Présentation de l'éditeur

“Either Side of Midnight is a must-read book for all mystery and/or suspense lovers. I rate this book as a ten-star and expect to see it as number one on the best selling list for many, many weeks.” Reviewed by Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite

“Either Side of Midnight is perfect for readers who like books that will screw with your mind. Fans of the Consequences series by Aleatha Romig in particular will love this book. A must read!” Laura Carter, Goodreads librarian.

“Just as I began to feel a sense of familiarity and comfort in the structure of the genre, It completely twisted and led me down a different path”

“This was one of the best books I have read this year. It was well-written, had an excellent, original plot and twists that I did not see coming”

“A supremely well-plotted story, expertly structured to keep you guessing right up to the end”

“At one point in the book I had to re-read the page three times because I couldn't believe what had just happened!”

“Brilliantly written, this had me on edge for ages. Right up until the end I still didn't know for sure how it would all turn out”

“Gripping from the start, it has a good mix of tension, romance and humour and refreshingly, without the need for gratuitous content”

When nineteen-year-old Naomi Stone is snatched from her husband at knifepoint on the night of their wedding and taken to a deserted cemetery, she knows her life is finished. Drugged and disorientated, she loses consciousness as she lies in an open grave with a gun to her head. But the following day, she mysteriously awakes to find herself unharmed and secured to a bed. She's in a beautiful bedroom in a secluded cottage in open countryside. Only one person knows she’s there – the man in the balaclava who’s holding her, feeding her, revealing nothing. Naomi senses the unfolding of a plan. She should be on honeymoon in the Caribbean. Instead, she’s trapped with an emotionless psycho with no hope of escape . . . And his voice is chillingly familiar.
Who is he? What does he want? What's happened to her husband? Where is she? Will anyone find her before it's too late?

A warning. Do not begin this book if you have urgent business on hand. The bathroom will not get decorated. The income tax forms will remain blank. The garden will run to ruin. A great read!

I don't normally read suspense novels. I get too caught up in the stories and have to put my life on hold till I finish the book. That was certainly true with "Either Side of Midnight." It was so bad that I wasn't sleeping well either. I kept waking up and thinking of this book, wondering what was going to happen - who was the real villain - and on and on.

Either side of Midnight is deClare's first novel and it was a doozy! The story is of a young woman (Naomi) who is abducted on her wedding night. She's certain she's going to be abused and killed, but instead wakes up, chained to a bed, in an idyllic country cottage.

What could have turned into an ugly, physically and emotionally abusive story, instead turns into a compelling thriller.

de Clare did a wonderful job creating suspects. With almost every character, I was wondering if this was the person behind the abduction. She also did a nice job with characterization. Naomi was a sympathetic victim and it was nice to see a character portrayed with christian beliefs that was not fanatical, compromising, simplistic,or cynical. Her faith does not play a major role in the story, but it does contribute to Naomi's personality and how she deals with her experience.

There was a lovely twist (totally took me by surprise) and a satisfying ending. The book is well written and there was little that didn't seem plausible.

If I had any complaints, it would be an underdeveloped romantic interest toward the end of the book.

If you like thrillers, this is a good one!(less)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Enjoyable gripping suspense novel 18 septembre 2013

I really enjoyed this book, it was gripping and conveyed suspense without excessive descriptions of violence.

At the beginning I did have some concerns that it may become religious fiction (a genre I am not interested in) with the many references to the girl's cross around her neck. However despite my reservations I continued to read as the writing quality was very good with an exciting plot and I eventually realised the cross was a necessary part of the story and any small references to religion were there for the story's sake. I won't go into the plot as I prefer not to leave any chance of revealing spoilers but suffice to say I loved the fast pace and twists and turns of this book and the characters were great - it was a book I didn't want to put down.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 More of a suspense than a romance... 17 décembre 2013

3.5 stars

It should have been the beginning of her happily ever after...but instead, it is the beginning of a nightmare. The night after her wedding, Naomi is abducted and wakes to find herself in place she doesn't know with a masked man who sounds familiar that she can't place. Bound and terrified,Naomi remembers her time meeting and falling in love with her husband while at the same time trying to figure out where she is and why she is there.

So when I read the synopsis for this book, I was really excited. I love a good romantic suspense book and this one seemed like a great one. Then I started reading, and I was hopelessly lost. I had no idea what was going on, who was who or what to expect next. The story jumps from the past to present and there are a lot of characters to keep straight.

There were parts of this book that I really liked, the suspense keeps you guessing the entire time. Like I said, I had no idea what was going on or what to expect next. Just when I thought maybe I had it figured out, something else would happen.

And the parts I didn't dragged for me in the beginning and took quite a while to get into. Even once I was into it and figured out who was who, if I am honest I started skimming the "past" sections since I didn't like those characters anymore.

My thoughts:

Character development: 3.5
Level of Romance between characters: 2.5 (not a lot of romance in this one)
Passion/Heat level: 2.5(a couple of very PG kissing scenes and that is it)
Angst/Heartbreak: 2.5(can't say much as I don't want to give anything away.)
Cliffhanger?: Not a cliffhanger but definitely left open for another book.

Overall, this was was just ok for me. I loved the suspense of it, it isn't often that I don't figure out who people are before I read it and have a "wtf" moment....but there wasn't really any romance. If you are looking for a good suspense that will keep you guessing, this is a good read. Just give it time to build, it is slow to start.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am a keen reader, and will pick up most books that interest me from the blurb. A lot I tend to put down again to be long forgotten about. NOT this book though. from the word go I was gripped by the characters and story. Then just as I began to feel a sense of familiarity and comfort in the structure of the genre, It twisted and led me down a different path. I personally love stories to have a good conclusion that leaves me satisfied and with out giving anything away the climax was brilliant with just a hint of girl power leaving my internal monologue going "YES"

A must read for the summer. Light enough to lazily enjoy in the sun, but with enough intelligence to keep your brain active. Unpredictable, story with likable characters. A real page turner.

so get a class of wine, set your partner on cooking duty and enjoy.
