Présentation de l'éditeur

Connor loves teaching. He loves working with kids, he loves feeling like he’s making a difference. And the kids—and parents—seem to love him. Until the afternoon he makes a small error in judgment, and an angry father’s thoughtless comments start the kind of rumor that destroys careers. And lives.

Everything Connor thought he knew about himself and his world is now in doubt. But sometimes help comes from the most unexpected direction.

Just how fast can a life be destroyed with a simple assumption.
I really loved this novel, the characters are very endearing and it tackles a serious matter.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A terrific, powerful, yet gentle and sweet story 30 mai 2014

Everything I Know pulls you in right from the very beginning with a situation that is every teacher's nightmare and which transforms into another kind of nightmare born out of the power of a wrong word, and of a decision made with the best of intentions. But within this impossibly difficult scenario, a spark of kindness and love takes root and slowly grows into something wonderful.
The characters feel real, relatable, they're flawed, but mature. Connor is such an amazing guy. And Wes too. He's more reserved than Connor, who wears his heart on his sleeve, but he's a pretty great guy himself.
One of the things that i love best about this story, is how human it is. As in real life, until faced with a tricky or unfair situation,
it's impossible to know how one might react, how others around us will react, what to expect. I love Connor for his inherent goodness, he's such a generous soul. He's someone i'd like to have as a friend. The story is a roller-coaster of emotion in the best way possible. I highly recommended it!

This is a partial review. Please read my full review on the Smoocher's Voice Blog.

Josh Lanyon grabs the reader’s attention quickly and thoroughly with the novella Everything I Know. Inspired by Robert Fulhum’s book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, this story is charming and realistic. The list at the beginning of the book sets the tone for this tale. The intriguing, realistic characters draw the reader into the plot through the wonderful, and sometimes humorous, dialogue.

Conner Myers loves teaching kindergarten. He loves the students; he is friends with his fellow teachers. He even likes some of the parents, especially the hot Wes Callahan, Lizzy’s father. But when Lizzy is injured on the playground, Conner’s world turns upside down. Without a clear school policy in place and with a very upset little girl on his hands, literally, Conner takes Lizzy to the emergency room at the nearest hospital.

Wes Callahan, Lizzy’s over protective father, is not pleased when he finds out that not only has Lizzy been hurt at the school, but also one of her teachers has driven her to the hospital in his personal car – without permission. To say Callahan is completely freaked out would be an understatement.

In this novella, Josh Lanyon has created a realistic and tension-filled tale. The turmoil in this story, unfortunately, is representative of the real world of education. The prejudices against male teachers, especially male elementary school teachers, are very real, and this story brings this issue front and center. The relationship that develops between Wes and Conner seems unlikely and yet it is sort of perfect.

This is a great story, and Lanyon’s talents once again shine through character development and dialogue. Callahan’s simple admission that he is an ass adds a touch of humor that helps bring realism to romantic aspect of the story. In typical Josh Lanyon style, the characters and plot are presented in an engaging fashion and the reader is left wanting for more.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad "book". Rather, it's an overpriced short story. At a $5 eBook price, 93 pages and a very abrupt ending left me feeling cheated and disappointed, after having enjoyed the story as I was reading it.

While it does end on a positive note, the ending is, again, incredibly abrupt (I had to check twice to make sure there wasn't a problem with my Kindle not loading all the pages or that I hadn't accidentally gotten just the free preview sent to me) and the story is left feeling just plain unfinished. As though the author either submitted just the first third of his/her manuscript, rather than the entire thing.

I do wish I'd noted the page count before purchasing because $5 was a lot to spend on an hour's read.

I love the style, I love the characters, I love the humour. I also like the fact that the love was unconsciously built over years of small & distant interactions.

This said, it feels a bit rushed at the end, or maybe I just wanted more, more more! I liked Con and Wes very much:

- Wes, confident but with dating skills that are a bit rough due to lack of use (since his kindergarten daughter was born), though he had excellent bed skills (obviously no lack of use). This is a Lanyon that should have been longer, or where there should have been no love declaration. "I really like you and want to date you seriously" should have been more adequate.

- Con, the good, serious boy, passionate about his teacher's job, dedicated to his post grad studies, dedicated to his family (aunt and ill mother), well balanced with good friends and a good social life. But unlucky in love so far.

And the sex was very short but HOT. I hope it's not the last time we'll hear from Con and Wes. Hopefully, Josh Lanyon will carry on with the Christmas Codas and there'll be one about them, especially since Wes said his daughter will spend Christmas at her maternal grandma's who lives in another town.

I Liked the kindergarten rules:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody
Wash your hands before you eat.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life-Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.

Josh Lanyon can pack more story into 93 pages that most authors can in 300. This was just my kinda story, a little angst, a little humor and a sweet romance. Nobody does it better than Josh. I am hoping that we get to see a little Christmas coda, as Josh is wont to do, to see how life is going with Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Connor and Wes. Highly recommended.
