Reading "Drag Racing's Quarter-Mile Warriors" is like reading a book on Olympic athletes. Only instead of talented men and women trained in various sports, the pages are filled with cars as main characters. Boyce has compiled stories and photographs of some of the most famous dragsters of all time (as well as their drivers) and takes a look at where some of them are today. The selections on how drag racing technology evolved over time are full of gearhead jargon, which car lovers can happily sink their teeth into.
While this book would make a great addition to any drag racing library, if you're looking for a history that is more chronological, you'll want to check out Allan Girdler's "American Road Race Specials, 1934-70: Glory Days of Homebuilt Racers" too. In addition to sharing stories about famous cars, Girdler also delves into how the phenomenon of drag racing related to current events and goes even deeper into the people who raced.

The book covers Rails, Funny Cars, Pro Stocks, Gassers, and much more. I would have liked to have seen more on the Jets, and Wheel Standers but then again they had more of a specialty role back then and the dominant groups were those that would show up week in and out through the summer months. We get a good description and account of the cars, drivers then and also how a number of these great machines have been found and restored to former glory. Definitely a book for anyone and everyone with an interest in the origins, feats, and spectacle of drag racing and its unique niche in the quest for speed and competition in a straight line.
