Lirium's attempts to find Ophelia take him to the last place he wants to be.

Contains mature content and themes.

OPTIONED FOR VIRTUAL REALITY  BY IMMERSIVE ENTERTAINMENT

It is recommended that you start with the first season, but each season is a complete story for that debt collector and can serve as an entry point to the series. There are five planned seasons in the Debt Collector series, the first four each from the perspective of a different debt collector with the fifth season bringing all four together.

En savoir plus sur l'auteur

Susan Kaye Quinn started out writing middle grade stories like Faery Swap, but managed to publish a bunch of other stories first. She is the author of the bestselling young adult science fiction Mindjack Trilogy, as well as her grown-up SF serial, The Debt Collector. Susan's steampunk romance, The Dharian Affairs trilogy, is her excuse to dress up in corsets and fight with swords. Only now is she getting around to publishing one of her middle grade stories... and hoping her children will forgive her for waiting so long.

Susan grew up in California, got lots of engineering degrees (B.S. Aerospace Engineering, M.S. Mechanical Engineering, Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering), and worked everywhere from NASA to NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research). She designed aircraft engines, studied global warming, and held elected office (as a school board member). Now that she writes novels, her business card says "Author and Rocket Scientist," but she mostly sits around in her pajamas in awe that she gets paid to make stuff up.

All her engineering skills do, however, come in handy when dreaming up dangerous mind powers, future dystopian worlds, and slightly plausible steampunk inventions. For her stories, of course. Just ignore that stuff in the basement.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as much as she can handle. You can find her at susankayequinn.com

This series must be read in order. The first book is Delirium (Debt Collector 1). The second book is Agony (Debt Collector 2). This is the third book.

Lirium finally made a connection with someone who he feels he can rely on. His mentor Ophelia... Only to have her kidnapped out of his apartment while he was out getting them ice cream! Candy does not seem to care about the thugs who attacked him or that Ophelia is missing... So it is up to Lirium not only to keep doing his job but to rescue Ophelia also. If he doesn't do it no one will! Will he find her alive? Will he be able to rescue them both once he does find her? Or will he not be able to find her at all?

This book ramped up the thrills and chills way more than the last two! I find myself more and more addicted with every installment and can't wait to start the next one Broken (Debt Collector 4)! As the web of deceit and subterfuge gets deeper and wider I find myself more and more invested in finding out what happens next!

***This series is suitable for adult readers

Like I said in my review for part 1 this is a different type of story. Not just in the story being told, but also in the way it is being told. The first ‘season’ of this serial is complete, but there is expected to be several more according to the authors site. I think I might be in this for the long haul too. The story is compelling and quite frankly cheap. I just bought the next three parts in a combined down load and it was only $2.99. They are perfect reads for in between larger reads, or when you need something to break up a slog of genre reading. Also if you have a long wait at a doctor’s office and need something you can read in an hour or so, this could easily fill the bill.

The story has a futuristic/dystopian/sci-fi feel to it, but doesn’t bog down on technical info, so I think it could appeal to readers wanting to stick their toes into the sci-fi genre. The pace moves quickly and each serial ends with a cliffhanger that compels you to download the next installment right away. This is an interesting world Ms. Quinn has created and I hope you give this a shot.

Agony starts off two weeks after the first one left off and we get to learn more about the business of being a collector and see how things can go wrong. We also meet some new collectors in this story and see more examples of how dangerous and even deadly a job this can be.

Ecstacy picks up right where Agony leaves off and we get to see and learn about the sick children that Lirium is introduced to in books one. We also meet Madam A as we get to the bottom of what happen to Ophelia. Also got an introduction to the seedier side of collecting.

Still searching for the beautiful woman who was kidnapped Lirium (the Debt Collector's name) seeks out a madam who supplied him with prostitutes until she had betrayed his trust. Through this madam he finds out who kidnapped the woman and where she is being held. His attempt to rescue her will eventually force himself and the woman into a dire situation. This episode of Debt Collector seems to include more suspense, and a cliff-hanger at the end. Still well written and holds the readers interest all the way through.

Love that this is a series, but each installment seems shorter than the last. Just as you are getting pulled into the story, it stops and leaves you hanging. As much as you would think this would cause a lower rating, I just can't do it. This is amazingly written, with a variety of characters and although short - you have emotional ties to characters.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley.

Good pace, nice twists, easy to read. Just what you'd expect from this series. Shame they can't all be longer - but hey, you can't have everything. Another great story from Susan Quinn.
