From School Library Journal
Grade 6-8- Matter-of-fact and concise, this book offers substantial and well-documented information for report writers. Along with a historical overview, it examines the contemporary life of the major ethnic groups in this diverse region. Jenson-Elliot describes geographical lifestyles across ethnicities; discusses the impact of Arab and European invasions; delves into the various cultures, religion, and spirituality; and looks at current challenges and possible solutions. Average-quality, black-and-white photographs are dispersed throughout the text. Though Peoples of East Africa (Facts On File, 1997) has a similar scope, libraries would do well to purchase this solid resource. -Ajoke T. I. Kokodoko, Oakland Public Library, CA
