Présentation de l'éditeur

Angel Delaney puts up a tough front-as a female police officer she must. She works for peace in her coastal Oregon town, but loathes the means she must sometimes use to get it. So when her line of duty requires her to use deadly force against a twelve-year-old boy, Angel's world begins to crumble.

The community wants answers, and Angel is dismayed to find that the media portrays her as a racist, a rogue cop, and a menace. While she works to clear her name and her conscience, the investigation into her use of deadly force creates more questions than answers.

The detective working on Angel's case, has his hands full when crucial evidence disappears and other people are found murdered. Do these killings relate to the boy's death? Is Angel next?

"Angel Delaney is a character with real staying power. The story will keep you flipping pages as you get caught up, not only in the police procedural, but also Angel's personal life. Can't wait for the next installment!"-James Scott Bell, author of A Higher Justice

Angel Delaney is a police woman, she has returned to her native Oregon and found her place in the local brigade. Her parents and siblings are loving, everything seems well when her world shatters. She is caught in a shooting, a boy is killed. Her career is on the line... the only one who seems to help and believe her is a handsome detective.
Beyond the instant attraction between those two, there is a real police story with meanies, dead people, and the story unfolds well. This was an enjoyable entertaining read I recommend.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Suspense is not watered down at all... 7 février 2004
Par Huntress Reviews - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
Although Angel is an unlikely name for a cop, Angel Delaney was a good one. Police work appeared to be her calling, until she was one of the officers on scene when a gang breaks into a pharmacy. In a confrontation with one youth, the choice seems to be shoot or be shot. Despite this, she almost does not fire, and when she does, it's not to kill, yet it does.
Angel is sure she fired once, but there are three wounds, one fatal. Suddenly, she is under investigation, which is SOP, but being accused of racism is not. Angel finds herself the target of vengeance and possibly of the real killer. Her world becomes one full of questions; not only the whys of the case, but of faith and forgiveness. She must confront her past in order to have peace with her future, if the killer will let her have one, that is.
*** Deadly Aim confronts readers with hard hitting issues that war inside most people's souls. Christians are forgiven, but even for us, it's hard to forgive when it involves someone you love, or yourself. She also addresses how the dead haunt the living, though not as ghosts. The story's message is not preachy, but it is there, and not watered down either. ***

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Timely and Terrific 7 juillet 2004
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com

Deadly Aim is timely in that it deals with a problem many police officers face--use of deadly force. Rushford, shows how the shooting, in which Angel Delaney is involved, affects Angel herself as well as the community and the family of the victim.
Terrific in that Deadly Aim is one of the best mysteries I've read in a long time. The characters have so much depth and the story seemed so realistic. I loved it and couldn't put it down.

***WARNING - POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

I was excited when I started to read Deadly Aim. I was anxious to learn who was framing Angel Delaney and what lay at the root of her personal demons.

Sadly, this book went off track fairly quickly. I feel that had the author stuck with the mystery aspect and the familial issues, this work would have been much more cohesive.
As it was though, repeated and unnecessary references to cooking, extolling the virtues of health food, interior decorating, exactly what the characters were wearing, immature romantic musings, and religious ponderings drug down the core of the book, which in itself was really quite good.

In trying to include all of these things, vital points in the timeline of events got jumbled. I had to go reread a section where the author alluded to an event that had happened at least two days prior as having just happened the night before. I was sure I had lost the plot, but no, the event was incorrectly referenced. There were also other instances where things that the characters said or did were changed without explanation.

I also found the accounts of the forensic and ballistics measures taken by the authorities to be poorly portrayed. The autopsy results on two of the murders came back very quickly, but the results on the murder that affected Angel the most took much longer. When crucial evidence comes up missing, it is not made clear if that evidence included bullets that had been retrieved from the crime scene or if perhaps they were still present inside of the victim. Making this clear earlier on in the story would have gone a long way towards making the story more concise.

I do appreciate that the romance aspect did not become smarmy. I am not a huge fan of the romance genre and sexually explicit dialogue does not interest me in the least. I feel though that there was too much 'I like him/her, but I shouldn't' and 'I wonder what it would feel like to be in his arms' type of inner dialogue. Nothing kills my interest in a mystery/thriller quite as quickly as when romance is forced into a story.

I wish this book had been edited by a skilled editor. I feel that had the extraneous bits been weeded out and the story tightened up, it could have been a really good read. As it is though, I am not a fan nor will I be likely to seek out other works by this author.

While responding to a robbery call, Police Officer Angel Delaney reacts by shooting a young boy when he aims his gun on her. Her world immediately starts spinning out of control as the incident quickly draws the attention of the media. Even more devastating for Angel is finding out later the gun the boy had pointed at her was in actuality a toy gun.

With the media portraying her in the most unflattering light, Angel starts looking for answers. Investigating the incident is Police Detective Callen Riley. With important evidence from the shooting scene gone missing and facts not adding up, Callen believes there might be more to what happened than meets the eye. Together Angel and Callen team up to solve this mystery.

Deadly Aim by Patricia Rushford was a great start to a promising series. Angel's role as a female officer made the book especially enjoyable for me. The twists and turns throughout the book kept it interesting and suspenseful. This book is definitely a recommended mystery novel.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Entertaining, but predictable. 13 novembre 2012

You should know that this is two different stories.
First, it's a police story, and a good one too.
Then it's a love story, a chick story, and for me, eh.
But, I stuck with it, well written, all the usual suspects, and she finds love in the end, or does she?
The price was right. I need more action, less "Our eyes met, I had to look away for fear I'd throw myself into his powerful arms........."

You choose.
