Présentation de l'éditeur

The ball handler that fakes and then drives past a defender for an easy score. A pass rusher that leaves a would-be blocker in his wake on the way to sacking the quarterback. A setter that manages to maneuver both the body and the ball in a blink of the eye to make the perfect pass for the kill and match winning point. All examples why agility and quickness are such prized physical attributes in modern sport. Efforts to become markedly quicker or more agile, however, aren t always successful. Genetic limitations, technical deficiencies, and inferior training activities are among the major obstacles. Developing Agility and Quickness helps athletes blow past those barriers thanks to the top sports conditioning authority in the world, the National Strength and Conditioning Association. NSCA hand picked its top experts to present the best training advice, drills, and programs for optimizing athletes linear and lateral movements. Make Developing Agility and Quickness a key part of your conditioning program, and get a step ahead of the competition.

This book is excellent for agility and quickness. It doesn't only give you drills but explains the foundation of which agility and quickness are built from a motot development outlook. It gives you a brief summary of factors such as reaction time, anticipation, perception, arousal and information processing though not termed as such.It also gives you types of instructional approaches and methods you can use to test and perform the drills.Unlike other drill books that stick solemnly to drill this book expands on the scietific aspect of performance.Great for people who understand the science behind sport training.

Add this resource to your training library 8 décembre 2011

If you are a fitness professional or strength coach and work with individuals who want to improve their athletic performance this book is an excellent resource for the principles and techniques related to training agility and quickness. If you are an athlete or coach who is looking for new drills or ideas for improving your game or practice, this book has an number of different exercises with illustrations and pictures to show how to set up and run the drills. The best thing about the way that Jay laid it out and wrote it is that you don't need a technical background in exercise science to be able to apply the ideas to your next training session or practice. Well done.

A decent resource for those beginning in the field of athletic performance training. 10 juillet 2013

I bought this book hoping there would be "new age" philosophies on agility and quickness training. Unfortunately the book covered the basics which was just a review of every other published work out there. The drills listed in the second half of the book were ok, but again, very repetitive to every other resource online or published. I thought I would be getting a lot more information and drills I could use in my profession, but I came away with about 5 drills out of the whole book. I would not recommend to anyone unless you are just starting out with speed and quickness training.

Very helpful for me ... 3 novembre 2012

Finally I found what I was looking for. I'm shooting IPSC/USPSA/IDPA and was looking for exercises, that can improve my quickness and agility to be faster in moving from one shooting position to another. Extremely useful book for me, very well written and structured. The pictures and sketches are helpful and give very good idea of the proper execution of the exercises. Using the book I was able to build my workout plan. I strongly recommend it.

Make sure to read chapter 1 - a game changer for me 12 août 2012

This book is very well written. I was extremely pleased with the first chapter. Not only did I learn a great deal of technical background about what improves speed, quickness and agility but it totally opened my eyes to what I REALLY need to focus on with my players. Sure, I need to improve their physical capabilities and the book definitely has many examples on how to do that but what I REALLY need to do is improve their ability to anticipate and react correctly and quickly to game situations. If you can get a 1/2 second headstart on the other guy because you knew what was going to happen before it happened then there's pretty much no way that other guy is ever going to make up that 1/2 second headstart. The book gives greater detail and builds that argument very eloquently.

I expected to just use this as a resource for how to layout 3, 4 or 5 cones but it has totally changed my approach. I am sure my baseball players will become better athletes by doing the drills in this book but they'll become better baseball players because I will put drills and movements in a baseball context. I am so glad I bought this book rather than searching the web for 1 drill here and 1 drill there.
