Morita was living his high school life as an otaku, deeply obsessed with 2D anime babes (although with no other interest in girls). Then he met Sakura and everything changed. His former otaku mind-set had completely switched to Sakura. Ah, true obsession.
This manga is packed with smutty sex, often explicit. There are the various misunderstandings that occur in this type of manga. It took a couple of rereadings to attune my mind when "Morita -vision" switches on. All day Morita obsesses and fantasizes over Sakura, and Sakura wonders if Morita is even listening to him, or is the only thing attracting Morita to him, sex? There is no non-con here, just passage of time as life goes on with their relationship. The bathroom stall scene is a scream. Sakura's willingness to cosplay delights Morita to no end. As a matter of fact, Sakura's resemblance to a popular anime figure and the trouble that ensues from it, brings the manga to a conclusion. There's lots going on in the panels. Reread, and reread again.

For those yaoi fangirls who are looking for entertaining yaoi smut, 801 Media delivers it in spades through "Deeply Loving a Maniac". In this story, Morita who is a hopeless otaku finally went steady with his beloved Sakura. However, despite having the real thing right in front of his eyes & within his grasps, he still could not stop zoning out all the time - fantasizing about Sakura. To hide this obsessions from Sakura, he joined various athletic programs to improve himself & become the irresistible man that Sakura might desire. Hilarities & lots of hot smexy scenes ensued from misunderstandings and jealousies as they failed to communicate their true feelings to each other, the appearance of a very accomplished rival and as Morita had to choose between the real thing or his 2D fantasy.
Even though this is a second volume in Higashino You's Maniac series, I don't feel like we are missing much at all by not having the first volume. I have read the first volume and while the story was entertaining as well, it did not make it to my must license & publish in English list. This second volume does an adequate job of summarizing the main situations in volume one and any reader can easily pick up the flow of the story without having to even refer to volume one.
I would recommend this title as a funny, smutty yaoi brain candy that any yaoi fan-girl might want to have in her diverse collection. The same goes for sensei's art - her men are well drawn with long limbs & well defined lean muscles - so very hot!

I would give this story more of a 3 1/2 stars. It had lots of qualities that make it a really good yaoi. The smut is great, the characters are good looking and likable. The entire story is told through the eyes of otaku Morita who admits that he loves 2D girls and of course all things anime/manga related. I love stories of the nerds who get the one they want, However it felt as if I was reading an incomplete story.

I would have really liked to see what life was like for Morita before he gets with the man of his dreams, Sakura. We don't know why he felt he had to get rid of his Otaku nature for him, or his struggles to get with him. The story begins with them already together in a loving relationship and Morita has already made some changes into a hunk (although when we see the before and after we see that he was already hot lol!)

I just really would have liked to have seen him transform his Otaku ways to a sexy hunk and get the guy of his dreams. I would have wanted to see how they got together. But other than that I really like the story and the smut! :D
