Présentation de l'éditeur

Cursed, numb, rejected, scorned, wicked, sinister, dark, name is Tex Campisi and this is my legacy. I killed my father in cold blood and lost my soul right along with him.
I crave war more than peace, and I'm about to take my place in history as the youngest Capo dei Capi in the Cosa Nostra...that is until someone stops me, saves me from myself.

But the only person able to do my best friends sister, Mo Abandonato, and she just ripped my heart out and asked me to hold it in my hands while she put bullets through it.

Im cursed so I did it.
I'm numb so I held it.
I'm wicked so I liked it.
I used the pain Mo caused as a catalyst to turn into my biggest nightmare--the five families greatest enemy. It's my turn to take a stand, knowing full well I'm going to lose my mind to the madness that is the American Mafia. I've always been told Blood is thicker than life. I wish I would have listened. Because regardless of who you love? You will betray. You will kill.
Blood Always Wins.
The only way out is death...yours.

Welcome to the Dark Side of the Family.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best of the Series! Rachel's taking Eagle Elite to a whole new dimension.... 11 août 2014
Par Jennifer ~ Book Starlets - Publié sur
Format:Format Kindle
Oh the tangled webs we weave! Like all the previous books in the Eagle Elite series this book weaves a magical spell of intrigue, violence, heartbreak, love and lust... YES I SAID LUST! Rachel's writing has truly taken on a life of it's own between the pages of Elicit. Mo and Tex have a chemistry that ignites the pages with fire and yet cause you to soak them with tears to put out the flames all at the same time....

Elicit takes the "family" to new levels. When we left off in Entice things were up in the air between Tex and Mo. Tex is literally at the precipice of a life long decision. His blood, even though he denies his birth right, tells the world he is the Capo. Now the question that looms over his head is does he give up the family he's loved and embraced since being abandon by his true blood, or does he deny his birth right and become the dreaded Cppo... He did after all kill the last one!

Nobody can fault Tex for the choices that he has to make in this book, he is literally stuck between a rock and hard place. With the love of his life, breaking his heart the choice you'd think would be easy but he struggles immensely in this book. You will cry for him and for Mo more then once. Their struggle to fight for what's right and what they want pushes and pulls you in so many directions you won't know which is the True North.

There are several players in this book that will shock you. One of them begin Sergio, I found myself in a true love/hate relationship with his character. One minute I love him for his passion and his never ending fight for what he wants and on the other hand hate him for that fight at the same time.

One of my favorite parts of this series is the girls, Mil, Mo and Trace. In previous books we have seen them go from school girls into gun carrying fighting women. At the end of Entice, Trace was wielding a gun and taking down the men just like the rest... Their fire and determination no matter how dangerous never fails to create some tense, and also funny moments. I mean it is a group that includes Mil after all... At times they are a little like the three stooges in the house with the three of them, but when push comes to shove they all have each others backs, no matter what, even if it means death.

I can't say much more but I will leave you with this. This book will SHOCK you, a punch to the gut that will force you to loose your breath, and when you recover she will hit you again. Rachel takes you on the biggest roller coaster ride of emotions in Elict, more so then any other book in the series. Secrets are revealed and things don't always appear as the seem, but in the end you will be left begging for more...

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sometimes 5 Stars aren't enough... 11 août 2014

Rachel Van Dyken is a brilliant mastermind; evil… but brilliant. This isn’t the first time I’ve had this thought, but with Elicit, the fourth book in her Eagle Elite series, this fact is all the more apparent when you stop to think about not only the meticulous planning and calculation that went into the construction of this narrative but also the events leading up to its culmination. The Eagle Elite series has always been firmly entrenched in the established world of the mafia, but Elicit heralds an evolution of this world and its inhabitants, particularly in regards to protagonist, Tex Campisi, who is stepping forward to assume his birthright. Just as she does with its predecessors, Van Dyken begins Elicit by gripping you with a prologue so intense that, by the start of the first chapter, you're already left reeling and wondering how you could possibly survive the rest of the story.

While previous books in the series have centered on the buildup of romantic relationships between members of the Elect and their love interests, Elicit presents the challenge of picking up the pieces of a relationship in tatters. There is a great deal of history between Tex and Mo, and, as a result, their passion and desire for each other is battles with the conflict and turmoil surrounding them. The romantic moments between them may not be plentiful but the depth of their love for each other is such that these moments are both heartbreakingly beautiful and painful at the same time. Their feelings for one another are the one constant in this ever-changing narrative.

In Elicit, there is a lot that happens in a short amount of time, and each new revelation came as a complete and total shock. I don't think I've ever inwardly cursed so much while reading a book. There's a line in the book where Tex makes an observation about a brewing storm, noting, “anticipation is always worse than the actual outcome”. I wanted to shout at my Kindle in agreement because this line perfectly expressed how I felt while reading the narrative up to that point, knowing that the climax was yet to come and being terrified as a result of imagining the worst. The anticipation is agonizing as Rachel Van Dyken teasingly gives you just enough to keep you guessing right up until the event in question unfolds.

