New Cozy Mystery Series 30 septembre 2011
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Vannetta Chapman is a new author to me, and one that I will be looking forward to reading again. She has a fresh voice in this genre. I enjoy reading Amish fiction and I liked the way this story came at things in a different way.

If I were classifying this piece of work I'm not sure that I would classify it as Amish fiction. The main character, Callie, is not Amish nor are several of the other leading characters. There is a very large Amish presence in this novel because it is set in Shipshewana, Indiana which has a large Amish and Mennonite population. I would prefer to classify it as a cozy mystery with an Amish twist.

The plot was fast paced and kept the pages turning. In the end I thought that I knew who had committed the crime and why...but I was wrong. To be wrong about a mystery is the best!

One of the bonuses with this book is that it has discussion questions in the back. It would be a nice read for your book club, especially if you have just finished something very heavy in subject matter. I am looking forward to reading the next two installments in this delightful series.

Awesome Amish Mystery 29 septembre 2011
Par Maureen - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Description: When two women-one Amish, one English-each with different motives, join forces to organize a successful on-line quilt auction, neither expects nor wants a friendship. As different as night and day, Deborah and Callie are uneasy partners who simply want to make the best of a temporary situation. But a murder, a surprising prime suspect, a stubborn detective, and the town's reaction throw the two women together, and they form an unlikely alliance to solve a mystery and catch a killer.

What a great read this book was. I had to keep going in order to find out who the killer was and why! Two completely different worlds collide with Callie, all English, and Deborah, a very Amish woman.

Deborah turns out to be a very calming and good influence on Callie, who arrives in Shipshewana IN to close her Aunt Daisy's estate. Callie has had a hard past few years, and Deborah can feel in her a need to be at peace. She doesn't take "No" for an answer, and Callie agrees to keep Daisy's Quilt Shop open, at least until she can find a buyer?

When the Editor of the paper is found dead, Callie becomes a suspect. Here she will maybe find some friends?

Love the descriptions of the Amish family life, and I can hardly wait for the other two books in this series.

A must read for Amish book lovers and a good mystery to boot!

First of a three book series 14 octobre 2011
Par Gramma Geri - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Callie's aunt dies and she inherits her quilt shop in the Amish community of Shipshewana, Indiana. So she leaves Texas to go to Indiana to sell her aunts shop and pick up her aunt's dog, Max. But when she gets there, Deborah, an Amish woman, befriends her and asked Callie to reopen the shop. A realtor, also, advised her to reopen the shop to bring more buyers to the shop. So Callie reopened the shop until she could get a buyer.

Everyone in Shipshewana is very friendly, except for Mr.Stakehorn, the editor of the local paper. He printed lies about her and her shop in the newspaper. When she confronted him in the coffee shop, she got so irritated with him, she poured her glass of iced tea on his head and left.

Later, she was going to take proof to him that he was wrong when she entered the newspaper office and found him dead in his chair. Things did not look good for her. Others had seen her confrontation at the coffee shop and with him dead and her" finding him" things did not look good for her. Especially, with the overzealous policeman in charge of the case.

I enjoyed reading this book and would like to thank Book Sneeze for my complementary copy to read and review. I was so disappointed at the way it ended. I wanted to know more but then I found out this is the first of three book series. So I guess my questions will be answered in the other books.

Surprisingly Entertaining 28 octobre 2011
Par Books and Chocolate - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I wasn't sure I'd like this genre of fiction but was surprisingly drawn in to the story and the very likeable characters. While it wasn't a nail-biter kind of suspense, it did keep me interested to the end and I was happy to discover that this is the first of a trilogy of books about Callie, Deborah, the Shipshewana community, and simple faith as a way of life. It had a nice combination of mystery, humor, and even a hint of romance thrown in. It was a light read but still engaging and interesting. Even though this is Christian fiction, it wasn't at all preachy.

I live near Shipshewana and the only negative about the story is that the idea of a murder happening is unlikely, and the possibility of an Amish woman joining forces with someone from the "English" community to play detectives is far-fetched. But, this is fiction and was entertaining even if not a likely scenario, and I thought the author did a good job of making it work.

Fans of Amish theme fiction will enjoy this series and those who aren't fans should give it at try. I almost passed this up and if I had, I would have missed out on a good story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.

I received a copy of this book for review by the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.

Falling to Pieces
Vannetta Chapman
A Shipshewana Amish Mystery

When I first saw the cover of this book, and read its description I just had to contact the author for a copy to review! Amish mystery in Shipshewana sounded like such a great story, and a new Amish Fiction writer to spotlight. Vannetta's first novel A Simple Amish Christmas was a bestseller and this series is well on its way to joining it!

Daisy's Quilt Shop is a hub for not only the tourists in Shipshewana during market days, but for the Amish ladies who gather to quilt and fellowship with one another. When Daisy is found deceased out in the garden she loved, Niece Callie inherits the shop. Having no desire or knowhow to run a shop, Callie hopes for a quick sale and to get back to her so called life in TX. She soon realizes that nothing is beckoning her back to TX and to sell her aunts shop may be easier if the shop reopens. Along with new found Amish friend Deborah, Callie reopens the store and makes some changes and upgrades by putting some of the Amish quilts on ebay for a higher selling price, much to the chagrin of the Amish Bishop.

Local newspaper editor Mr. Stakehorn slanders Callie and her attempts to help sell the Amish quilts making for an uprising in the small community. Callie doesn't take it standing down, insults Mr. Stakehorn and threatens to get back at him. Later that night Mr. Stakehorn is found dead.... Of course Callie is a prime suspect!!

Along with her Amish friends, new newspaper editor Trent, and the officers of the local police force, Callie seeks to find out the mystery behind Mr. Stakehorn's death and the recent burglaries.

I loved the combination of the quilt shop, Amish and a good mystery. I have been to Shipshewana during market days when the town swells to 30,000 people and it was so fun to be brought back there to the small town setting and the friendships that developed between the English and Amish. Despite difference in living style, clothing, religion, Callie and her Amish friends came together with a mission in mind, and that helped to grow their relationship with each other, and within themselves. Deborah's influence on Callie was a blessing to her working through some past issues that needed resolved.

So excited that this was just the first in a 3 part series! Excited to join Callie back in Shipshewana for the next book A Perfect Square.
