Decline & Fall 28 juin 2014

Glad to see these guys back. I never thought I'd be seeing the day when Godflesh puts out a new disc. And while it's not my favorite release of Godflesh's catalog it certainly can stand with the classics. For me, the first track released "Ringer" is kinda the weaker track on here. Not to say it's bad, but it takes some time to make it's presence known... If anything, one of Godflesh's earlier strengths was it's ability to take it's time and really examine moods and textures. On Decline & Fall - it's sort of the opposite. It's
short and concise. (For their standards anyway) Don't get me wrong all the ingredients that make a Godflesh album great are present- heavy guitars & with dissonance, the bass guitar from hell, programmed drums and sometimes yelled sometimes monotone sung vocals. But there was all the feeling of utter sheer urgency in the delivery- even if sometimes the result wasn't as in your face.
It really doesn't sound like Godflesh truly found it's voice on Decline & Fall until the title track beats you over the head- and does it ever! There were some points where I sorta questioned Godflesh's motives- what could possibly be disturbing guys that are now married and in some cases have children of their own? I guess the answer then lies in the question. What kind of world are we
allowing the future generation in? And how much of it is our fault and how much of it was out of our control? Even in adulthood,
there's still plenty to be sorta alienated by. I guess thats what Decline & Fall taps into.

Now bring on the full length LP! 4 Stars.

Long Live the New Flesh 18 juillet 2014
Par Ragman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
First off, I'm glad these guys are back.

Jesu started out of the gate strong, but after the Silver EP (Infinity and Opiate Sun being exceptions), their stuff really didn't do it for me. Godflesh was always the stronger project. I just think Broadrick ran out of ideas for it after a point. That, and his bizarre obsession with infusing hip hop percussion into every project he had going near the end of kind of put me off of his music anyway. I preferred the earlier releases to those last few. So, for me, the big question was whether the band was going to pick up where they left off, backtrack, or try something new.

The good news: Broadrick seems to have moved past the dub/break/hip hop sound ("Dogbite" is sorta Hymns-ish, but I can deal with it).

The bad: With the exception of "Playing with Fire" (which is amazing), the material's just okay. Plus, the $15.98 price tag for the physical copy is highway robbery. Seriously, wtf?

Normally, I'd give it two stars and call it a day, but "Playing with Fire" is insanely good -- enough to warrant another star. I just miss the pre-SoLaH wall of distortion, Justin's feedback-drenched guitar, the pounding analogue drums machines, the delayed/processed vocals buried in the mix...that soundtrack to urban decay ever in effect...

I still have high hopes for the full-length, but if it turns out I never like another Godflesh song to come from the reunion, at least I'll have gotten one great song I wouldn't have otherwise had out of it.

And it's nice to hear Green's bass rumble like that again...

Godflesh is back, familiar and beautifully brutal 27 novembre 2014
Par Surferofromantica - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Album vinyle
It's so great to have Godflesh back. The four songs on this EP certainly grind brutally with the familiar Godflesh vibe of spooky echoey vocals over a driving, fuzzy guitar layer, driven along by the familiar vibes of a drum machine.

"Ringer" zaps along brutally, the longest song on the EP, very droney and crunchy. "Dogbite" has a bit of melodic guitar work, and shouted monosyllabic lyrics. Ouch!! "Playing With Fire" slows things down a bit to the more spacey sound, bass-led, droney, echoier than other tracks. "Decline & Fall" is relatively upbeat and almost sounds like a Slayer song... Slayer with a drum machine. Wow!

The vinyl is as sparse as the music, with no liner notes or any other bonuses, although the label has a bit of artwork.

Godflesh get back to the basics 1 février 2015
Par chris - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Crushing industrial metal. Godflesh return to the basics of their old school sound after a 13 year hiatus and this 4 song ep is a little preview of things to come. Looking forward to seeing what Justin Broadrick has planned next.

Fantastic preview of what's to come. 28 septembre 2014
Par Dustin A - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
A little bit of Hymns, Pure, & Songs of Love and Hate all wrapped in one. This is the heart and soul of Godflesh and worth every penny of the $3.96 MP3 download. This may be a preview of the new album release?
