A beautiful, moving read

The story revolves around the Yuu and Masaki. Yuu is a dog trainer working at Masaki's family's mansion in the countryside. The story starts when Masaki returns to the mansion after working abroad and is basically about the relationship that gradually develops between them.
This manga is a completely engaging read. Not a lot happens in terms of plot, but the story has a smooth, flowing pace. The story is serious and is pretty dark at times, since both men are fighting with memories/ difficult experiences from their pasts. However, the story is also about hope and overcoming things. I found this manga completely absorbing and was really moved by it.
The characters are also very well developed- Yuu and Masaki as well as the side characters that appear. The artwork is also absolutely beautiful- the characters and the setting in general.

A very well done mature Yaoi, with depth.

What draws my attention to this one is the lovely cover, the couple in suits posing with their dogs. This is mature Yaoi, with a somber and melancholic tone and reads like a gay romance. Four guys here, each of them a distinct character with his own troubled past or problem. The main romance between Masaki and Yuu has an almost dream like quality to it as it takes place in a manor away from the hustle bustle of the world, surrounded by their three dogs. Masaki is rich and successful and lives openly as a gay man, with past lovers. But behind the confidence is a young man still mourning over the loss of his mother. Yuu on the other hand is an innocent and gentle young man with a horrible past which refused to let him go. He is a tragic figure and you just want him to find happiness. The developing bond and emotions between these two men is convincing and well expressed with touching moments as each help the other to heal. While this couple's ending is predictable, the fate of the secondary couple of Amamiya and his pretty boy secretary Yuuki is not. Yuuki was also Masaki's ex-lover and I find the interaction among these three guys interesting, especially the little confrontation between Masaki and Amamiya. Amamiya is one intriguing man and I would have loved to know more about him. While I would have preferred a more definite ending for Yuuki (a uke we can all easily sympathize with) and Amamiya, the somewhat open ended question at the end may be the better way to handle it.
I enjoy the artwork as her guys are well drawn, handsome or pretty. And of course the 3 dogs including two great danes are an added bonus.
This is a serious Yaoi with depth and emotions and very well done. I am glad to have it in my collection.

Underwhelming

I bought this book on a whim because the cover art is gorgeous, and that about sums up the redeeming qualities of "Endless Comfort." It took me a while to put my finger on exactly what's so disappointing about it, but it's essentially a constellation of failed potential. The setting is unique, but amounts to nothing other than background (its flavor, aesthetics and meaning aren't tapped into at all). The characters I wanted very badly to like--I usually have a thing for older male leads--but are all shadowy and underdeveloped. There are lots of things lurking under surface of each character that are never brought to the fore, essentially hindering all development whatsoever. There are moments that seem like they get there, but all ring shallow. The pseudo-plot twists that should have helped all left a bad taste in my mouth; it starts to fall into genre trap after genre trap. A genuine disappointment.
There are two things, however, that keep it from going on my blacklist. The first as I mentioned already is that the art is great. It's substantial and stylized in a way that makes it a visually unique experience. Also, dogs. The second is the side characters. Although it annoyed me during the course of actually trying to wrap my head around the main couple, the relationship that plays out among the side characters in the meantime shows a lot more promise--definitely the most memorable part of the book.
All in all, this one is a total pass. Maybe on a rainy day if you have absolutely nothing else to read. Maybe.
