J'aime vraiment bien la série des enquêtes de Rose Gardner, mais ce volume intermédiaire n'est pas indispensable. Lui préférer les volumes "normaux".

While I really enjoy the series, I think this novella is a huge rip off. Nearly half the book is almost word-for-word from the previous book - it reviews the hospitalization and breakup from Joe's side, literally using the same exact conversation. It's a copy/paste job with a few edits thrown in to show the reader they are experiencing Joe's thought process. It's great to be able to see what was going through his mind, but I was expecting MORE, not a rehash of several scenes from the last book. This feels like a poor attempt to make more money without actually putting in effort to come up with anything new.

Save your money, purchasing this book is not worth it, nor the time spent reading it (it literally only took me about an hour and a half, and I even made a pot of coffee at some point!). Nothing is new so you won't miss anything when continuing the series!

Falling To Pieces is a novella that comes between Thirty and a Half Excuses and Thirty One and a Half Regrets which will be released on January 9, 2014. This deals with both Rose and Joe's state of mind during this time. I read this novella in three segments which was released on Denise Grover Swank's email newsletter over a three month period but it will also be released in January for purchase.

I have said before that I have grown to dislike Joe. And my opinion has not changed. Throughout his life he has allowed his overbearing father to rule his life and now is no exception. I feel Joe is weak. That at some point there had to have been a way to separate himself from his family and their manipulations. Now it seems he is using alcohol to numb his pain. And, even though he can't stand her, Hilary is the only one offering him understanding. What else is Hilary offering and will he take it?

Rose, our wonderful Rose. I have come to love her so much. Yes, I know she is a fictional character, but in my mind, she is part of my family, or my best friend. I feel like I know her so well. Rose is devastated by Joe leaving her. But her sister and friends all rally around her, helping her through it. And she has found a surprising friend in Jonah, the preacher. With a combination of throwing herself back into her landscaping business and the support of her friends, she will survive. And, there is also Mason. She knows she has a lot to sort out before she can think of being in another relationship but Mason is there waiting patiently. Will Rose be able to love again? I simply cannot wait for the next book to come out. If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend it now to get ready for the next book. All I have to say to the author, Denise Grover Swank is, "YOU ROCK!!!"

FTP is a Rose Gardner 'between the novels' novella. There are three installments available to Denise's faithful followers aka the Street Team in this one great book. I had the pleasure of purchasing a real live copy, signed by the one and only Denise.

The Rose Gardner series is one of my all time favorite books. The characters; the plot; the writing. It is one of the many reasons I fell in love with reading again.

In this novella, written in three parts, you get the in between info on what characters were thinking and feeling and doing based upon the plot in Thirty and a Half Excuses.

Sorry to disappoint everyone, but I am still on Team Mason. To quote DGS, "Joe Simmons, a$$-hat charmer." I will never be a fan... and I still wish Violet would grow up. She definitely pushes her own messed up life and problems onto everyone else. Can't she be happy for Rose?? Rose also starts to come to terms with being able to take care of herself, before she can BE with anyone else... I enjoyed this novella because it gave me something to eat to tide me over while I wait for the main course release of Thirty One. I recommend anyone who loves the Rose Series to read this novella as well. Thank you to Denise!!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Heartbreaking but Hopeful 15 juin 2014

Oh my! This was difficult to read. I was already a mess after the end of thirty so I took a break for a minute to compose myself. But coming back into this one brought it all back. I cant help but feel sorry for Joe but at the same time he should have done some things differently and now here we are. I am not happy about a lot of this (so you are probably wondering why I gave it five stars right) but this was inevitable. Rose had never had a relationship before and I love Joe but maybe this is one of those times where this is the loss of the first love but something better comes along. Ok now I am just babbling but I will miss Joe whole heartedly but maybe this was something Rose needed because that ending is so hopeful and I do so love him too. Great addition to the series if not only a bit heartbreaking.

** spoiler alert ** After reading the end of 30 1/2 I was in need of this novella in a BIG way. At the end of 30 1/2 I felt surprised and saddened that Joe didn't fight for Rose. He walked away. I get that he was upset, confused, and cornered by his family. He's a grown man though. He has to cut the cord from his family before it destroys him. I DO feel sorry for him, truly, but his cowardice leaves me itching to whip out Mr. Metal Baseball Bat to knock some sense into his pretty little skull.

If you love someone, you fight to keep them. You take the good with the bad. You make it work. Otherwise it just isn't worth it. Joe is a coward. A big fat rich mamma's boy coward who took the easy way out. Some may argue that he was attempting to protect Rose by caving into his father's demands, but I just don't see it that way. Then again I've never been in love. What do I know?

I'm not bitter. Not at all...

Finally, Mason: You're kind of a creepy stalker, are you aware of that?!

You must read this novella as a bridge between 30 1/2 and 31 1/2. It's all relevant, all kinds of painful, and all kinds of wonderful. You'll be treated to Joe's perspective for the ONLY time the series is ever seen outside of Rose's eyes up to this point. I hated to love this one, but it was necessary. I'm gonna go find a pint of chocolate ice cream now...
