Présentation de l'éditeur

#1 bestseller in Romantic Suspense
NYT and USA Today Bestselling Series

"I own you. I have the piece of paper to prove it. It's undeniable and unbreakable. You belong to me until you've paid off your debts." Nila Weaver's family is indebted. Being the first born daughter, her life is forfeit to the first born son of the Hawks to pay for sins of ancestors past. The dark ages might have come and gone, but debts never leave. She has no choice in the matter. She is no longer free.

Jethro Hawk receives Nila as an inheritance present on his twenty-ninth
birthday. Her life is his until she's paid off a debt that's centuries old. He can do what he likes with her--nothing is out of bounds--she has to obey. There are no rules. Only payments.

*Debt Inheritance is a full length book at 252 pages and ends on a cliffhanger.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Pepper Winter's is my Queen of Dark! 25 août 2014

“Warning: Please note this is book one of a series. It is a Dark Romance that will unfold slowly with many twists and turns. In true Pepper fashion there will be a HEA. You just have to see past the darkness for the light.”

When an author such as Pepper Winters includes a disclaimer like this before they synopsis of her book, I take it seriously. I know when I delve into the deep dark worlds Pepper creates, I must keep an open mind and challenge my reading comfort zones. Debt Inheritance definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone with arduous characters, uncompromising plots, and feelings of bewilderment.

Debt Inheritance begins with Nila Weaver. She is a clothing designer at the top of her profession. She is also completely sheltered by her father and brother. She is very naive to the ways of relationships and love. Unfortunately for her, she is suddenly forced into a brutal world she is seriously unprepared for. Even I wasn’t prepared for it and I’ve read all of Pepper’s books! Nila meets Jethro Hawk (I love this character name) and is essentially handed over to him by her father. She has no idea that the world she has created for herself in long gone. She is now the property of the Hawk family. My eyes bugged out of my head when the proof of the debt is revealed in the story. Nila, her father, and brother have absolutely no recourse.

A few key scenes stand out for me in Debt Inheritance–the scene with Nila in the dog kennel and the dining room. I don’t think I’ve experienced such a range of emotions in a long time. The dog kennel scene had me bawling my eyes out for Nila. Her inner dialogue and emotions made an huge impact on me. Reading the dining room scene had my jaw dropping more than a few times. It’s seriously intense and startling, to say the least. It’s this type of dark plot point that always makes me question why I read dark romances. But ultimately Pepper’s characters and plot atone for their moral misdirections and I’m once again ready for where the story will take me.

I try to avoid reviews of books that I’m also reviewing for a blog tour. However, Debt Inheritance has cause quite a stir in my circle of social media friends and fan sites. There are many raves and rants about how this story plays out. This is not a light-hearted read. It is dark and very disturbing at times. If you’ve read any of Pepper Winter’s books, you’re well aware of this. This book is also part of a serial series. It’s going to end with a cliff-hanger. Typically, this is how serials are intended to be. If you go into this book with this knowledge, you understand the world you’re diving into. I went in with both eyes wide open, expecting to confront some of my reading comfort zones. Debt Inheritance met all of my expectations and then some. I enjoyed the dark plot, deeply complex characters, and the back story that has me worried for some of the citizens in England. hahaha I really loved this book and I cannot wait for the next installment. I give Debt Inheritance 5 out of 5 stars!

*I was given a review copy of Debt Inheritance in exchange for an honest review.

Makes me so sad to do this, because I love dark romance and I love pepper winters, but I most definitely did not love this book. I was barely able to get thru it. I won't make this too long, but the hero is probably the worst hero I have ever read in any book, ever! He actually hits her in the head after she falls and throws up because she is embarrassing him??! Uugghh, . I hated him, her too. Very disappointed because I love pepper. I don't even want to read the next one.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 I HATED this book. 20 août 2014

*Will contain spoilers, but mostly it is my rant and shock at this ridiculous story*
I enjoy dark romance. I've read some seriously dark stuff, and some of my favourite books are very dark.
But this is shocking. It was a vile read from start to finish. It was funny at first. Up until 30 percent, I was sort of just rolling my eyes and scratching my head at the five star reviews because it was just so absurd.

