Présentation de l'éditeur

Winner of ISSTD's 2009 Pierre Janet Writing Award for the best publication on dissociation in 2009!

Dissociation and the Dissociative Disorders is a book that has no real predecessor in the dissociative disorders field. It reports the most recent scientific findings and conceptualizations about dissociation; defines and establishes the boundaries of current knowledge in the dissociative disorders field; identifies and carefully articulates the field’s current points of confusion, gaps in knowledge, and conjectures; clarifies the different aspects and implications of dissociation; and sets forth a research agenda for the next decade. In many respects, Dissociation and the Dissociative Disorders both defines and redefines the field.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 THE BEST SINGLE BOOK ON DISSOCIATION 6 avril 2011

This book is insane. Truly a bible for dissociative disorders, it is comprised of the most up to date, and most comprehensive assortment of academic articles about every aspect of the dissociative spectrum.

I suffered from depersonalization disorder and complex trauma. I came across this book as I was trying to educate myself and recover. I eventually used this book as a source for a video program I made on how to recover from depersonalization. At 900 pages I affectionately refer to it as "the big dog".

The article by Giovanni Liotti about disorganized attachment was particularly illuminating. Allan Schore's article on attachment trauma and the developing right brain was another one of my favorites. Elizabeth Howell's article on conceptualizing borderline personality as "chronic relational trauma" was also excellent and shows that dissociation is at the root of a number of personality disorders.

This book is a treasure box full of information about dissociation, a topic that is so important, yet often so overlooked and misunderstood even by therapists, which is a tragedy.

This has been the most useful and most educational tool for me as a student, sufferer of DID, and as someone trying to educate those around me, including the practitioners I work together with in helping me better understand my condition. This is an area that could be talked about for many more hundreds of pages; indeed it only seems to scratch the surface and make clear that there is much yet to be learned on the subject. That being said, it also makes very clear how alarmingly out of date and misinformed most of the leading/most used sources of information are right now. It is still very encouraging to see that such a work has been in progress and is hopefully still in discussion around the world by the inquiring minds that are behind the production of this book.

Highly enlightening and worth every penny. At least check this out of your library if you have ever had any interest or think you know anything about this subject. At least think of who you know and let THEM know about it, please.

This is really a superb achievement and contains an incredible amount of information about the dissociative disorders. There are chapters on the history, going back to Janet and cutting edge theories of Dissociative Identity Disorder ( DID ). If you want one book on dissociation, this should be the one. Why for example is it important to understand DID? Well, Bromberg suggests that personality disorders are dissociation based and that understanding DID is the touchstone for understanding them. All, in all I would highly recommend this book......yes, it is expensive but you get 900 pages of very detailed information.
