2.0 étoiles sur 5 I studied this Ebook and failed my 70-410 20 avril 2014

When i sat in front of the computer for the prometric exam and when the first questions started to appear, i freaked out because i have discovered that i had never heard of some fields of windows 2012. In fact, this ebook does not cover enough material regarding powershell, hyper-V and Active Directory. After failing the exam, i am under the impression that you have to know to do everything on a server core installation through powershell command line. It is feasible. You just need to learn the powershell command lines that match with the roles found in the server manager explained in the book. Except that, the book does not explain enough information about core networking and you must be really strong in IP4 subnetting. At last, read all microsoft papers about Hyper V on top of this Ebook.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Glaring omissions from the obviously unedited text 13 mars 2013

I don't know if this is characteristic of "Microsoft Press" books, but I'm really disappointed at the quality of the book so far. I've run into numerous instances where I'll read about a new feature in Windows 2012 and then the book goes into detail about the Windows 2008 feature and doesn't explain the new Windows 2012 feature.

What's SHOCKING is that they'll literally ask questions in the "Objective Review" about content that isn't in the chapter. Basically they took a book on Windows Server 2008 and it seems multiple people updated and edited it and the people didn't talk to each other. So one section refers to another section that doesn't exist, etc.

The only reason I didn't give this book 1 star is because I'm continuing to go use it as it is an EASY READ---but its value is highly suspect. How can I feel prepared for the exam when the poultry 5 questions per section ALWAYS contain content that ISN'T COVERED in the section? If it's worth questioning me about in the review, shouldn't it be covered in the chapter?

Additionally, while this book has the same title as the "Training Guide" by the same publisher, the two books are laid out completely differently so they aren't a natural fit for each other.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Not for beginners looking to pass exam 1 mai 2013

Took and passed the exam today 4/30/2013. If your an experienced IT Professional looking to up your certification level to include the 2012 track, this book is not for you. It will give you the basic differences between 2008 server products and the 2012 product but at an extremely high level. There is not enough detail to rely on this book to help you pass the exam. This is a 'sectional overview' based on the exam topics. If you are new to the certification world and to IT administration i could see where this book could be helpful to get your feet wet. Having said that, your not going to have enough knowledge to deploy a solid environment with this information. Back to the exam relevance, it was not at all geared toward helping you pass the exam. Technet has gotten a lot better over the years as an additional reference as well as a trancender type product to get you in the right mindset to pass the exam. P.S. Know your powershell!

This is a good book.

It covers the topics of the 70-410 exam. It gives you a good, general overview of the topics. For an already established administrator, it may even fill in some small holes in your knowledge. For newcomers, it might touch a little to lightly on topics and only cause confusion.

As an example -- while studying one objective, it may introduce a more advanced concept. This is due to the nature of the material, and not necessarily the fault of the author. As an example, early on in the book, there are many references to Group Policy, which is the last chapter of the book. Someone not familiar with group policy might get hung up, but someone familiar with group policy might pick up a small bit of information. Someone who has mastered group policy will find it a complete waste.

If you are buying this book to help study for the 70-410 exam, please consider another one. While the content is good, it is a very, very high level and does not give you even half of what you need to know to pass the 70-410 exam. You won't find many topics in the book, such as VPN, RRAS, or advanced Hyper-V features. Since these topics make up a large portion of the exam, you'll be very surprised if you master the information in the book and then attempt to take the exam: you will fail.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Pretty solid book 27 février 2013

I just took the exam yesterday (2/25), and found most of the topics to be very relevant to the test. There were a few question topics that were not covered in the book, but overall this was a good guide. It's not too dry and boring like some of the older MS Press books (I'm looking at you, MCSE 2000 materials), and gets straight to the point throughout. My only issue is that I would have liked more sample questions to go along with the book. I also found some of the chapter questions to be in the wrong place, such as the question topic being covered in the very next section, instead of the one you just finished. Otherwise, it was a worthwhile guide in conjunction with cbt nuggets.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 No comparison to the old Sybex books I used to use.. 7 mai 2013
Par Kevin Saucier - Publié sur Amazon.com

Years ago, I was just getting into IT and started studying for my MCSE using Sybex books. They were great and I was able to bank a bunch of knowledge, which lead to certifications. Flash forward and I've been using that knowledge as a Sys Admin for years. I'm now getting ready to start pursuing new job opportunities and I'm updating my certs. I've got plenty of high level (in the trenches) experience so I got this book just to fill in the gaps of stuff that no working IT admin actually needs to know. For that purpose, this book was just this side of worthless. There were a bunch of questions on the exam that had to do with details that were not covered in the book. Questions about DNS, Hyper-V, and command line tools especially. I did pass the test, but with an 826, which is not what I was going for. As some other reviews have mentioned, this is not a great book and I would suggest you find something else. The problem is that there really isn't much else out there, which makes it difficult. If you're in no hurry, wait until some new books get released.
