Présentation de l'éditeur

Essential Cell Biology provides a readily accessible introduction to the central concepts of cell biology, and its lively, clear writing and exceptional illustrations make it the ideal textbook for a first course in both cell and molecular biology. The text and figures are easy-to-follow, accurate, clear, and engaging for the introductory student. Molecular detail has been kept to a minimum in order to provide the reader with a cohesive conceptual framework for the basic science that underlies our current understanding of all of biology, including the biomedical sciences.

The Fourth Edition has been thoroughly revised, and covers the latest developments in this fast-moving field, yet retains the academic level and length of the previous edition. The book is accompanied by a rich package of online student and instructor resources, including over 130 narrated movies, an expanded and updated Question Bank, and new enhanced assessments for students.

Another Masterpiece Of Molecular Biology 16 janvier 2014
Par Serge Marinkovic MD - Publié sur Amazon.com

Alberts team have written and edited a masterful body of work that is an improvement over the last edition which was superb. Everything is discussed well and without unnecessary jargon. The illustrations help to convey the three dimensions of molecular biology and the question bank with the text available online is again well done. The number 5-8 minute videos are what I rely enjoy learning from as with the third edition. For those physicians who need to keep tabs on molecular biology look no further this will get the job well done for you and you will prosper and enjoy its teachings.

EBook comes with a deal-breaking catch 1 mars 2015
Par Laura - Publié sur Amazon.com

The book was fine, if a little hard to get through.
I'm mostly very upset with this product because of the publisher's awful business practices. Apparently, you can only download the Kindle eBook so many times before it just doesn't let you download it anymore. I am using this textbook for a class I am in, with two days until an exam, and suddenly I can't access my book after I wiped it from my computer and tried to re-download it. I cannot download it on the original computer I had it on, my tablet, my partner's iPad, or my partner's laptop. It's completely gone. There was absolutely no warning about the download limit, and Amazon Kindle support has been been absolutely no help.
I will never buy from this publisher again, if I can help it.

The goal of this book is to present a less humongous version of the famous Alberts text, so that people who don't want to know every little detail can still get some idea of the field. They do a pretty good job but you can tell that this isn't really where they are focusing their attention, and sometimes the details are cut a big too much.

It is a book with pages, mass, and no batteries!!!! 10 novembre 2015

I am currently renting this book from Amazon ( I think) and the experience is as follows:
1. Exceptional readability, for some reason the authors manage to keep your attention better than most texts, especially since it is cell bio we are talking about.
2. Graphics are great and very helpful / clear. Instead of serving an almost purely aesthetic function like many texts, the figures summarize the "big picture" processes or subjects in a clear memorable manner
3. The book is not cheaply made and consists of durable hardback.
4. It's one of the few hard copy textbooks I get to use this semester so the away-from-computer time is much appreciated not to mention the lack of need to charge the book.

1. Heavy- Good or bad thing. For me I couldn't care less as I am just happy to be reading a physical book again (schools are really shifting towards poorly functioning, non-versatile, e-texts).
2. Though not having to do directly with the book content, I did not expect a brand new book to come by any means. However, the vast majority of the book is thoroughly highlighted. Evidently the previous user reads through the tip of a highlighter, of a rainbow of colors whose designation I have yet to determine. Every...single....word is highlighted as you might imagine this took some getting used to as text would shift from neon green to neon yellow to dark blue to pink and on. I'll re-update if they try to charge me for the highlighting massacre.

Good book, helpful supplements. 20 mai 2015

Good book with highlighted "how we know" sections that help apply and explain the biology.
Also includes several critical thinking questions (with answers) in each chapter to help the student learn the material at a deeper level.
