Descriptions du produit

First reissue on CD in the world! a much more wistful, almost Harry Nilsson-like feeling, and this permeates most of the cuts. This album also finds Rhodes experimenting with other instruments, such as violin on Warm Self Sacrafice, one of the album's standouts.

the best lp never heard 25 janvier 2003
Par richard saulino - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
appropriately titled, is emitt at his best. the warmth of these songs are as good as it gets. it holds up even after 30 years. the best tracks (not that they arn't all good) are blue horizon, only lovers decide, nights are lonely, bad man, & farewell to paradise. a very talented man. i hope in the future he will record again. if you have a chance to buy all of his work, do it, you won't regret it.

An extremely obscure album from a musical genius 18 février 2003
Par Phyllis C. Levine - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Farewell To Paradise, released in 1973, was the work of a rapidly maturing Emitt Rhodes that reflected his growing frustration with the dealings of his record company and critics who would dismiss him as simply a Beatles copyist. Fans of his self-titled album, full of Beatlesque melodies and harmonies, will find this album to be quite a departure from his earlier (solo and Merry-Go-Round) works. Some reviewers have referred to this album as being weak for that reason. On the other hand, I take the unpopular view that FTP was his best. Yes, the Beatlesque harmonies and melodies have, for the most part, disappeared here. Emitt experimented with different musical textures and darker lyrical themes, and his vocals are soulful and warmer than ever. Many of the tracks are R&B and jazz influenced. Stronger tracks here include the rocker "Warm Self Sacrifice" the introspective "Blue Horizon" and the title track, with lyrics reflecting the artist's turmoil over his recording career at the time. And "Only Lovers Decide" is probably the most beautiful song he ever recorded. As with previous albums, this one was recorded at home, with Emitt writing, arranging, playing all the instruments and doing all the vocals. A superior album from an extremely underrated artist.

Incomparable 31 août 2004
Par c diddy - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
While it's true that he never duplicated the consistency of his 1970 masterpiece "Emitt Rhodes" (being sued by your own record comapny while you're working on your new album will have that effect!), Farewell to Paradise contains some of the most beautiful songs Emitt Rhodes ever recorded. The title track which ends the album is as near perfection as you'll find in pop/rock - gorgeous guitar hook, soaring verse & chorus, perfect middle 8, with his as-usual stunning bass & percussion. There are a number of tracks on this record which fall far below the standard he set with his best work - some are downright maudlin - but Warm Self Sacrifice, Blue Horizon, Trust Once More, and Only Lovers Decide, along with the title track, make this an essential album. Do the world a favor - pass the word about the incomparable Emitt Rhodes: his songwriting, sweet & soulful singing, masterful musicianship, and amazing production make him as rare in the world of recorded music as a .400 hitter in baseball.

Emitt we miss you!

I Agree with Phyllis 20 août 2006

I also think this is Emmit's best work. His debut and MIRROR were great, but as an ALBUM this is record is much more carefully crafted than its predecessors; the song transitions are breathtaking and the production work is clearly his best. Just as emotional as his first two if not more so. I've come to the conclusion that many people think his debut was his best just because so few have ever really heard his next two from start to finish.

Not his best work, but still worth having 2 janvier 2006
Par Ted Trident - Publié sur Amazon.com

I remember in 74 looking through some albums for something new, when lo and behold here was a Emitt Rhodes album I didnt even know existed. It had been quite awhile since I had bought ''MIRROR'and I had missed hearing something new from him.Estatic I hurriedly put it on the turntable and heard the opening piano part for Warm self sacrifice, starting off slowly then going into a rock and roll style and felt it was like his last two albums. But after awhile I realized he had changed his style somewhat and after a few plays

I have to admit I was quite disappointed. However realizing that his record company was trying to squeeze everything out of him at once, its no wonder that this album wasnt as good as it should have been.Badfinger went through the same ordeal which basically destroyed them.Luckily Emitt didnt try to take his life like two of the members of that group did.Never the less, some thirty one years after buying this album there are some songs that I really like and some that are not so good.My two favorite songs are,the georgous ''Only lovers decide'' and the title track''Farewell to paradise''.The other good ones are''Warm self sacrifice'',See no evil'',''Drawn to you'',''Blue horizon''and ''Trust once more''.Im not too crazy about ''Shoot the moon'',''Nights are lonely'',''Bad man'',and ''In desperate need'', so I only give this album three stars.Still I think its worth having just for the good songs.
