5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Mystery/Suspense 30 juillet 2014
Par M. Brown - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Deserves To Die by Lisa Jackson is a great mystery/suspense book. There are actually two mysteries contained in this book. The first is who is killing women and cutting off their ring finger. The second is who is after Jessica/Anne-Marie and why.

There has been a murder in Grizzly Falls, Montana. The body of a young woman is found, and her ring finger and ring is missing. Detectives Selena Alvarez and Regan Pescolli are the detectives assigned to the case. Besides having to work the murder, the two detectives are also struggling with the fact that their old captain, who they respect and like, has been shot and they do not know if he is going to survive. Pescolli is also dealing with another potential problem, she is pregnant. Her children are teenagers and she does not know if she wants to travel the baby road again. She is engaged but she is not sure how her fiance will react to the news of her pregnancy. She has a lot on her plate and she is struggling to get by each day. Then another woman is murdered, and again the ring finger and ring are missing. It looks as though there is a serial killer in Grizzly Falls.

Jessica/Anne Marie is on the run and she has come to Grizzly Falls looking for help from the injured captain. She is a master of disguise and although she has totally changed her appearance, she is worried that HE will find her and kill her. But who is He and why does HE want her dead?

Both story lines run side by side throughout the book and at the end they intersect in a big way. The suspense and tension build throughout the entire book, beginning on page one and ending in an explosive conclusion.

The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. They have many human characteristics, both positive and negative, just like we all do. It is easy to begin to care about them and worry about what is happening in their lives. You can feel their pain, anger, frustration and determination.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. Lisa Jackson is very descriptive in her writing and pulls you in right from the start. I felt like I was there in the middle of the snowstorms that kept pounding Grizzly Falls and was standing there at the murder sites, taking it all in. This makes for an even more exciting read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a well crafted murder/suspense book. I have read many books by this author and have enjoyed them all. If Lisa Jackson is not already an author on your to-be-read list, I would recommend you place her on your list.

I received a free copy of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this great book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another Great Installment to the Pescoli/Alvarez Series! 2 août 2014
Par Melissa Stickney - Publié sur Amazon.com

My aunt first introduced me to Lisa Jackson's novels in high school. I have been an avid reader of all her murder/mystery series ever since. I have been waiting for this book to come out for awhile.

There are quite a few twists and turns in the lastest Pescoli and Alvarez book. Pescoli having some news that she's not to sure will go over very well. Not to mention the entire department is still reeling from the shooting of their beloved Sheriff, Dan Grayson. I must say that I was extremely sad when he was shot in the last book. Like previously stated I have been reading this series for awhile, I have fallen in love with all of the characters and the quirks.

I was also really excited at the appearance of Dective Montoya...yes that's right from the Bentz and Montoya series! Although I was a little disappointed that one of my favorite New Orleans cops wasn't more involved. It was nice to see the two series cross though.

Overall a very gripping read and a fantastic continuation of the Pescoli and Alvarez series.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Grizzly Falls In Cauldron!!! 31 juillet 2014

Lisa Jackson writes some intriguing mystery thrillers and always loved them. I really loved her “McCaffertys” series. In her “To Die” series, Selena Alvarez and Regan Pescoli take the front seat as detectives in Grizzly Falls, Montana.

There is a lot happening in Grizzly Falls this time. A couple of bodies of young women appearing with their ring fingers missing, keeps Pescoli and Regan on their toes. Added to this, Dan Grayson gets shot in a previous story and now he is in coma with no chance of recovery, and the new fill in sheriff Hooper Blackwater has big shoes to fill and appease the residents of Grizzly Falls.

In parallel, Anna Marie is on the run from her psychotic ex-husband and she seems to have become the mistress of disguise trying to stay safe. Unfortunately her plans to stay safe and get help from Grayson goes down the drain and she realizes, has another past lover boy on her trail as the bounty hunter.

“Deserves To Die” is the sixth in this series. Reading it alone would be more enjoyable as Lisa Jackson tries to bring new developments with the Graysons, changes in Alvarez’s life, but her true fans may not like it as much as the others. It definitely has some exciting moments and the ending was real good. Somehow bringing in Grayson’s family did not sit very well with me, unless it is leading to more in her future books in this series.

All in all, it’s definitely not Lisa’s best, yet it is good enough for a quick read.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 A Middle of the Road Crime Read 19 septembre 2014
Par Maxine (Booklover Catlady) - Publié sur Amazon.com

I have not read anything by Lisa Jackson before, nor was familiar with the main characters in this novel. However, I am an avid reader of crime fiction, it being my most read genre, and have read many styles of crime novels over many years. So I was looking forward to reading this.

In Grizzly Falls, Montana, Detectives Selena Alvarez and Regan Pescoli are struggling with a new commander and a department in the midst of upheaval. It's the worst possible time for a homicide. A body has been found, missing a finger. Alvarez hopes this means a murderer with a personal grudge, not a madman. But then a second body turns up...

The first half of the book was difficult to follow at times, there were a LOT of characters and it was hard to follow who was who apart from the two main Detectives, Alvarez and Pescoli. Whilst the book is partly about their investigation of the death of a woman missing her ring finger, it's also got a lot of side stories weaved in.

There is also a lot of focus on the personal lives of the two detectives, I think some background is good in building up character profiles, but I did feel at times this was TOO much, taking away from the buzz of it essentially being a crime novel. I was wanting to skip some of the sections focused on their homes and relationships (I didn't) and get to the more meaty parts of the book.

A stranger is in town also, on the run, and this character plays a big part in the story too, I felt that this character was one of the better portrayed actually and one that I connected with the most, the most tangible. I struggled to relate at all to either Detective Alvarez of Pescoli, they seemed out of reach to me despite so much private life detail. Like I could not quite touch them in the novel.

I found the first half of the book slow going, nothing much piecing together and not enjoying it that much. But the latter half of the book I found was much more readable, had more action and became more of the crime novel that it is.

The few different stories intersect towards the end of the book and bits and pieces start to make more sense, up to this point at times it seems disjointed, and the style of writing different depending on who was the focus of the chapter and what was the focus. There was certainly TOO much information in some chapters, getting you lost in a sea of words.

It was an ok read, not the best crime novel I have ever read, nor the worst, just sitting on the fence as mediocre. I am not very inspired to read more of Lisa Jackson but perhaps may try something different of hers outside of the characters of these two female detectives to see if it's much different.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 It keeps you entertained. 30 juillet 2014

Lisa Jackson gives us fast paced stories. with compelling characters, that are not perfect or always agreeable, like in the case of Detective Pescoli who is one of the main characters of this series, I always look forward to the next book in great part to see how Pescoli is doing, she is a single mother of two teenagers, need I say more!
The plot line in "Deserves to Die " is ok it keeps you interested, it has suspense and intrigue, drama and a big surprise that I did not see coming, I won't give you particulars because I don't want to ruin the book for you. I mentioned that it's a series, if you haven't read any of the previous books it's fine you still understand what's going on because there is always a new plot, it's just the recurring characters that you might have some questions about, but not that it will spoil the book for you, and if you are really interested you can always go to the beginning. The only complaint that I have with Lisa Jackson's books is that some times the endings are not as detailed as I would like, but that's life I guess.
