5.0 étoiles sur 5 For Those About To Nurse, She Salutes You! 29 août 2012

I am "Pumped Up" about this book! First of all, there is lots of practical information that was compiled very neatly in one place, which was incredibly helpful. We were sent home with lots of lose leaf pieces of paper about freezing the milk, pumping, etc. and I found that having all of that right in one book was so much easier. Then there are the inspiring, funny, and touching stories of real moms and their experiences with nursing. It was like talking with girlfriends about the struggles and triumphs of nursing and no topic was too embarrassing to be discussed. I felt much better about my own doubts, questions, and abilities after reading what they had to say. Ms. Singleton has a fun, down-to-earth, and practical way of writing that is never preachy or harsh and is very encouraging to new moms. It's even great for veteran moms who have "been there, done that". If you are looking for honest to goodness guidance on breast feeding, go no further than Milk Diaries. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll lactate...and you won't be alone!

A friend of mine read me some excerpts from this book. Sounded like it's full of great advice for women who want to nurse their babies. Since I am not a woman, I will not be using Milk Diaries as a resource, but I will be using it as a gift for my friends who are expecting.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Fun, Kleenex-Worthy Read 20 juin 2013

Get any group of mothers with young children together- or even just two of us--and the stories start coming. Labor stories, teething stories, blowout-diapers-in-public stories, the list goes on. It's refreshing to hear someone reassure you that no, you're not the only one who has experienced the joys, fears, and constant battle with bodily fluids that mark the first few years of motherhood.

Milk Diaries does in print what we do naturally. It tells stories. The beauty of the book is that these stories are fresh, honest, and completely uncensored. These women have laughed, cried, struggled, smeared on the lanolin, and soldiered on. Anyone who hasn't been through the experience cannot truly understand the myriad of emotions, pressures, and sheer exhaustion that nursing entails.

The book is broken into sections: Stories of Determination (get out the Kleenex for this one); Stories of Humor (my favorite); Stories of Wisdom (great tips here!); and Stories of Confidence (you go, girl!) Each of these has several short entries that detail their best and worst experiences as nursing mothers. And not all of them "succeeded." Part of the honesty is admitting what Maggie writes in the forward: there is no such thing as Supermom.

This book would not replace The Nursing Mother's Companion or similar "how to" books, but that's not its goal. What this book does is add another voice to the conversation, and it's the voice of a friend--a whole roomful of friends--letting mothers know, "Hey. You're not alone, and you can do this. And here's a napkin for that spit-up on your shirt."

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Like a Conversation with Friends 26 septembre 2012
Par kelloggs77 - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
In an industry full of how-to's, guidebooks, and manuals about every parenting topic imaginable, "Milk Diaries" stands out...because it is none of those things. Most experienced parents will tell you that nothing ever goes according to "the books," and usually the most helpful advice a mother can get is from her friends who have been there. "Milk Diaries" is like a conversation with a group of girlfriends who all understand your breastfeeding struggles, worries, and questions. And just like a good conversation with friends, it is full of wisdom, support, and a good dose of humor. Singleton not only brings together the voices of many breastfeeding moms, but she offers her own voice, which is both well-educated on the subject AND completely endearing. It is unlike any breastfeeding book I have ever read, and I wish it had been around when I was a new mother struggling with breastfeeding. I will most definitely be giving this book as a gift at every baby shower I attend from here on out.

I found this book to be really helpful. I searched all over when I was pregnant with my first for a great realistic book on nursing and couldn't find anything. There was a book on everything else, and there were books on how to breastfeed, but nothing on real life situations. This was a nice easy read, and a great resource. I have since talked to other moms who have been struggling with this and with having the necessary family support. I have told them about this book since it gives a great perspective on this. I am lucky to be from a family that supports breastfeeding, but I know a lot of people aren't and this book would be beneficial for them and anyone who is thinking about breastfeeding.
