Présentation de l'éditeur

(Better Date than Never series, Book 7)

Career-driven attorney, Jill Parnell, has worked long and hard to become a partner at Corbett, Gray, & Shaw. When the coveted position is given to the boss’s nephew, she does what any intelligent employee would do—attends a colleague’s wedding and schmoozes a high-powered partner at another law firm.

Her potential new boss has only one condition for her, that she demonstrate a personal life that will support a thriving career. Pretending to have a boyfriend is outside Jill’s comfort zone, but she invites the best man to act the part and Ryan is all-too eager to play her significant other. Sparks fly between them, but she reminds herself she’s only driven to date to get back on the partner track.

When Jill discovers Ryan is the lawyer who stole her promotion, her charade threatens to implode. But breaking off their pretend relationship could cost her the job of her dreams. And the more she gets to know Ryan, the more she’s tempted to tame the bad boy, and make him her own.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Buttercup :-) 14 avril 2014

This was actually my first Susan Hatler book and I read it as part of the Lucky 7 boxed set. I read it in one sitting. I found it hilarious that Jill, who has her whole life planned out through goals, is being thrown off when she doesn't get the promotion she was expecting. So, when she is at a wedding and runs into another boss of a firm she has decided she is going to try and apply at, she tries to impress the owner by having a boyfriend. The boss thinks it is good to have a well rounded work life and personal life. She grabs the hot groomsman and asked him to pretend to be her boyfriend for 10 minutes. He really plays it off well calling her buttercup and getting all cozy with her on the dance floor. When Monday rolls around, it is no other than the "pretend boyfriend" from the wedding, Ryan, who has stolen her position. They are quiet the comical pair. He really tries to win her affection over and over again, but she just isn't sure she can get over the fact that he has her job! One she worked to get for 5 years of her life. Will she come around to him? You will have to read and see. One of my favorite parts is even when she is furious with him, he still calls her buttercup. I loved that. If you like short, sweet contemporary romances this is definitely a book for you to check out. You will really be rooting for Jill and Ryan right up until the very end ;-)

This book was a clean read, no vulgarity or sex. This was a great book. It's hard to find these type of books. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, especially the hero. If you're looking for a relaxing book, I would recommend this book. Look forward to reading more books from this author.

The book started out on a good note. It was enjoyable & had some great humor. Here are my favorite quotes from the book:

"I didn't want to get along with him at all. I wanted my promotion. I'd earned it." This was Jill being disgusted at Stan's nephew Ryan stealing her job after Charlie retired.

"Love is an abstract feeling used by romance writers to sell books." I loved the conversation Ryan was having with Jill on love. This line made me laugh out loud.

"PML" meaning of pre-midlife. According to Jill's friend Sarah.

"Sweet dreams, buttercup. I'll be thinking of you. Me too, I typed back, and meant it." Such cute texting between Ryan & Jill

I did enjoy the story at first. However, I felt as it went along the repetition & Jill being so whiney all the time made me start to dislike her. Ryan was always going out of his way to do anything for her. I know her promotion was stolen from her but she blamed Ryan over & over & it annoyed me. I just felt like Jill was being a spoiled brat. I love strong characters & it wasn't until the end that Jill finally grew up a bit.

This is the first book I have read by Susan Hatler. I did give this a low rating but that doesn't mean at all I don't like the writer. I will try to read other books by this author. I do believe the book had good points. I just needed more to give a better rating.

Driven to Date by Susan Hatler

Lawyer Jill Parnell has busted her butt for 5 years to make partner. When Charles the person above her quits to open his own firm with a friend she thinks she is going to get his job and be one step closer to making partner. That's not the way the oookie crumbles. The partners decide to give the job to one of their nephews. Who is coming in from a different firm in a different state. So what is Jill to do now? First off she goes to her friends wedding and there she meets A woman who she highly respects at another firm and has an interesting conversation about future employment and Ryan. The good looking man she has pretend to be her boyfriend. The requirements to work at the other firm is she needs to have a life outside of work. Including a man in her life. When Jill goes back to work, it's to find out that Ryan is the one who took her promotion.

What's a girl to do?

My Opinion: I absolutely loved this book. I adored Ryan's character. Jill had a lot that she needed to learn about life, but her character was great also. It was a very well written book with a great story line and well developed characters. The partners at the firm that Jill worked at were jerks to put it nicely and I think they got what they deserved in the end. I will be reading more of this authors work. I definitely recommend reading. I give it 5 hearts.
