When it comes to ancient Egyptian artifacts, the British Museum holds one of the best collections in the world. When remodeling necessitated removal of many objects from display, the concept of a traveling exhibit was born. The show, which opened in Toledo, OH, in March, will be on display in different locations in the United States until the beginning of January 2004. Over 144 pieces are included, many of which are from the Study Collection, not usually on public view. Russmann (Egyptian collections, Brooklyn Museum of Art) has put together a marvelous exhibition and gathered exceptional scholars to join her in writing on their areas of specialization. The result is this excellent catalog, full of clear illustrations of both delightful tidbits and impressive masterworks. Easy to use and fun to read, this is highly recommended for academic and large public libraries. Mary Morgan Smith, Northland P.L., Pittsburgh
