Présentation de l'éditeur

Regarded as one of the key figures of nineteenth century realism, Henry James has become famous for his novels and tales that explore the clash between the Old World Europeans and New World Americans. Using an innovative method of writing from a character’s point of view within a tale, James’ intellectual works explore issues related to consciousness and perception, producing his own inimitable ‘impressionist’ style. Delphi Classics is proud to present the complete works of this important master for the first time in publishing history, providing every novel, tale, non-fiction work and a wealth of bonus material.

This is indeed the complete fiction of Henry James. For two dollars you could not get more good reading. And as far as I know, a couple of the selections here, THE PRINCESS CASAMASSIMA and THE SPOILS OF POYNTON, are not available for this low a price anywhere else, let alone as part of a complete collection.

As far as I'm concerned, James is better to read in this complete fashion than Dickens, George Eliot, or other writers whose works are available on Amazon. Those writers are excellent, but spotty. James is always James: a tight, disciplined author who stays at a high level all the time.

You can dip into this collection at random and almost always find a winner. Delphi should be proud of itself.

Good responsiveness too. I contacted them here concerning a problem (since corrected by Amazon) and they were ready to help me in less than a day. It's a caring, reliable company.

Absolutely outstanding in completeness ... including even the plays and autobiographies as well as criticism and travel ... in beautiful formatting and ToC hyperlinking. Extraordinarily low price for such quality in an eBook.

Henry James hardly needs me to describe his literary accomplishments. That he is a great writer is universally recognized, and nothing I could say pro or con will change that, except to say that I marvel over the artistry and deliberateness in his choice and use of words. This Delphi set is virtually EVERYTHING one could wish for in a collected works set. All of HJ's works are here, content is TOC accessible, it is well-formatted, and revelent introductory and supplemental material is provided. It has also enabled me to clear about three feet of shelf space in my very crowded personal library without denying me accessibility to one of my favorite authors. On the contrary, everything HJ ever wrote is now at my fingertips. This set has more Henry James than any other in the Kindle Store, and anything I ever wanted to read (and re-read) by him will be found within it. I'm VERY happy with it, and I highly recommend it to others.

The two stars here have nothing to with the content of this book, which is classic. The problem is that this title does not work well with the Kindle. First the general Table of Contents is not accessible directly from the Kindle "GoTo" menu. You have to awkwardly page back through the Intro to reach it.Then the search function does not limit itself to the "book" you are reading but extends through the works, which makes it impractical. (This may be true of any of the "Complete Works of X" titles available on Kindle.) Using the search, I would sometimes end up in the wrong book, lose my place, and then have to page to the TOC to get back to where I was! Finally, for a title that comes from a professional publisher, the book contains a surprising number of typos and even some dropped text. I wish that Kindle reviews would address issues of functionality of the titles offered in Kindle version more often as, especially with classics, there is sometimes a confusing array of options and I have found that they are not equal by any means. Some are much easier to navigate than others. I've learned, for example, to avoid the "freebies" done by volunteers. It's a noble effort, but many typos and other errors make them, for me, too annoying to read with pleasure.

i previously posted the review below detailing the problems I had with this book. However, I tried downloading it a second time, and all of the problems were resolved. I have no idea why or how. So--this collection is great. Very complete. I do believe every short story is here. So, I can't recommend highly enough.

I eagerly bought this James collection after reading the enthusiastic reviews. I don't know if the previous commentators didn't dig that far into the book, or what. Perhaps this book isn't designed to work worth my generation kindle? There are whole books here where the text gives me a question mark instead of an apostrophe (as possessive). That is absolutely unacceptable. As far as I can tell, the whole first half of The Bostonians is missing. I attempted to read Roderick Hudson, and the TOC for this novel doesn't work at all. This is just what I've discovered within half an hour. Obviously, I will return this book. Also--I'm not a James scholar, but it appears to me that there are dozens of short stories missing. Plenty are here, but it is not complete. BEWARE!
