Description de l'ouvrage

18 septembre 2010
TASCHEN's Great Adventure began back in 1980, when eighteen-year-old Benedikt Taschen opened a shop in his native Cologne, Germany, to market his massive comics collection. Within a year he began publishing catalogues promoting his avares, but it wasn't until 1984 that his first art-book breakthrough occurred: he purchased 40,000 remainder copies of a Magritte book printed in English, reselling them for a fraction of their original price. From a young age, Taschen had been interested in art but found that art books were too expensive and hard to obtain, and the success of this daring moue proved that Taschen was not alone in ttiinking that the art-book market should be democratized. Soon he began reprinting books under his own name for budget prices and the next year he published his first original title and the first book in the Basic Art series: Picasso. Before long, high-quality-yet-still-inexpensive hardcover books were added to the lineup and in 1989 the landmark double-jumbo Van Gogh: The Complete Paintings hit bookstores around the world. Starting in the late 1980s, TASCHEN established subsidiaries across the globe and continued to cement its reputation as a publisher of excellent-value books while branching out into new areas such as architecture, design, photography, lifestyle and classics. In 2000, TASCHEN surprised the world by breaking the record for the most expensive book published in the 20th century: copy 1 of Helmut Newton's SUMO, signed by over 80 celebrities featured in it, fetched over $300,000 at a charity auction. A year later TASCHEN launched its cinema collection with Billy Wilder's Some like it Hot. Then, in 2003, TASCHEN tipped the scales with its massive, legendary Muhammad Ali tribute book, GOAT. Twenty-five years after Benedikt Taschen opened his little comics shop, TASCHEN has grown into one of the most successful and unique publishers in the global market, publishing an eclectic variety of books for people of ail fastes and budget ranges, distributed worldwide in over twenty languages. Within the space of the last few years, TASCHEN has opened bookshops in Paris, Los Angeles, New York, London, Brussels, Berlin and Copenhagen with plans to keep expanding to new cities as our Great Adventure continues. For the future of publishing, keep your eye on TASCHEN.

We shall be incredibly thankful for Mr. Fox's initiative. If you are into feet erotica, this book is all you ever wanted. Hope there's another volume by Ed some time in the near future.

Pleasantly surprised. I bought this because I liked the cover photo. The whole "feet" thing...well, decide for yourself. Not for everyone, but what is? This Ed Fox character makes some good creative decisions that set it apart from your typical x-rated fare. I laughed at first! Now I laugh and also think it's nice work.

The included dvd inspired me to comment. It's like an extra feature of Inland Empire.

This was a great book most of the wording is not in English but this book is all about the images. Very good photography by Fox although being a foot man I see that my taste level in feet is definitley different than his so some may not like it. The DVD is an awesome treat though because you get a glimpse of the shoots and I don't know about others but I love seeing behind the scene things. So if your a fan of Fox get it if your a foot fetishist this may be mediorce for you and you might look elsewhere.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Great photography, but the rest depends on your taste 27 août 2013

I researched a little about this book before purchasing it. It was basically what I expected when I got it. Reading through a brief biography of Ed Fox in the first few pages, I came to really appreciate what he did. Talking about women's feet is a taboo. I'm not sure why since its a body part just like any other body part. Each have a different function. But I bet some people secretly do have a thing for women's feet. There are of course different levels liking feet. Some love them because they associate with sexuality or sex. Others love them for the beauty.

Being a person who loves to look at women's feet, it's hard to find photography books on the subject. People rarely approached it. Ed Fox either loves feet or he was just really desperate for money and thought this would be a good gig.

The photography is amazing. I'm not a photographer, but I can see the art in these photos when it comes to angles and lighting. However, his images are of pornographic nature, which isn't a big deal, but it doesn't fit my preferences of what I call great feet photos. Maybe Ed Fox did this to reach a wider audience. But some of the photos are just distracting. Porn is great, I admit to that! Even if its hardcore. But when it comes to feet, I like to see some graceful and elegant women and their feet. Some of the women photographed here are beautiful, but some honestly look like porn stars, drug dealers or prostitutes. This is just my opinion and I'm not trying to condescend.

Additionally, the dildos here are just a little distracting. The question I kept asking when seeing the photos with dildos is WHY?? Ed digresses from the theme of the book and sometimes focuses on dildos. Dildos have a place of their own in pornography, but what do these plastic rubber things have anything to do with feet? I don't know. Maybe that's what people are into when it comes to feet.

What I would have liked is to see some classy ladies. And not necessarily naked. Sometimes not being completely exposed is sexy too. The girls on here were probably more easy going, but I think Fox could have found some classy women who didn't play with dildos, cigarettes and overdone facial make up that seems like it's used for porno shoots.

Again, Ed Fox provides great variety here and there are some truly great photos. But maybe some level of sophistication wouldn't hurt.

I haven't seen the dvd yet, but I think it'll be great. Maybe I'll even order the second volume as well. But you really have to know what kind of foot person you are. If you like feet in the context of dildos, hookers and unclean feet, then this is for you. If you want foot photography in general, then this is great.

However, if you like charming, sophisticated women and their exposed feet, maybe this is not the best choice. I myself do love the photography and the images themselves. But I'm probably not going to look at this book very often. The images here are by no means offensive, but most of them lack class, sorry Mr. Fox. This is a great square one. But maybe time, you can try this without the pornographic props.

None of these women need dildos or need to make obnoxious poses to be sexy.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Nice erotica, maybe a bit specialized... 24 janvier 2013

Nice photography, beatiful models. Most of the photos are very sexy and erotic, focusing on the legs and feet perhaps a bit more than some erotic photographers. For me, it was not distracting rather a nice POV. Some of the photos are somewhat "hardcore", exposing more than needed for the so-called "erotic art" perspective. (What I mean by that is that there are a couple of photographs of wide-open receptacles.) Most models and photos, however, were posed and photographed in a tasteful manner.
