A Personal Note from the Author – Why buy this book and not another one?

As the CEO of a PPC advertising and Internet marketing agency, I‘m often asked by clients not only about ads and marketing, but also about anonymous surfing, how to hide my IP address, how to delete search history and many other questions concerning Internet privacy and security. And, based on my professional experience and what I learned at one of the best technical universities in the world, I’m always happy to give them solid advice.

Some time ago, I started looking for a good e-book about private browsing that I could recommend to my customers. I searched one of the largest Internet shopping sites and read all the books I could find. The first book was very long, full of badly formatted text copied from the Internet, and contained lots of useless filler. The price was $10, but even for free, I would never advise anyone to read it. The second book was very high quality, but it was full of technical terms and obscure details that no ordinary human needs to know. The other books I read were no better, and I understood that none of these books would be helpful for my customers. My clients want essential information about Web anonymity and safety, and they don’t have endless hours to learn it. I felt that there needed to be an e-book that balances high quality and comprehensiveness with simplicity and quick mastery. That’s how this book was born.

I wrote this book to help you be “dressed” and protected on the Web. I hope you’ll read it, and also help me improve it by sending your feedback. I’d be exceedingly grateful. Thank you!

The chapters are broken down into simple "how-tos" like "How to hide your IP address from a web site administrator" or various other tasks. The author offers up detailed tutorials on how to achieve these different tasks in various use cases. The appendix is also fantastic with specific tutorials for clearing cookies and using private browsing modes in different browsers. He also offers up detailed advice for configuring TOR with browsers and email clients.

This book is highly recommended for those that want to learn more about how to control what information they expose while accessing the internet!

"Easy Private Browsing" is one of those rare how-to books that does exactly what it says.
Author Max Wilhard says, "You can go straight to reading the relevant chapter, find the solution, and complete your task in 15 minutes." And you can - I know because I tried it, and if I can, so can you.
Before reading this book, I didn't know anything about "anonymizers" or "password keepers." I got frustrated when my Internet service slowed, without having a clue why. I suspected I should be "cleaning my cache," but I had no real idea what that meant, much less how to do it.
Now I have a good idea of what web security steps I need to take -- and the confidence that I can complete them.
Especially useful for neophytes like me are the step-by-step instructions at the back of the book for each key task. You don't need any special training or lingo to understand them. Just follow along and you will get the job done.
"Easy Private Browsing" is packed with useful information and links. There's a lot to take in, and it can be a little overwhelming if you're just starting to think about web security. My advice is to take it slow. Skim the book a chapter at a time, a day at a time. Think carefully about the dangers revealed and how they might affect you. Determine what you want to work on from that chapter, then re-read those sections carefully. Finally, go to the step-by-step instructions for your system.
As you use the book, you'll also learn a lot about what the web gurus on popular TV shows like "NCIS" and "Criminal Minds" are talking about!
For a very small cost, this book is a great investment for anyone who needs a jump-start into taking better care of online security, whether for personal use or a small business.

This is a good, but elementary book on protecting your privacy and staying anonymous on the internet. The techniques here will help protect you from the average snooper, but they are not guaranteed to work against a skilled hacker -- or law enforcement. Useful information, as far as it goes.

To be honest, I'm not a professional user of PC and the internet in particular as mostly I need internet for job and communication so I use email and social networks constantly. Recently one guy advised me to read this book and I was really surprised that the internet is such a dangerous place for my personal data.
In the book by Max Wilhard there is a chapter about protecting internet from interception and emailing anonymously that was a great help for me as my email is a storage of personal data, logins and passwords from different sites, copies of ebay transaction bills and so on. However it turns out that I am already using safe email service on the HTTPS protocol - gmail that really makes me glad. The author also provides information about creating a safe password for email and social networks that I think is a topical problem for every internet user since everybody's password was hacked at least once.
Max Wilhard is a great writer because the language is simple and the text is rich in explanations of the specific terms and it is not devoid of humour especially I like the metaphor "all-seeing eye".
In conclusion, I would like to tell that I would recommend this book to my friends and relatives because all the explanations are brief and clear and the readers will be able to solve the problems connected with the internet protection in 15 minutes like the author promises.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A simple and informative beginner's guide 6 mars 2013

If a couple years ago someone told me I would be reading this book, I'd have considered that a silly joke. I began surfing the Web in the mid-'90s and know a thing or two about security and anonymity. But after I started teaching computer basics to adult beginners, I've found that the questions my students ask most often concern browsing privacy, history, and user tracking - the very questions addressed in 'Easy Private Browsing'.
For an incorrigible geek like yours truly, it is difficult to restrain oneself from delving into the depths of the subject matter when being asked a simple question. Especially having the students' undivided attention. However, this leads to information overload and, ultimately, waste of time. And while I've always been able to prepare in advance clear explanations of the course material, extracurricular subjects like anonymity and privacy have been left unexplained.
So I embarked on a search for a comprehensive Web safety tutorial for my students, and I think I've found it. I would say that, for people making their first steps on the Web and having concerns about surfing security and privacy, 'Easy Private Browsing' is a blessing. (For their computer teachers, too.)
The book explains the key points of secure and anonymous browsing, lightly touches on the technologies involved and includes step-by-step instructions. The author does a pretty good job compiling technical information and practical advice into an easily understandable and compact form. In fact, for me it's been a rather boring read with many simple things repeated over and over - but as an educator I must say that it accomplishes its goal: to teach people private browsing. I am going to recommend it to my students, and I recommend it to everyone in need of simple but working advice on the subject.
