Présentation de l'éditeur

Mason and Logan Kade are two brothers who did their own thing. They were rich and expected to attend Samantha's school, Fallen Crest Academy. They chose public school and now she has to live with them. The problem is that she doesn't care at all: about them, about her friends, about her cheating boyfriend, or even about her parent's divorce. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe change is a good thing.

This book contains adult/mature young adult situations.

I started reading without a big expectation, I must say that the main character has a lot going on, so you start reading and after a while you can't stop because you want to find out what's next.
So now I'm looking forward to read what's next in this story that has 2 more books and to see what's the final end of the novel.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Scary, Manipulating and WOW!!! 5 novembre 2012

Wow, this is one of those dark romances where you sit back and rejoice that you didn't go to these characters' school. It is as fascinating to watch as a train wreck with just the same awful outcome; messed up lives. While similar to Beautiful Disaster in messed up relationships, this one has an even harder edge to it with the intimidation, sex/alcohol and manipulation that destroys lives.

Brothers Mason and Logan are the local gods who are gorgeous, rich and their public high school's football stars. They are also a&&holes, man-whores and very scary. Samantha meets them when her mother moves them into her new boyfriend's mansion and Mason and Logan become her future step-brothers. At first they just ignore Samantha, which is fine with her, but then one of them becomes intrigued by her and she becomes powerful by association. Samantha's life has left her numb to the world and she escapes feeling anything by running for hours. Her mother cheated on her father, Sam's boyfriend cheated on her for two years with her best friend, Jessica and her other best friend, Lydia, knew about it the whole time and never told her. Now she lives with the intimidating hell-boys who throw wild parties and have casual sex with every beautiful girl from her private school.

The boys become very protective of Sam after seeing how she handles her cheating boyfriend, old friends and gossip. She just doesn't care about any of it. Mason is the quiet manipulative fighter and Logan is the slightly unstable, smooth talker who demeans others with his words and then his fists. He is a loyal follower of his brother and both are extremely dangerous. Sam finds herself unexplainably attracted to one of them and is put under his spell - literally she can't think on her own when he is around.

There is so much cheating going on in this book that I am amazed that no one got killed. Both Sam's parents and Mason's parents have cheated on each other, all the girls at Sam's school have cheated on their boyfriends there with the hot brothers and Logan's one and only love tried to cheat on him. How any of these kids will ever have a functional marriage or love life is a mystery. EVERYONE is MESSED UP in this book.

So if you like that sort of dark drama, the writing is really good and keeps the pages turning. You just can't help wanting to know what these screwed up kids will do next. There are fist fights, detailed sex, lots of drinking (teen and adult alcoholism) and dysfunction galore. In a lot of ways this reminds me of Molly Owens's book Messed Up which you HAVE to read if you like this dark type of fiction.

Would I/Did I buy it? Yes (.99)
Would I read it again? Maybe
Would I recommend it to friends? Yes

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Innovative and AWESOME! 26 novembre 2012

Don't judge a book by its cover. That was my lesson here. This was on my "Recommended" list from Amazon, since I love YA romances. I thought the cover was okay, and the title was a simplistic. But, I was slightly intrigued by the synopsis, and hell, it was only $.99, so I bought it. I wasn't expecting any depth. Boy, was I wrong!

This story is very edgy. There were times when I wasn't sure if I liked what was happening, but I couldn't put it down. The characters have so much back story and their own individual struggles, that I wondered how the author did such a good job having so much going on without detracting from the romance. This book is not convential. And I use the word "romance" lightly. The characters don't seem to have much sentiment going on between them for a long time. Heck, it takes them like 10 chapters before they even speak to eachother! The romance unfolds slowly, but the lust was always there.

I felt weird about the heavy drinking, the promisuous sex, the criminal activity, and the sex before love going on, but what makes this a great read is that I want to read it all the time, and I think about it when I'm not reading it.

I don't know what the author has planned for the sequel, but so far they've released the first three chapters online for free. If you Google "Fallen Crest Public", you can read the chapters on [...]. But I would just google it, so you get a direct link.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 The first half of this book gets 4 stars... 13 mars 2013

The second half gets negative infinity + infinity. So I rounded it out to 2. Because that's how I do math.

