There's around 115 recipes in this book. There's around 230 pages that are double spread with one page featuring a recipe. ingredients lumped in categories, and a few paragraphs on how to assemble the ingredients, and the opposite page taking the recipe and showing a photo of it.

They are separated by breakfast, dessert, snacks, meats, seafoods, rice and soups, etc. No beverages.

Almost every recipe looks mouthwatering or at least worth a try. There are no beverages in the book but that's okay. The price and temptation of the photos make this s worth it.

I think the hardest thing is around ten recipes use exotic ingredients that not everyone can access with ease: bone marrow, pork belly, lamb, Japanese 7 spice mix, exotic chili paste.

Still, the easy to find stuff makes this book worth adding to your collection!

Stephanie Le's newest cookbook is aimed at beginners like myself. The book is written by the creator of the "I Am A Food Blog" which is named as the top cooking blog by Saveur magazine.

There is a brief intro from the author. After that the book is divided into small chapters like breakfast; pasta & rice; meats; seafood; vegetables; soups & stews; sandwiches; snacks; and dessert.

The book has plenty of pictures to accompany the recipes. The directions are easy to read and do. The ingredients are also easy to interpret.

In the breakfast section, there are great easy recipes for carrot cake pancakes; spicy shrimp omelette; peaches & cream French toast; pulled pork pancakes; coddled eggs; quinoa pea cakes; soy milk donuts, and others.

In the pasta & rice section, there are easy recipes for pea & bacon risotto; bone marrow pasta; mixed paella; mushroom orzo; lasagna with Bechamel & Bolognese; home style Asian pasta; seafood pappardelle; sesame noodle salad; scallop fried rice; lemongrass pork & noodles and others.

In the meats section, there are recipes for porchetta; garlic thyme chops; pan roasted chicken thighs; buttermilk fried chicken; sweet & spicy chicken; maple glazed duck; curry chicken pot pie; braised beef shank, and others.

In the seafood section, there are recipes including fish pie; seafood stew; fish tacos; pan roasted halibut; clam boil; grilled prawns; fried oysters; shrimp salad rolls; miso cod & quinoa and others.

In the vegetable section, recipes include for rosemary mushrooms; Dijon mushrooms; corn fritters; cucumber celery salad; oven roasted sprouts; grilled corn; miso eggplant, and others.

In the soups & stews section, recipes are included for miso chicken ramen; mushroom barley; carrot coconut curry; roasted jalapeño chili; crab & cauliflower; salmon doll chowder; ginger chicken noodle; beef & Guinness; tomato egg drop; chicken tortilla; and others.

In the sandwich section, recipes include porchetta & salsa verde; Vietnamese pork sliders; French onion grilled cheese; curried egg said; avocado BLT; Warn Beenham; Haloumi Caprese; and others.

In the snack section, recipes include jalapeño poppers, chicken liver pâté; curry croquettes; summer panzanella; tuna Yaki Oniguri; octopus chips; tofu fries; and others.

Based on Stephanie's "I am a food blog," "Easy Gourmet" features an eclectic range of mashups (carrot cake pancakes with vanilla mascarpone) as well as European and Asian influences (spicy shrimp omelette, tortilla espanola, paella, lemongrass pork and noodles, pork belly, miso eggplant). From beef and Guinness and chicken tortilla soup to fish tacos, lamb and peas, to octopus chips, you'll find sweet and savory ideas from around the globe.

Ingredient lists are short and prep is fairly straightforward and unfussy; however, some of the dishes call for specialty ingredients (particularly fresh seafood) that may not be easy to come by (octopus sashimi, ahi tuna). I loved the unusual flavor profiles of the desserts in particular, including the London Fog tea cake and figs and cheese cheesecake. As a vegetarian, there were several Asian recipes that appealed to me (tofu fries, miso eggplant, baked mac and cheese (I added Italian-seasoned panko on top and am glad I did as the dish needed the extra crunch). Ingredients are given in American and metric measurements, and each recipe has a beautiful full-page photograph.

As other reviewers have mentioned, taste is highly subjective, and very few of the mains here caught my eye (many Latin and Asian meat-based recipes). Many recipes rely heavily on seafood (fish pie, fish tacos, clam boil, fried oysters, octopus chips).

For those who are fairly new to the kitchen, open to new flavor combinations and profiles, and are looking to gain more experience in technique, "Easy Gourmet" would be a great choice; however, if you already have a large cookbook collection, it's likely that you already have many similar recipes in other cookbooks.

Stephanie's book is wonderful to its last detail -- from the practical (like someone mentioned, it's a paperback but lies flat -- genius) to the technical (easy-to-follow recipes, even with otherwise intimidating techniques) to the artistic (drop-dead stunning photography and wonderfully whimsical graphics, designed by Stephanie herself!). Easy Gourmet has everything I'd want from a cookbook. It's informative but down-to-earth, with endearing anecdotes before every recipe. Every recipe is illustrated, leaving nothing to the imagination, and it's so gorgeous that when I read it on the subway home, I had neighbors craning their necks to read it over my shoulder, too. Best of all, it does what every cookbook should -- it leaves me hungry, excited to get in the kitchen, and craving every recipe in its pages. I've already made the risotto (something I've been afraid to try but was coaxed into by her easy instructions!) and it turned out perfectly. Love this book immensely!

Stephanie Le has created a beautiful masterpiece in her new cookbook, Easy Gourmet. My initially impression of the book, as I flipped through it, was its straightforward approach to each recipe and photographs that could make me fat, just looking at them! The layout is clean and easy to read, even though the measurements are listed first, followed by the ingredient. It takes getting used to, but that's a quick adjustment. I enjoyed reading the short paragraph that accompanied each recipe, explaining the story behind the recipe, or her passion for a certain ingredient and how these dishes were born.

There is a nice selection of dishes, including: breakfast, pasta and rice, meats, seafood, vegetables, soups and stews, sandwiches, snacks and dessert. The ingredient lists for a handful of the dishes is very short. For instance, the Pork Belly has 4 ingredients: Kosher salt, sugar, chili garlic sauce (sambal oelek) and pork belly. Grilled Corn: soy sauce, mirin, butter, and corn. Sometimes the best dishes are those that require very little ingredients and little fuss, allowing the main ingredient shine through. I also noticed that recipes lists include very common ingredients that most of us have on hand. That is a bonus and appealing to the home cook.

You'll recognize a lot of these recipes in other cookbooks or on the internet, (sometimes with her own twist,) like chicken liver pate, jalapeno poppers, hot wings, curried egg salad, chicken tortilla soup, egg drop soup, mushroom barley soup, oven roasted sprouts, cucumber salad, rosemary potatoes, grilled shrimp, fish tacos, pulled pork, roasted chicken thighs, tomato basil spaghetti, classic carbonara, baked mac & cheese, and so on. I was hoping for some original recipes, but a lot of it feels like stuff I have seen in so many other places. However, throughout the book, there is a lot of Asian flavor added to her dishes, which will set them apart. I can't wait to try the mint chocolate chip cookie!