I have always found Tex to be the most fascinating member of the Elect, partly because his character is always quick with a snarky comment and partly because of the shroud of mystery surrounding him. Elicit shows a more dangerous and sinister side of Tex that we have only previously glimpsed – a side that revels in war and death, chaos and destruction. Whereas previously, Tex has been the comic relief and the perennial jokester of the group, his carefree attitude serves to mask the darkness inside of him. Of all the men of the Elect, he is perhaps the one who assumes his role most naturally, which is just one of the reasons why he's always felt like an outsider rather than a true member of the family. Reading the narrative through his perspective is particularly enlightening, because he undergoes a significant transformation and his struggle is apparent in his every thought and action.

I was so thoroughly engrossed in Elicit that I could've easily devoured the entire narrative in one sitting. Instead, I forced myself to take several breaks, mostly to preserve my sanity and to mentally prepare myself for the book's climax, which is slowly built up via several tension-filled chapters that left me eager to discover the outcome even as I dreaded it. It’s not often that a book can has had the ability to have me laughing aloud one minute, and then gasping in surprise the next, but Elicit is an intriguing mixture of light and dark, comedy and drama. With Elicit, Rachel Van Dyken successfully ties up loose ends from previous books, while opening up new possibilities for the future of the Elect.

I was fortunate enough to review Elicit before it came out and let me tell you it is a 5 star book!!!

Elicit like all the other Eagle Elite's is just all around mind-blowing. I could use some other more animated words I feel are more appropriate for the subject but I think you get the point. It has all your prized people so don't worry that you'll be missing any of the comedic commentary that we always get with this group.

If you've read from the start you know Mo & Tex, but until you read this book you have no idea what you're in for. This shows a side you haven't seen in the other books. It's so raw, dark and mysterious that you are on the edge for your seat biting your nails, stomach in knots waiting for the next bomb to be dropped intense book. But also has the most amazing devotion, desire, love and unselfishness in it that you're trying not to cry as you're having your heart ripped from your chest.

I really could go on and on about this one but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone it is that good. This just gets better and better with each book and I don't know how I will survive until the next one. I can not get enough of this series and there is nothing out there like it. I've always liked and enjoyed her other series but I am consumed by this one. There are very few books I can say that about and this is one, if not thee one.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I'm so addicted to this series! 11 août 2014

Wow, I can't believe the direction this book took, the darkness, the heavy dark clouds that overshadowed all of the families. But Tex and Mo, oh the crap they had to go through and the complete horror and emotional pain they put each other through.

I loved this book at the same time it was scaring me, I had no idea what was going to happen. Who was gonna die? Who was the enemy? I didn't know! I was terrified for about 30-40% of the book.

Rachel, what are you doing to me? With each book I get more addicted to the Chicago mafia families. They get amazing with each story, I can't wait for the next book!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This might be the best in the series! Rachel does it again!! 11 août 2014

I've been a fan of Rachel's for years and if it's even possible her books are getting better! Elicit is a darker, edgier addition to the series and the writing is awesome. I have been Team Chase since the beginning, but there was something about Tex that was intriguing to me. This is Tex's story. It's sad, harsh, dark, heartbreaking and deep. He's not the funny Tex from the previous books. His intensity is extremely captivating. I felt like I was sitting at the table watching them interact. Tex has some major decisions to make. He has to decide between his family and his "family." He knows what the right thing to do is, but can he do it? Does he have the strength to push away the memories and do what has to be done? Mo is a shell of her self. She's sad and withdrawn and can't stop thinking about Tex even though they are not together. I cried for her. I cried for Tex. I cried a lot while reading this book. Everyone needs a hug. Even Sergio. This book is such an amazing continuation of the series. I think it might be the best one yet! It was more emotional and more explosive! It's just more Mafia! I got worried a few times that something really bad was going to happen and I tried to remember that Rachel wouldn’t do that to me :) Do not miss this new book in the series. All of the Eagle Elite are back in full force and I found myself holding my breath and whispering "Oh No!" a few times.

"Easy," Nixon whispered from next to me. "We don’t want to have to buy a new one."
"A new Sergio or a new table?" I said through clenched teeth.
"One's irreplaceable."
"What? I looked down. "This is an antique?"
Nixon smirked. "I mean Sergio, you jackass."

"What?" I shivered again, cuddling closer to him, my back pressed so tightly against his chest I could feel his heartbeat.
"Nothing," he choked out. "I just hate that I'm that freaking turned on my talks of violence."
"It's the knives. " I swallowed. "Guys like sharp things."
"Guys like big things." Tex ran his hand down my left arm, his fingertips dancing against my skin. "Shiny things too. Ones with dark hair, and bright eyes. Things that have dirty little mouths and kick ass habits toward gory acts of violence."

"I'm sorry, I know you hate me"
"I could never hate you as much as I love you. That type of hate? That depth of hate? Doesn't exist baby, believe me, I search for it every night that you lay next to me and I refuse to touch you. I crave it every minute of every day when I see your beautiful face."

"I think a good old fashioned family dinner is in order."
"Please tell me you're drunk." I rubbed my face with my hands.
"I'll cook." Chase rubbed his hands together.
"Fantastic. What? DO we pat them down at the door?"
"What's a family dinner without a little gunfire?"
