New Love Blooms as Spring Falls on Gresham

As Andrew and Julia Phelps enjoy newly married life, the town of Gresham awaits the next big romance. Surely with spring around the corner, new love must soon arrive, but few could predict where it would blossom.

Reserved schoolmistress Lydia Clark had resigned herself to solitary life when she suddenly finds herself with two eligible men seeking her hand. But even as she considers their offers, her heart is drawn to someone else. Newcomer Noelle Somerville has settled in Gresham with secrets to hide, and nursing a broken heart. An unexpected turn of events makes her wildest dreams seem possible at last.

More than one unlikely romance blooms among the villagers, and readers will be delighted as timid hearts are renewed by the joy of unforeseen love.

Book Description

New Love Blooms as Spring Falls on Gresham

Rave reviews from reader's across the country accompanied Lawana Blackwell's first two books in THE GRESHAM CHRONICLES and now, with The Dowry of Miss Lydia Clark, she introduces her most charming story yet! Set in 1872 in a quaint English village and filled with unforgettable and charming characters, you will be transported to a world of love, discovery, and yearning hearts as you enter lives of the Gresham residents.

It is April in Gresham, and Julia and Andrew Phelps have been married for over a year. Three of the children in their blended family attend the Octavia Bartley School of Advanced Learning where Lydia Clark is the schoolmistress. Tall and plain, the thirty-four-year-old teacher is thought to possess a handsome dowry, and is sought by a local man hoping to gain its fortune.

At the same time, Jacob Pitney, an archaeologist uncovering ruins at Anwyl, becomes enamored with the writer Miss Rawlins. In an attempt to win her, he hires Lydia to help him understand Miss Rawlins' novelettes. The bashful archaeologist does indeed come to an understanding, but it is hardly what he anticipated!

When spring arrives in full, the town of Gresham reawakens to life. Soon more than one unlikely romance blooms among her villagers and readers will be delighted as even a bruised and timid heart is made to feel young and renewed.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 yet another delightful visit to Gresham awaits! 5 juillet 2001
Par Beverly - Publié sur Amazon.com
Lydia Clark, thirty-four-year-old spinster school mistress, has resigned herself to finding fulfillment with her parents, job, and relationship with Jesus Christ. Suddenly she seems to be the object of affection by two men, both of whom do not interest her at all. Widowed Mr. Towly, old and unattractive, makes no bones about the fact that he needs a mother for his children and someone to take care of his home. Harold Sanders, crude and uneducated, does everything he can think of to attract Lydia, and, in doing so, finds himself attracted to someone else. When Lydia does finally begin to fall in love, it is with archeologist Jacob, who is desperately in love with novelist Miss Rawlins, and only wants Lydia to help him understand her books. Meanwhile, love is also blossoming with other Gresham residents; Paul Treves has finally gotten over his broken heart from book 2, and finds himself attracted to Mrs. Somerville, mysterious newcomer in Gresham. Widowed Mrs. Meeks finds herself attracted to a neighborly young man, only to realize that she can never marry him because he is an unbeliever. Noelle Somerville, who is frantically trying to run from her past and restore her relationship to God at the same time, has made up her mind never to wed a vicar, but is nevertheless hopelessly attracted to one. Love is even showing itself among the teenage set, as Laurel Phelps receives love poems from Ben Mayhew. Once again, Blackwell has woven together many different stories of the residents of Gresham, uniting them all with the steadying advice and presence of Andrew and Julia Phelps and the unconditional love and free gift of grace from Jesus Christ. Superb addition to this wonderful series!

What a wonderful series! Lawana Blackwell captures real feelings and pens them perfectly. A must read even if you haven't read the other two. I even laughed out loud a few times, along with feeling the character's pain. Can't wait for a fourth to see who and what develops next!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 The Uplifting Stories from Gresham 24 septembre 2001

After reading the first two novels in the Gresham Chronicles series I eagerly awaited and was blessed to find that The Dowry of Miss Lydia Clark was equally as enjoyable. The characters immediately draw you in and you come to find that life just might be a little better if we all lived in Gresham. The reader becomes so engaged in the lives of the quirky characters, that I found myself laughing out loud and then crying with joy for the blessings that eventually always find their way to the tender hearts of the people of Gresham. I am anxious for the next novel as I ponder in my mind what exactly is in store for those people I have come to know as well as my own neighbors!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The best in the series so far! 22 juin 2000

"Finally, a heroine who's not necessarily beautiful!" That may sound like a strange sentiment from a devoted fan of romance, but books like this offer hope to those of us who aren't exactly models. By the way, I'm not classing this as just another romance, because the Gresham Chronicles are so much more than just romance novels. Read this book and I guarantee you'll enjoy more than just the incidental love stories. For example, if the story of Vicar Phelps and the fig bread doesn't make you smile, you're taking life way too seriously! Intrigued? Well, you'd better read the book!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I love this book! It made me laugh and cry... 22 mars 2001

If you start reading this book, I guaratee you won't want to put it down!!! It has a great plot with descriptive characters whom you want to meet in person, and great setting and also the forgiveness of God in the bad things they do. I identify with alot of the character's feelings and wishes. Mrs. Blackwell did a wonderful job of weaving all the characters' lives together in one book. This is one of Mrs. Lawana's best!!! Please keep writing because I enjoy your books soooo much. I hope to read "The Maiden of Mayfair" soon since it promises a wonderful read also! Keep it up Mrs. Lawana!!
