main Street Electrical Parade [Shinichi Osawa Extended Mix] and Baby Mine [Kaskade House Version].

I also thoroughly enjoyed Kaskade's "Pineapple Princess", and even found a great hook midway through "Partysaurus Overflow," which was otherwise forgettable. Circle of Life and The Muppet Show Theme were both disappointing to the point where I deleted the MP3s as soon as I had listened to them once.

In all, this is a fair value for $10, since of the 14 tracks on the CD there are two that are outstanding, three that are great, and another 3 or 4 that are plenty good enough to justify buying the whole album versus just picking up individual tracks.

If you loved Tron Legacy: R3CONF1GUR3D, you'll love this. 22 avril 2014
Par Ryan Bruce - Publié sur Amazon.com
With big names like Mat Zo, Avicii, Armin van Buuren, and Kaskade, this is an album that won't disappoint EDM fans who also love Disney.

There are a few tracks that are a little weak or out of place (more about Pineapple Princess later) but Kaskade's Baby of Mine* and Mat Zo's Circle of Life are great. It's no surprise that Let it Go is on here, and hearing it behind some pumping bass is pretty fun too.

My biggest thumbs down actually comes from the track selection. R3CONF1GUR3D already took care of Tron Legacy; I don't think that it should have 2 of the 14 track slots (even though I liked the songs, I feel that the space could have been better used). I also feel that Pineapple Princess doesn't flow with the rest of the tracks. I had never heard of this song before Dconstructed so I did some research; the only tie that I can find to anything Disney was that the album was released under Disney Records.

I do wish there was more music from the Disney Renaissance era (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, etc) [...] but maybe if Dconstructed succeeds they'll do a Vol II? Disney *does* like their sequels after all.

BTW, an amusing anecdote about the Kaskade track: He actually made it 6 years ago. [...]

*While it's more of a "cover" than a mix (I don't think there's anything from the original song in it) it's probably my favorite track on here. I'm a sucker for house music with female vocals.

Heard Better, Heard Worse 29 avril 2014

Admittedly, I 'scrubbed' through the album, but haven't given it a second listen. I'm all about diversity on a remix album and fully expect to hear some techno/trance, some dubstep, some chillout, and usually a handful of more unique tracks from other genres, sometimes not even from the EDM heading. The thing that irked me the most about Dconstructed was that the songs I heard didn't even adhere to the original's song structure. Having a 64-bar intro or an instrumental bridge is one thing, and a 'dub edit' of a song that loops a hook as the basis for its song is one thing, but the album as a whole seemed to take all of this and throw it in a blender, only using bits and pieces of the song into a homogeneous mixture of dubsteppy stuff that bears so little resemblance to the originals that I really wonder why they even bothered - Disney must charge a fortune for the licensing rights to make the remixes, but if they're so unlike the originals, why not take the Disney aspects of it out and just make an original album? Now it's possible to say "well the album *is* titled 'Dconstructed' so expecting it to sound like the originals is a bit much". As much as I understand that, even the "Tron:Legacy" remix album had the underpinnings clear within the mixes. Then again, my basis for comparison is "O2/Avalon:Remixed", the best remix album ever, even if you don't like Christian music. Half of me is bummed that twelve years of remix album culture would have produced a better work than Dconstructed, the other half says that the nature of EDM music itself has changed in that time and the people remixing are doing things foundationally different than they did then, so it's a bit of an unfair comparison.

tl;dr version: It's an EDM album. Resemblance to the original Disney tracks is to be considered a happy coincidence. If you're looking for dance versions of Disney classics, this album isn't for you. If you're looking for an album that throws techno, dubstep, and chillout into a blender and consider Disney references to be a nice bonus, you'll like it.

Let the remixes run free! 29 juillet 2014

I've been hooked on remixes since Hooked on Classics came out decades ago. (See what I did there?)

For the past two weeks, this cd has been getting the most play on my various devices. I also happen to be a bit of a Disney nut. So this paring of contemporary remixes is right up my alley. Though not akin to the Mickey Mouse Disco of the 70's, with all of its original tracks, this upbeat retelling of so many familiar tracks and tunes is well worth the listen if you happen to also enjoy dance pop & remixes. I will also say, more remixes from Tron Legacy is certainly a bonus.

If anyone at Walt Disney Records reads this... More Please!!!

Cool Points for Disney 26 avril 2014

I'm giving this review 5 stars because I want to give Disney credit for the work they are doing with EDM, and it's artists. They is something for every fan of EDM on this compilation, and it's actually quite fun to listen to. After you listen to it for a few times, you will find that tracks you didn't like, at first, are now you favorites. For me "ROAR", from Monsters University, is one of those tracks. It has a fun playful Dub step vibe I really enjoy. "Let it Go", from Frozen, is very easy to listen to. And while more could have been done with the vocals from the source material, I still hold it as one of my favorites. I say you spend the 10 bucks and make up your own minds.
