Présentation de l'éditeur

Espionage and depth charges were not on the agenda for marine archeologist Dr. George Washington when he left the harbor that morning. While searching for a sunken vessel containing a secret shipment of lost Nazi gold, he witnessed a meteor crash to earth. The impact opened a time gate which propelled him back to World War II where he has been taken aboard an American submarine and imprisoned as a spy. Faced with an execution, he reveals to the sub commander he knows the allies have broken the German code Enigma. Dr. Washington comes to the realization he did not travel back in time; the sub traveled to the future and is manned by German impostors. With the knowledge their valuable code has been broken, the Germans head back through the time gate to 1943. George must now journey to the past and stop this rogue submarine from altering the outcome of the war. While trapped in an era and a war he had only experienced from watching the History Channel, Dr. Washington is forced to kill his grandfather in order to stop the enemy operatives. His life and the war suddenly take a turn he never expected.

This is an OUTSTANDING book and I am very surprised at being the first person to give it a review. I suspect, however, that I won't be the last.

"Eternal Patrol" is a tapestry woven with threads of adventure, intrigue, murder, World War II history, science, science fiction, and suspense. And just when I thought I knew the direction in which the story was going - ZIP went the rug from under my feet.

Because of this book, I have a greatly increased respect for submariners and the dangers they face - particularly during times of war. I was invited on board an "Aussie" submarine for a brief tour during the 80's, and Mr. Wallace brought back the sights, sounds and feelings I remember from that visit - minus the "pings" and their aftermath!!

Sometimes, a particular sentence in a book stands out for me. And it may be of significance to me alone. The following is such a sentence: "When you know for sure that you're going to die, there's nothing left to fear."

This books is a "keeper," for certain. And I may well order the paperback edition - just in case a passing meteor knocks out my Kindle.

Story line is good. Reading pace is great. Story wants to pull you into the book and at times you can feel yourself experiencing the characters feelings and pain. In my opinion, worth reading.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Good concept, so/so execution, many spelling & grammar issues 17 janvier 2014

I really enjoyed Wallace's Righteous Series, so when I heard about this book I thought I'd give it a try. I liked the concept, but the book seemed in dire need of a proofreader and/or editor. There were countless instances of spelling and grammar errors throughout the book, jarring enough to be a distraction. I also had a bit of a problem with the protagonist, it seemed like he was WAY too slow to pick up on the situation he was in, based on the clues that were being thrown at the reader.

'Eternal Patrol' is a fast-paced read from beginning to end. The characters, setting and plot work well together to keep interest high as scenes switch from modern times to those of World War II. The story line used slower pacing effectively so readers could 'catch their breath' between the high-action scenes. The ending is the only disappointment for me. I expected a bit more clarity, as there had been throughout, as to who survived and where they were vs. what was going on in the modern world. As a retired editor, I found the book as a whole had been revised fairly thoroughly before publication. The few misused words lent an air of awkwardness and made me wonder why the characters would have misspoken or misthought a concept. Most instances of punctuation were minimally distracting. I rank this right up there with work by Tom Clancy and H.G. Wells. Well worth reading more than once.