For the first half of this book, I did not come up for air. It was so good! I was drowning in a sea of teenage angst and absolutely loving it. Sam's character hooked me in right away. She felt so damaged, and yeah, it was a bit much considering that the stuff that actually happened to her wasn't THAT bad, but still, I was into it. I loved the way Sam just said exactly what she felt and didn't care about what anyone thought of her. And I admit, I was pretty intrigued by the Kade brothers.. Yes, one was an idiot, one had a major staring problem, and both were dicks, but whatever, I was into it! The tension whenever Sam was in the mansion was great and I couldn't wait to see how the various relationships would develop.

At around the halfway point though, something happens...NOTHING GOOD happens. Not. One. Thing. There's just one ridiculous over-dramatic incident after another after another until all you are left with is just a bunch of stupidass scenes all strung together and then The End. When I finished, I hated Sam and Mason and Logan and Adam and every adult and you know what, just basically every single character in the whole book.

I would still say this was worth the 99 cents I paid for it, just because I really was entertained by the first half. But do yourselves a favor and just stop after Sam hooks up with the guy that she hooks up with. At that point, it's all good right? You got what you came to see. Seriously, just stop after that.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Not one redeeming quality in any of these characters... 7 mars 2014

How this has so many 5 star reviews, I'll never understand. There wasn't ONE likable character which is saying something since all of them are so damaged. We all have our issues, just because something bad happened in your past it doesn't give you the right to treat people like absolute crap. Sam was probably the b**chest and worst heroine I've ever read about, I'm honestly dumbfounded that a reader could like her.

Here are a few things that were extremely comical to me:
1) The way people treated the Kade brothers as if they were royalty was ridiculous. Yes, there are popular groups in high school but this was just comical the way people, even adults, would bow down to them. There was even a line that said "My mom's scared of them, everyone's moms are" "My dad worships them" What? Grown ladies intimated and scared of teenage boys, and grown men worship them?? Give me a break. Same goes with the 'Academy Elite' group.

2) Welcome to a group of characters who all backstab and lie to one another. There weren't two people in this book who were loyal to anyone or anything. Every girl sleeps with anyone who looks at them, doesn't matter if it's their best friend's or cousin's boyfriend. Are there girls who would do this in real life? Sure. But it was so rampant it was unbelievable.

3) I still have no idea who Sam is. This girl changes her emotions so quickly I couldn't keep up. In the span of a minute she would have her concrete wall up and be frozen inside, then someone would look at her and her emotions 'melted', but then she snapped back and became frozen inside. Also, she was a very inconsistent character. We're told she doesn't drink at all, but she gets drunk at almost every party. She doesn't have sex, except she had no problem sleeping with Mason so quickly without it being a big deal. She doesn't care about anyone or her social standing, but she consistently gossips and ask questions about people to Becky, the queen of gossip and most annoying character.

4) There were so many lines that conflicted with one another. For example, "You don't usually talk at all; well you do, but not really." So, wait. Do you think she talks, or not?

5) The parents in this series are terrible. If they weren't having affairs, or abusing their children in some way, they were probably scheming how to get to know the Kade's better.

The only way I can sum up this book is ridiculous and comical, it was that bad. If you are looking a good young adult/teenage series look elsewhere.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 An Unexpected Find! 13 novembre 2012

I stumbled upon this book by pure accident but am so glad I did!

Sam has had the worst time lately. Her boyfriend of 3 years has been caught cheating, her mom left her dad for someone else, she is no longer speaking to her 2 best friends and that is only the beginning! This book takes us on the journey of Sam's life changing junior year at Fallen Crest Academy. And oh what a year it is!! On top of all the turmoil she is going through, there are the boys. First there is Adam. He has been crushing on Sam since 7th grade and is hoping he finally has a chance with her. Then there is Mason. There is something about her soon to be stepbrother that leaves her in a trance. But is she ready for any of the changes that are coming her way?

There is SO much more going on in this book but I do not want to give it all away. This is one of those books you have to read! And seriously for .99 what do you have to lose?!?!

I can not wait to read the next book in the series!