To sum it up, this book has zero romance. Which is fine, I get it. But the male character is unredeemable and that can never change, no matter what is in store for the next books. The heroine is so far fetched and unrealistic. We're meant to believe that she can change her entire mindset and outlook on life and change after a day or so of captivity????

Look, I love an alpha male hero. I love a strong heroine. But to put it blatantly, when a book's heroine hungers for the man that SEXUALLY ASSAULTS her, and can be spurred on with romantic thoughts about him hours after the VILE, DISGUSTING things that happen to her -- that is when I know it has been pushed too far. When the girl is struck, made to walk like a DOG and to SLEEP with DOGS, that is when I know it has been pushed too far. When she is being passed around a room to be LICKED in EVERY which way imaginable (and yes, ladies, down below where she actually gets wet from!) by 30 men -- that is when it is beyond salvaging!!!!

And all for WHAT?!?!!?!!? A DEBT FROM SIX HUNDRED F*CKING YEARS AGO?!?! This is MADNESS. Absolutely RIDICULOUS. It defies logic. This is an insult to women! At least with other dark romance books, the men are REDEEMABLE. They STRUGGLE. Never have I come across a male that is so despicable in every way imaginable.

You want to romanticise about repeated sexual assault? Being collared and walked like a dog? Having a stupid woman succumb to a vile man that shows absolutely no redeemable quality? That has done nothing but demean her, allowing his father and brothers to violate her as well as dozens of others? Whose heroine goes from being weak to strong to weak again, and suddenly transforms like a phoenix from the ashes after a bloody day? If that is your thing... then go ahead and read! And enjoy the lunacy that is this book where a woman is nothing but filth.

This book kept me on my toes. One minute I would be sure something was about to happen for it to be totally nothing I would have expected. I cannot wait for the second book to come out. The description of the book almost turned me off, but I was a little intrigued. When it went on sale for $.99 I decided that it was worth it to just see what it was about. I am so glad I did. I couldn't put it down, I started and finished all last night. It has been a while since I have done that. Thanks Pepper!

1.0 étoiles sur 5 NOT A ROMANCE NOVEL: There can definitely never be a HEA to this story of kidnap, physical abuse, and humiliation. 18 septembre 2014
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
Truly NOT a romance novel! I stumbled on this book as one of the books in the recent Captured bundled set. Had I seen the reviews before I read it, I would have simply skipped it and gone on to read the next story in the bundle. However, now that I have read it, I feel compelled to at least warn others who might pick this book up as an individual purchase. If you want to read about a main male character who treats the main female character with contempt and cruelty, totally disregarding her as even a human being needing basic food and shelter, and who is seething with anger at her, as if she had personally injured him, even though they have never met; who never gives her a clue why she is being kidnapped, tortured, humiliated, and had the lives of her family threatened, and yet is enraged when she asks why and puts up any resistance to "accepting her fate", then this is the book for you. The main male character of this book cannot be called a "bad boy" He is not just confused, misled, misunderstood, damaged by a previous love affair, hurt by the heroine, or any other variation on a "working towards being redeemed" storyline. He is just a cruel, sadistic perverted man who for some reason (never explained) believes he is entitled to be so. There CANNOT be any redemption for him. There is no way his actions can ever be forgiven, as there can be no excuse for them. No sane person would ever want a romantic relationship with him, even if he ultimately stopped being part of his family's gang of perverted thugs and tried to rescue her. I read the book to the end, as I genuinely just wanted to know what the debt was that would allow this bully and his family to believe they had a right to kidnap, rape, torture and ultimately murder the women of a rival family and just expect that family to let them - for over 600 years. Spoiler alert: after 200+ pages, the question is never answered. The story is as inexplicable at the last page as it was on the first page. Apparently, we are expected to continue to buy the books until the author chooses to reveal the rationale these despicable characters are using as an excuse to practice their sadism. If this is your genre, great. I just felt compelled to at least forewarn readers that is a very disturbing story with no resolution and no chance EVER for a HEA.
